The Chairman House Committee on Health & Nutrition of Kwara State House of Assembly, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi joined stakeholders at the Cancer Awareness Screening Program organized under the auspices of the Kwara State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Office of The First Lady of Kwara State, Ajike People’s Support Centre and Bio Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) on Tuesday 28th October 2025 at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin.

This year's awareness and screening program focused on Liver, Prostate, and Breast Cancer and a lecture on Preventive Strategies for Cancer was delivered by Dr. Anthony Ajiboye, General Surgeon from Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH). Ogbeni Ogunniyi in his goodwill remarks support the call for early detection, elimination of risky lifestyle and behaviour that increases the likelihood of cancer within the population. He reiterates the commitment of the Kwara State 10th Assembly to collaborations and initiatives that prioritize and strengthen our health institutions.

Her Excellency Ambassador Professor Olufolake AbdulRazaq, First Lady of Kwara State and Chairperson of Nigerian Governor's Spouses Forum, delivered a heartwarming keynote address which underscores the State government commitment in the fight against cancer and other public health issues. The cancer awareness event also featured debate and prose presentations tagged First Lady's Cancer Awareness Challenge for Secondary and Tertiary Institutions. The schools that participated in the competition went away with the First Lady's prizes and awards.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam in her welcome address gave a synopsis of the efforts, plans, and investment that the state government is channelling into health and health infrastructure in the bid to enhance the state's capabilities in diagnostic and early detection. Dignitaries and government functionaries in attendance includes: Commissioner for Solid Mineral, Hon Olaitan Buraimoh; Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon Yunus Usman Lade; Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon John Bello; Commissioner for Agriculture & Rural Development, Dr Afeez Abolore; Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Ayodeji.

Others include the Executive Secretary, Kwara State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter; Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu; SSAs and SAs; Balogun Alanamu, Alhaji Usman Atolagbe Abubakar Jos; representatives of WHO and other partners such as BVGH. The pertinent call for action from the event is the need for early detection and sustained education and awareness among the population. Cancer, as a growing public health concern, requires a concerted effort and approach to combat.

Condolence Visit To The Family of Late Pa Chief Joseph Adeniyi Aderibigbe

In the course of the week, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, Member of the Kwara State House of Assembly representing Ojomu Balogun Constituency paid a condolence visit to the family of the first Secretary to The State Government and Head of Service of Kwara State, Pa Chief Joseph Adeniyi Aderibigbe who lived to very old and ripe age of 104 years with a record of outstanding public service. During the condolence visit, Ogbeni Ogunniyi was received by Barr Debo Aderibigbe on behalf of the family.

He commiserates with the Aderibigbes and the entire Erin-Ile Community for the loss of such an illustrious figure, whose pioneering administrative skills and public service were invaluable during the transition from the Regional and Provincial governance structure to a full fledge State. His administrative experience was instrumental in shaping and laying the foundation for the Kwara of today. Ogbeni Ogunniyi honours the memory of the life and time of Pa Aderibigbe. He prays for God's comfort for the family and that the soul of the deceased would be granted eternal rest.

49th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology

The Chairman House Committee on Health and Nutrition of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi delivered a goodwill remark at the opening ceremony of the 49th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology on Tuesday 21st Oct 2025. This conference and AGM of Food Professionals in Nigeria, which was slated to be a week-long conference, kicked off on Tuesday 21st Oct 2025 at De Peace Hotel in Ilorin and it is expected to last until Friday 24th Oct 2025. The conference is a gathering of Food Professionals from across the country drawn from the academia, industry, and research institutions in Nigeria.

Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi while delivering his goodwill remarks, expressed a great depth of appreciation for the strategic role of Food Scientists and Technologists in the overall attainment of sustainable development and of a virile and healthy population that is concomitant with an economy and workforce that is productive. The Chairman House Committee on Health and Nutrition thanked the leadership and members of the Institute for bringing their conference and AGM to Kwara and urged all conference participants and attendees to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the capital city of Ilorin and of Kwara.

The line-up of activities for the first day of the conference includes the keynotes address, goodwill messages, investiture, and conferment of fellowship awards on distinguished members of the Institute, among which includes two outstanding Offa born scholars namely Prof Mutiat Adebanke Balogun, a professor of Microbiology and Food Science and Prof Fausat Lola Kolawole, a professor of Food Science; both of the University of Ilorin. Ogbeni Ogunniyi warmly congratulates these two outstanding professors from Offa for the highest badge of professional honour and recognition accorded them by the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology.

Ogbeni Ogunniyi hearty congratulates the duo of Prof Mutiat Adebanke Balogun and Prof Fausat Lola Kolawole for the attainment of the professional feat which culminated in the conferment of the Fellowship status of their professional body. This he affirms is a spectacular recognition that both scholars should be proud of. In the same vein they have made their respective families, their institution — the University of Ilorin and indeed Offa metropolis very proud.

Kwara flags off Integrated Campaigns on Measles Rubella Vaccine Introduction and Polio Campaign

• Chairman House Committee on Health delivered address during the ceremony, affirms that Kwara prioritizes the health and well-being of all citizens, including children

Kwara State launched an integrated vaccination campaign to prevent Measles Rubella and Polio diseases among vulnerable groups in the state. The exercise which is to last for 10 days begins from Saturday 11th Oct 2025 — expected to cover at least 1.8 m children whose ages range between 9 months and 14 years (for MR vaccine) and zero to 5 years for oral polio vaccine.

The programme organized by the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, in collaboration with UNICEF and WHO, along other development partners, was flag-off by First Lady, Amb Prof Olufolake AbdulRazaq. While speaking at the event, the First Lady said the initiative is not just a policy milestone but a life-saving intervention for children in Kwara. The First Lady has been severally commended for her relentless advocacy on health issues.

The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Prof Nusirat Elelu, expressed the readiness of the agency to deploy 8,657 trained personnel, including health workers, supervisors, and security personnel to carry out the campaign across the state.

The Chairman House Committee on Health, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi said in his address that the symbolic flag off led by Amb Prof Olufolake AbdulRazaq is a demonstration of the First Lady personal commitment to the well-being of Kwarans and of this administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of all citizens and residents of Kwara, including children.

Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi expressed the profound appreciation of the Kwara State 10th House of Assembly, to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for providing the right enabling environment and the required support needed for the success of the campaign in Kwara State.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, was ably represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Abdullahi Taoheed. The development partners and civil society organizations had good representation at the flag off ceremony.

Rt Hon Engr Salihu Yakubu Danladi attended the event organized by Renewal Champions Movement in Moro Local Government where cash palliative and educational materials were distributed. Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi Delivers Keynote Address at NANS Independence Anniversary Summit, Bags Award of Excellence as Outstanding Legislator

The member representing Ojomu-Balogun Constituency of Offa at the Kwara State House of Assembly and Chairman of House Committee on Health & Nutrition, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, has called on Nigerian students to take active roles in the democratic process and nation-building. He made this call while delivering the keynote address at the Independence Anniversary Summit organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) North Central Zone C in Ilorin Kwara State on 1st Oct 2025 at NBA Hall.

Speaking on the theme “The Role of Students in Good Governance,” Ogbeni Ogunniyi, popularly known as Hon Adato, emphasized the crucial roles of students in shaping the nation’s political landscape. He noted that true participation in governance goes beyond expressing opinions on social media, he urged students to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and fully participate in the electoral process. He cautioned against students being used as political tools for thuggery or electoral malpractice. He encouraged that instead their energy and intelligence be channelled into promoting peace, unity, and progress.

The lawmaker commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, for his unwavering commitment to student welfare, citing the recent disbursement of bursaries to Kwara students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria as evident to the governor’s commitments education and youth inclusiveness in governance.

He equally lauded the convener of the summit, Comrade Abdulazeez Abiola Adigun, the Deputy Coordinator of NANS North Central (Zone C), for organizing such an impactful event aimed at educating students about their roles in nation-building and good governance on Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary Day,

In recognition of his exemplary leadership and legislative performance, NANS North Central (Zone C) honoured Ogbeni Ogunniyi with an Award of Excellence as an Outstanding Legislator. The award highlighted his responsiveness to constituents, intellectual sagacity, eloquence, constant public engagement, mentorship efforts, and significant contributions to the student community.

While expressing gratitude for the honour, Hon. Adato thanked the leadership of NANS North Central for finding him worthy of the recognition. He reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation of the good people of Ojomu-Balogun Constituency and pledged to continue mentoring student leaders and young people on leadership and governance. “As a one-time student leader, I understand the importance of grooming the next generation of visionary leaders. I remain committed to guiding our students to take up the baton of leadership and pragmatically lead Nigeria toward a better future,” he stated.

I had the honour of being invited as a Guest Speaker at the annual national conference of the Youth Wing of the Gospel Faith Mission International Ministry (GOFAMINT) Ilorin District to lead a seminar discussion on “The Role of Christian Youth in Governance”. The conference was held on Saturday, 27th September 2025, at the Peace House, along Ilorin - Eiyenkorin Express Way.

My presentation emphasized the need to raise a generation of spiritually minded and socially responsible Christian youth with the vision to strive for excellence in public service and in all sphere of civic engagements as responsible citizens. I was delighted for the opportunity to share my views and perspectives and also inspire the young participants at the conference to take their place in public service, politics, governance, and nation building.
