The KWASU Library has successfully concluded a Capacity Building Workshop for its professional staff.
Held on 22 September 2025 at the Centre for Distance and E-Learning Seminar Room, the workshop featured two timely themes: “Our Future, Our Hope: The State of Libraries and Librarianship in Nigeria” and “Artificial Intelligence, Data-Driving Library Services and the Ethical Use of AI.”
The sessions, facilitated by Dr. Florence Ajani and Dr. Bilqees Nallah, brought professional staff together to examine the changing landscape of librarianship and the opportunities that emerging technologies present for library services.
When libraries evolve, librarians must evolve with them. This means continuously developing professional knowledge, adapting to the changing information environment, and embracing new approaches to service delivery. Library and Information Professionals must look beyond traditional approaches to librarianship and harness emerging technologies as tools for creating more responsive, innovative and user-centred library services.
As artificial intelligence and data increasingly shape the information landscape, librarians must be prepared to understand these technologies, apply them responsibly and remain at the centre of meaningful information services.
