NIGERIA'S ILLNESS: The Panacea
Beyond reasonable doubts, it is clear that our dear nation suffers from an arch-problem: executing and making use of the right solution to our problem. Nigeria is at a stage where it is at stake to repeat past mistakes; else, our mind will never stop hoping for a Nigeria that would never come to be. Ever since the transition to civil rule in Nigeria, the nation has witnessed loads of dissapointment from elected leaders. The Nigeria that all hoped for seemed not to come. Evidently, it proved to us that it is not only having a Democratic government that moves us forward but also the question of 'who rules? Is important. Hence, Nigeria has witnessed series of failures and the government not meeting the expectation of the poor masses from 1999 till date.
It is not only Nigeria, Africa as a whole has a problem and until all get the knowing and knowledge of our problem, solution might never stop being a drama.
From the world's view, Africa is the only continent that leadership is in the hand of the aged. Permit me to quote " Africa is young at heart but the people leading are too old to relate with her usefulness" . The above assertion is the real situation our society has found herself. According to research, Africa has the youngest population in the world . Out of the 54 countries, at least 24 of them are ruled by the aged. The Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe is 92 years old, South Africa's Cleric Ramaphosa is 65 years old and of course, the president of our dear nation is 74 years old. These people have been there too long and new things never evolved.
Moreover, Research made it known that Nigeria Median Age is 18.3. This implies that the youth has a larger population than every other age group, but the leadership is in the hand of the aged who have nothing to offer.
The large percentage of those that fill up our law making houses and the Senate are in the age group of those that are not meant to be in the working class. Being a civil servant in Nigeria, when one is 65 years old, he/she is considered to be old and therefore his contributions might not be too relevant any longer, he is therefore given a retirement letter. The reason for the policy by the federal government is to ensure effectiveness in the labour force. Then, we should ask ourselves the question " why should the age group of those who have been considered less effective be the one to rule us?" I believe the federal government made the policy based on the philosophy that an aged person is more experienced and competent. This idea is totally out. Age does not determine the competence of an individual. It is commitment to self growth and capacity building opportunities .
There are thousands of of ideas in the youth, but these remain ideas because the only people who they can tell it to are too old.
Accolades to the Senators who proposed and saw to the success of the implementation the "Not too young" policy. With this new policy , youth will be able to contest and be voted for in any political post ranging from the local level to national level. Young people have skills and capacities that can transform a nation. They bring vibrancy and innovative thinking. This is quite evident In the way they have been? I'll up thriving, entertainment, ICT and e -commerce sectors which are in the major drivers of the economy.
However, the opportunity has been given, it lies in our individuals to choose what we feel is right for our dear nation at the present time.
There is no other way but by supporting and voting in the youth who are ready to take the baton and run better the race of transformation of our dear country. Ariyibi Babatunde Stephen is one of them. He is from Ayedaade LG. Of Osun State who needs your support (in areas) and vote for the post of Member House of Assembly Osun State. It is time to Support the youth, Support ABS and together a new Nigeria can Begin.
