AMINU YUSUF’S DEATH, GREAT LOSS TO NIGER STATE, NATION — NIGER SSG

The Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf (Talban Wushishi).

In a condolence message, Alhaji Usman described the death of Dr. Aminu Yusuf as a great loss to the State and the nation, particularly considering his contributions to public service and national development.

The SSG described the late NPC Chairman as a distinguished public servant who served the country with dedication, commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.

He noted that the deceased's contributions to population administration, demographic planning and other areas of national development would remain part of his enduring legacy.

The SSG on behalf of the Government and people of the State commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, the National Population Commission, as well as his colleagues, friends and associates over the painful loss.

He urged the family to take solace in the good memories and contributions of the deceased, while praying Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

Alhaji Usman prayed Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive the shortcomings of Dr. Aminu Yusuf, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

NIGER TAKES BOLD CLIMATE ACTION, MOVES TO UNLOCK CARBON MARKET OPPORTUNITIES

The Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Niger State Government to implementing effective climate action through strengthened governance, institutional coordination and strategic partnerships.

The SSG stated this today while addressing participants at a Myclimate Stakeholders Engagement Meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Minna.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Dr. Muhammad Muhammad Makusidi, the SSG emphasized the readiness of the Niger State Government to align its climate initiatives with relevant national and international climate standards.

He underscored the importance of securing technical support in critical areas such as carbon accounting, project validation and monitoring systems, stressing that strong technical frameworks would be essential to ensuring the credibility, sustainability and measurable impact of climate projects in the State.

Alhaji Abubakar Usman further called for the exploration of pathways to integrate local communities and farmers into the carbon value chain, noting that their participation would create opportunities for inclusive economic benefits while advancing climate resilience and environmental sustainability.

He also highlighted the need to develop effective implementation structures for the proposed Green Schools Programme initiative, which he said could contribute significantly to promoting environmental awareness and climate-conscious practices among young people.

Speaking on the overview of the engagement, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Abubakar Musa, stressed the importance of the partnership with Myclimate, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening Niger State's climate action agenda.

He reiterated the determination of the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, to provide the necessary support for the successful implementation of climate initiatives that would deliver tangible environmental, social and economic benefits to the people of the State.

Earlier, the Team Lead of Myclimate, Pablo Kalophlian, disclosed that the stakeholders' engagement was a follow-up to the preliminary discussions held between the Myclimate team and the Farmer Governor during his recent visit to Bonn, Germany.

He explained that the engagement was aimed, among other things, at establishing a baseline and developing project documentation, with the target of having two key documents finalized by December 2026.

Pablo emphasized the critical role of stakeholders in securing the required Certificate of No Objection and establishing clear modalities for cost-sharing and co-benefit arrangements to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the proposed climate projects.

In their separate remarks, stakeholders expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative and advancing climate action in Niger State.

The General Manager of the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency (NISEPA), Dr. Abubakar Muhammad, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Jonathan Wasa, reaffirmed the commitment of their respective institutions to providing the necessary support and collaboration for the success of the programme.

In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, appreciated Myclimate and all participating stakeholders for their contributions, emphasizing that the success of the programme would depend on effective collaboration, coordination and shared commitment among all relevant institutions.

He called on stakeholders to sustain the momentum generated by the engagement and work collectively towards achieving the State's climate action objectives.

EID MAULUD: NIGER SSG CALLS FOR REFLECTION ON PROPHET MUHAMMAD'S EXEMPLARY LIFE

The Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has rejoiced with the Muslim Ummah in Niger State and across the world on the occasion of this year’s Eid Maulud celebration, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In his message, Alhaji Usman described the occasion as an important opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the exemplary life, teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), particularly his message of peace, compassion, justice, tolerance and love for humanity.

The SSG urged Muslims to use the celebration to strengthen their faith, promote peaceful coexistence and demonstrate kindness and understanding towards one another, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political differences.

He noted that the teachings of the Holy Prophet (SAW) remain relevant to the challenges confronting society today, stressing that sincerity, honesty, patience, forgiveness and respect for one another are essential ingredients for building a peaceful and prosperous society.

Alhaji Usman also called on the people of the State to continue supporting the administration of Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, in its efforts to transform the State through the implementation of the New Niger Agenda, particularly in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, human capital development, security and economic empowerment.

He further urged the people to continue praying for peace, security, unity and sustainable development in Niger State and Nigeria, while encouraging the Muslim faithful to celebrate responsibly and extend love and support to the less privileged members of the society.

IBB AT 85: NIGER SSG CELEBRATES GEN. BABANGIDA, HAILS HIS ENDURING LEGACY

The Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has felicitated with His Excellency, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR, former Military President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as he celebrates his 85th birthday anniversary.

Alhaji Usman described the milestone as a moment of celebration, reflection and gratitude for a life that has become an important part of Nigeria's contemporary history, noting that General Babangida remains one of the most prominent sons of the State whose name is permanently associated with the country's political and military history.

In a statement issued to mark the occasion, the SSG said the people of Niger State are proud of General Babangida's remarkable journey from Minna to the highest level of national leadership, describing it as a source of inspiration to generations of Nigerlites.

According to him, General Babangida's years of service to Nigeria were characterised by significant national decisions, bold initiatives and far-reaching policies that shaped the political, economic and infrastructural development of the country.

“General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is not only a distinguished son of Niger State; he is also a significant part of Nigeria's history. At 85, his life offers us an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices, responsibilities and challenges that come with serving a complex and diverse nation like Nigeria,” Alhaji Usman stated.

The SSG acknowledged that while General Babangida's years in national leadership remain subjects of historical and public discourse, his place in Nigeria's history is undeniable, stressing that his contributions and experiences provide valuable lessons for the present generation and those coming behind.

He particularly commended the former Military President for remaining a respected elder statesman whose experience and perspective continue to contribute to national conversations on the unity, peace, stability and development of Nigeria.

Alhaji Usman noted that Niger State has continued to produce men and women whose contributions have transcended the boundaries of the State, adding that General Babangida's emergence on the national stage remains one of the notable chapters in the history of the State.

“Today, Niger State joins millions of Nigerians in celebrating one of its most illustrious sons. We celebrate not simply the number of years, but the journey, the experiences, the challenges overcome and the contributions made to our nation.

“Eighty-five years is a remarkable milestone. It is a testament to God's grace and a lifetime that has witnessed and participated in some of the most defining moments of our nation's history,” he said.

The SSG urged younger Nigerians to learn from the General's life of service, particularly his resilience, discipline, courage and capacity to operate at the highest level of national responsibility.

He further called on Nigerlites to continue to honour the State's distinguished sons and daughters whose contributions have brought recognition to Niger State, saying that their stories should be preserved and shared with younger generations as part of the State's rich heritage.

He prayed Almighty Allah to continue to preserve the former Military President, strengthen him and grant him more years in good health and happiness with his family, friends and the people of Nigeria.

NIGER SSG CONDOLES WITH LAWAL TANKO OVER DEMISE OF AUNT

The Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has condoled with the Coordinator, Press Affairs in the Office of the SSG, Alhaji Lawal Tanko, over the death of his aunt, Late Hajiya Halima Yusuf Mairiga.

Late Hajiya Halima Yusuf Mairiga died today in Minna at the age of 95 after a protracted illness.

The deceased was a respected mother and grandmother who lived a long and fulfilled life dedicated to the upbringing and welfare of her family and the community.

Among those she left behind are Hajiya Asabe I. Aliyu, wife of the elder brother of the former Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu (Sardaunan Minna); Hajiya Hajo Abdullahi; Alhaji Audi Ibrahim; Hajiya Jummai Mohammed; Hajiya Sadiya Mohammed; as well as many grandchildren and other members of the family.

In a condolence message, the SSG described the death of Late Hajiya Halima as a painful loss to the family, particularly at a time when her wealth of experience, wisdom and maternal affection would be greatly cherished.

He urged Alhaji Lawal Tanko and the entire family to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived to an advanced age and left behind children, grandchildren and other members of the family who will continue to uphold her legacy.

Alhaji Abubakar Usman prayed Allah to forgive the shortcomings of Late Hajiya Halima Yusuf Mairiga, grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and give the family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

NIGER STATE GOV'T INAUGURATES TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP TO DRIVE ECO GREEN INDUSTRIAL CITY PROGRAMME

The Niger State Government has inaugurated a Technical Working Group (TWG) for the establishment of the Niger Eco Green Industrial City (NEGIC) Programme as part of its commitment to promoting a sustainable green economy and driving inclusive socio-economic development across the state.

The inauguration, which took place today at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Minna, was chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Dr. Muhammad Muhammad Makusidi.

Speaking at the inauguration, the SSG reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Niger State Government under the leadership of the Farmer Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, to green economy initiatives capable of unlocking the vast economic potential of the state.

He noted that Niger State is richly endowed with enormous natural resources, including vast arable land suitable for agriculture, abundant forest resources, renewable energy potential, solid minerals and water resources, which provide a strong foundation for the successful implementation of the Niger Eco Green Industrial City Programme.

The SSG described the initiative as a strategic intervention that aligns with the New Niger Agenda of sustainable development, environmental protection, economic diversification and job creation. He thereafter declared the Technical Working Group officially inaugurated.

The Technical Working Group is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government and comprises representatives of Eco Green Investments Nigeria Limited and key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including the Ministries of Justice, Finance, Investment, Environment, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Agriculture and Food Security, Lands and Survey, Rural Development, Homeland Security and Water Resources, as well as the Niger State Chamber of Commerce and the Niger State Planning Commission.

In his contribution, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Isah Sidi Rijau, stressed the need for the programme to extend its impact to the remotest and hard-to-reach communities across the state to improve the livelihoods of the people. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Farmer Governor to green economy initiatives that promote sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and rural development.

The Commissioner explained that the inclusive implementation of the programme would ensure that every community benefits from the economic opportunities associated with the project.

Earlier, the Programme Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eco Green Investments Nigeria Limited, Mr. Allan Martin, presented an overview of the Niger Eco Green Industrial City Programme. He disclosed that work has commenced on the NEGIC Master Plan, with completion scheduled for 27th August, 2026.

According to him, the programme is designed to provide a structured and proactive implementation framework supported by a comprehensive programme strategy, a living risk register and a realistic implementation schedule. He explained that implementation would commence with forest surveys before progressing to agriculture, agro-processing, renewable energy, mass housing, ecotourism and other integrated development components.

The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretaries from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, who made valuable observations and sought clarifications on the programme's implementation strategies, demonstrating strong stakeholder commitment to the successful delivery of the initiative.

The inauguration of the Technical Working Group marks a significant milestone in Niger State's drive to position itself as a leading hub for green industrial development, environmental sustainability and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.

BAGO FULFILS PROMISE, FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF 5,000-CAPACITY NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP IN PAIKO

The Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has described the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Phase I of the New National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Paiko as the fulfilment of the promise made by the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, to provide a befitting and conducive orientation camp for corps members deployed to the state.

Speaking in his welcome address during the groundbreaking ceremony held in Paiko, the headquarters of Paikoro Local Government Area, the SSG said the project underscores the Governor's unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of Nigerian youths serving their fatherland in Niger State.

Alhaji Abubakar Usman expressed profound appreciation to Governor Bago for approving the construction of the permanent orientation camp, describing it as a landmark intervention that would significantly improve the living and training conditions of corps members.

"This groundbreaking ceremony is a promise kept by the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago. It reflects his administration's dedication to providing decent accommodation and a conducive environment for corps members posted to Niger State. This project is another testament to the Governor's resolve to invest in the future of our young people and promote national unity," the SSG stated.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Niger State Government to the continuous welfare and well-being of corps members, assuring that the state would continue to partner with the NYSC to ensure the success of the scheme.

Giving an overview of the project, the Managing Director of Sammya Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the project, Mr. Steven Adigun, said the permanent orientation camp is designed to accommodate 5,000 corps members in a modern and comfortable environment.

According to him, the project will comprise 41 hostel blocks, each containing 20 rooms, a 3,000-capacity main auditorium/multipurpose hall, an administrative building, sports and recreational facilities, a central parade ground, a clinic, staff quarters, and other supporting infrastructure.

Mr. Adigun thanked the Niger State Government for the confidence reposed in his company, assuring that the project would be executed in strict compliance with the approved specifications and delivered within the stipulated timeframe.

The ceremony also featured goodwill messages from the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu; the representative of the Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Etsu Agaie, His Royal Highness Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development overseeing Sports Development, Dr. Nuhu Garba Ngaski; and other dignitaries, who commended the Niger State Government for embarking on the historic project.

They described the construction of the permanent orientation camp as a significant investment in youth development and national service, noting that it would enhance the quality of orientation programmes and further strengthen the NYSC scheme in Niger State.

Meanwhile, the SSG accompanied the Farmer Governor to the Niger State Police Command Headquarters, Dutsen-Kura, Minna, where Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago commissioned twelve operational vehicles for the Command to bolster security operations and strengthen the ongoing fight against violent crimes across the state.

The Governor reiterated his administration's commitment to supporting security agencies with the necessary logistics and operational tools to safeguard lives and property, in line with the New Niger Agenda.

RED CROSS SOCIETY REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PARTNER NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT

The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society in recognition of the organisation's invaluable humanitarian services to vulnerable communities across the state.

This assurance was given when the Divisional Zonal Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Bida Division, Comrade Abdullahi Yahaya, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG) in Minna recently.

Speaking during the visit, Comrade Yahaya said the purpose of the visit was to seek the support and partnership of the Niger State Government towards the successful hosting of a week-long camp exercise organised by the Society.

He disclosed that the camping exercise would be held in honour of the late Alhaji Muhammadu Egba Enagi, father-in-law of the Farmer Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, whom he described as a committed and distinguished member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

According to him, the camp is intended to celebrate the late philanthropist's selfless humanitarian contributions and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the Red Cross movement.

Comrade Yahaya further revealed that the event would also feature the decoration of the First Lady of Niger State, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, as the Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in the state, in line with the Society's tradition of appointing First Ladies across the federation as State Matrons.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, the Director of Finance and Accounts, Alhaji Abdullahi Hassan Wasagi alongside the Coordinator Administration, SSG's Office, Alhaji Danladi Abubakar Buhari, commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its sustained humanitarian interventions and lifesaving services.

He acknowledged the critical role the Society plays in complementing government efforts in disaster response, health promotion, emergency relief, and community development.

Alhaji Wasagi assured the delegation of the Niger State Government's readiness to partner with the Nigerian Red Cross Society in advancing humanitarian causes and promoting initiatives that positively impact the lives of citizens.

He also conveyed the goodwill of the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, and wished the Society success in the forthcoming camp exercise and other humanitarian programmes.
