The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has handed over a newly constructed block of three classrooms to the management of Ndazabo Primary School, Bida, as well as a public toilet facility to the Ndazabo community.

The projects, constructed by the commission, were handed over to the school management and community members by the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, alongside the Niger State Coordinator and the Bida Area Officer on Wednesday.

Speaking during the event, Alhaji Yelwa urged the school authorities and the benefiting community to make judicious use of the facilities, assuring them that more interventions would be provided by the commission.

In his response, the community head of Ndazabo, Sheikh Khalifa Fogun, appreciated N-HYPPADEC's intervention and pledged that the community would safeguard the facilities.

A DELEGATION FROM FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL, GOMBE PAYS “THANK YOU” VISIT TO N-HYPPADEC HEADQUARTERS

The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, has paid a “thank you” visit to the management of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), following the construction of a solar-powered borehole at the hospital.

Leader of the delegation, Abubakar Yerima Ajiya, said the hospital management was surprised by N-HYPPADEC’s swift intervention shortly after a formal request was made.

Mr. Ajiya disclosed that the hospital, which has a capacity of about 400–600 bed spaces, staff quarters, and other office buildings, had been without water supply for months. He added that the facility relied on the unsustainable purchase of water from vendors.

According to him, the intervention by N-HYPPADEC in constructing the borehole has brought significant relief to the hospital. He noted that this prompted the management to send a delegation to formally appreciate the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa (Katukan Yauri).

Receiving the guests on behalf of the Managing Director, the Deputy Director (Finance), Mrs. Ruth Asabe Essien, thanked the delegation for coming all the way to express their appreciation for the intervention.

She assured them that the Commission would continue to provide support in line with its mandate.

She noted that the Commission has continued to enjoy tremendous support from the Gombe State Government and traditional institutions.

N-HYPPADEC CONDUCTS TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT OF LAFIAGI WATERWORKS IN KWARA STATE.

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has conducted another round of assessment tour of the Lafiagi Waterworks in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The recent tour, led by the Director of Operations, Engr. Iliyasu Abdullahi Wara, is part of the Commission’s preparations for a comprehensive overhaul of the water scheme.

While engaging with stakeholders at the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, the Director stated that the primary objective of the assessment was to evaluate the current state of the scheme’s infrastructure, identify technical constraints, and determine the feasibility of deploying a sustainable modular water treatment system to address the perennial water scarcity in Lafiagi and neighbouring communities.

Engr. Wara noted that the collaboration with KETSWA Engineering and Project Management Ltd. (consultant) proposes a transition from a conventional system to a packaged/modular water treatment system. According to him, this approach offers scalability, with plant sizes determined by population projections (mini, large, or mega), and allows for easier expansion as the population grows.

He further revealed that the assessment uncovered that the water scheme is currently in an advanced state of decay, adding that several critical components—including the intake and raw water systems, treatment plant and filtration units, civil works, equipment, power supply, and distribution network—require urgent attention.

Engr. Wara however disclosed that the consultant is expected to finalize the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) before proceeding with the procurement process, to ensure that the project commences within the current fiscal cycle.
