OGU DIVISIONAL COUNCIL OF CHIEFS CONGRATULATES CHAIRMAN NEMIEBOKA ON ONE YEAR OF IMPACT

The Executive of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo LGA, Chief Vincent Nemieboka, Esq., to congratulate him on his first year in office and commend his people-oriented projects and programmes. The Chairman of the ODCC, Chief Abiebiari Lawrence, Esq., particularly acknowledged the electrification projects in Ikpo-Ama, Opu-Ama and Chuku-Ama/Nemieboka communities as significant interventions improving lives and economic activities. The Chiefs also presented the Chairman with a portrait, a TIDE Newspaper publication documenting his administration’s achievements, and a congratulatory radio jingle.

Responding, Chairman Nemieboka thanked the Chiefs for the honour and urged the traditional institution to provide constructive guidance whenever necessary. He reaffirmed that October will usher in major initiatives, including the groundbreaking of the Amanyanabo of Ogu Palace and the acquisition of buses for the Ogu/Bolo Mass Transport Scheme to help reduce transportation costs. He also challenged traditional and community leaders to actively identify development needs and work with the Council to attract sustainable growth across rural communities, stressing that together, stronger and more developed communities can be built across Ogu/Bolo.

Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Rivers State, has approved the sum of ₦𝟯𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 for eligible 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 (𝗠𝗦𝗰) students and ₦𝟱𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 for eligible 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 (𝗣𝗵𝗗) students under its Postgraduate Bursary Scheme.

The initiative is aimed at providing meaningful financial assistance to postgraduate students and encouraging higher education, research and professional development among the people of Ogu/Bolo.

The Ogu/Bolo LGA Bursary Committee therefore calls on all eligible postgraduate students currently studying in recognised tertiary institutions to obtain their application forms from the Chairman’s Office, Ogu/Bolo Council Secretariat.

All applicants are advised to complete and submit their application forms on or before Wednesday, 23rd September 2026.

OGU/BOLO BACK-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAMME: COMMENDATION FOR AN EDUCATION-FOCUSED ADMINISTRATION

The Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council has once again demonstrated its commitment to the educational development and welfare of children across the Local Government Area with the launch of its Back-to-School Programme.

The initiative, designed to support pupils in Government Primary Schools across Ogu/Bolo, will provide essential educational materials, including school bags, school sandals, books and textbooks, current affairs books, and mathematical sets.

This intervention is commendable, particularly at a time when the cost of education continues to place significant pressure on many families. By providing these basic learning materials, the administration of the Executive Chairman, Chief Hon. Vincent Nemieboka, is helping to ease some of the responsibilities faced by parents and guardians while encouraging pupils to return to school prepared for the new academic session.

Beyond the immediate provision of materials, the programme reflects the importance the Council places on investing in the younger generation. Supporting children at the primary-school level is an investment in their educational foundation and, ultimately, in the future development of Ogu/Bolo.

The programme is scheduled for Saturday, 19th September 2026, at 10:00 AM, at the Alabo Adokiye Couckins J.P. Memorial Town Hall, with Mrs. Boma Nemieboka, Wife of the Executive Chairman, as Special Guest.

Parents and guardians are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by ensuring that their children who are beneficiaries participate in the programme. Their presence will not only enable the pupils to receive the educational materials provided but will also encourage the children to embrace the new academic session with renewed enthusiasm.

The Back-to-School Programme is a welcome intervention, and the Executive Chairman, Chief Hon. Vincent Nemieboka, deserves commendation for prioritising initiatives that directly touch the lives of children and families across Ogu/Bolo.

A child equipped for school today is a community prepared for a better tomorrow.

The Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council has approved the sponsorship of new seamanship certifications for Indigenous youths from the Local Government Area, as well as support for those whose existing certifications have expired and require renewal.

To ensure a transparent and proper process, the administration of 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗸𝗮, 𝗘𝘀𝗾. has inaugurated a committee to collate the names and details of 65 genuine and interested Indigenous youths from Ogu/Bolo who wish to benefit from the initiative.

The committee is responsible for the collation and proper documentation of eligible youths seeking new seamanship certifications and those whose certifications have expired and require renewal.

The Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council has approved the sum of ₦𝟭𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) for each eligible Ogu/Bolo indigene currently studying in a tertiary institution as part of the administration’s commitment to supporting education and the academic development of its people.

To ensure a transparent and credible process, the Council has inaugurated a Bursary Committee with a mandate to promptly carry out the verification of students across various institutions and determine those who meet the stipulated requirements.

The verification process will be based strictly on established criteria, valid identification and other necessary requirements, with no room for politicisation, nepotism, favouritism or any other form of undue influence. The bursary is intended for all students who duly meet the stated eligibility criteria.

The Committee will subsequently release the eligibility requirements and verification dates for students from different institutions to enable prospective beneficiaries to participate accordingly.

The Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗸𝗮, 𝗘𝘀𝗾. today visited the Rivers State Vocational Training Centre, where 64 youths from Ogu/Bolo are currently undergoing training in various vocational skills.

The trainees are being trained in;

(1) 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

(2) 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹/𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀

(3) 𝗧𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴

(4) 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴

(5) 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, among other areas.

During the visit, the Chairman commended the trainees for their commitment and encouraged them to take the training seriously, stressing that acquiring practical skills can provide them with sustainable means of livelihood and open opportunities wherever they find themselves.

He reminded them that upon completion of the programme, they should be able to confidently identify themselves by their professions, whether as plumbers, welders, tilers, electricians, or building technicians.

The trainees expressed their appreciation and enthusiasm for the opportunity provided by the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council to acquire valuable skills. They, however, raised concerns about certain challenges they were experiencing in the course of the training.

In response, the Chairman sought clarification from the management of the training centre and urged them to ensure that the trainees are provided with the necessary materials and support required for effective training. He further assured the trainees that where additional support from the Council is needed, they should communicate with him, emphasising that his priority is to ensure that the youths receive quality and practical training.

The Chairman also made a significant commitment to the trainees, promising that upon graduation, qualified trainees may be engaged in relevant projects being executed by the Local Government Council.

He explained that departments that demonstrate exceptional competence would be given opportunities to participate in Council projects within their areas of specialisation, subject to satisfactory performance and the applicable processes.

The Chairman’s commitments place a clear responsibility on the trainees to demonstrate maximum dedication, discipline and competence throughout their training.

The visit further reaffirmed the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, skills acquisition and creating opportunities for young people to become self-reliant and productive members of society.
