ABIA GUBER 2023: STAND FOR EQUITY, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR - SENATOR WABARA ADVISES IKPEAZU

Following the controversy over which zone produces the next governor of Abia State, former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara has advised Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to stand for equity and ensure that he hands over the governorship position in line with equity as himself is a product of equity.

Senator Wabara, who gave the advice in an interview with journalists in Aba, explained that Ikpeazu is a child of equity and should grow to become a father of equity in the state.

He condemned what he described as conspiracy theories from several sections of the State on where power should shift in 2023.

In his words; “If Ikpeazu’s predecessor didn’t believe in equity, there is no way we, the Ukwa/Ngwa people would have smelt that seat. If Senator Theodore Orji had not pronounced that he was going to hand over to Abia South, I don’t think Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu would have been Governor. The Governor knows my stand. He should follow the footsteps of his predecessor. Ikpeazu should be a child of equity and do the needful. My advice is that he should be in charge of equity and do things right and there would be peace. And I know he won’t be misled. I don’t want to go to the nitty gritty of the conspiracy theories here and there. All these conspiracies will not help; Abia State will outlive all of us. Let him guide us, The Governor has nothing to fear. By next year or 2023, let him grow from child of equity to father of equity.”

On the rumoured defection of the Governor to the APC, Wabara explained that the Governor has met with the members of the PDP Board of Trustees, and assured that he will not defect to any party.

While describing Ikpeazu’s performance as wonderful, the former Senate President stated that more investments have been coming to the State because of the infrastructural turnaround and peace being experienced in the State.

He commended Ikpeazu for his support to the Abia State University, Uturu, stressing that the Governor’s greatest legacy is in the area of education as the bedrock of development.

“The most important legacy Governor Ikpeazu would leave in Abia is in the area of education. The Governor knows that education is the bedrock of development that’s why most of us follow his footsteps; you see Abia has many PhD holders now. We borrowed all that from the Governor. I commended the Governor for supporting ABSUU and giving education its pride of place in the state knowing the fact that education remains the bedrock of development.

Wabara urged the Governor to establish a sea port in Ukwa , stressing that Abia needs a sea port more than it needs an airport.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF ABIA NORTH TOWN HALL MEETING HELD AT UDUMEZE HALL, ELU OHAFIA, OHAFIA LGA ABIA STATE ON WEDNESDAY 30TH JUNE 2021

On the 30th of June 2021, Abia North Stakeholders after our General Town Hall meeting held at Udumeze Town Hall, Elu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Governnment Area of Abia State unanimously issue the following Communiqué:

1. That we are happy with Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his laudable achievements, especially in the area of infrastructural upgrade of Aba the commercial nerve center of the state and the entire state and that we are steadfast in our support for him, which we have demonstrated twice in 2015 and 2019.

2. That, standing on the provisions of the 1999 constitution as amended, we maintain that the Governorship seat has always rotated in Abia state within the three senatorial zones just as it is obtainable in the 36 states of the federation and that the former Governors have always ensured it is adhered to.

3. That we are not privy to any other rotational pattern other than the Senatorial arrangement and will not subscribe to any strange and primordial zoning arrangement that is neither constitutional nor known to law.

4. That as always, we are unshaken on our resolve that as a matter of equity, justice and fairness that power should return to Abia North by 2023, having patiently waited for 16 years in order to allow her sister senatorial zones to take their turn.

5. That Abia state Governorship has never been determined by money, threats, intimidation and the use of the instrumentality of the power and influence of the state Government and her agencies and employees.

6. That we are therefore bemused by a recent communiqué released by purported Ukwa La Ngwa Elders Council, wherein they sought to dishonor an agreement they reached with Ndi Abia North on the 5th of March 2019 that they will support Abia North In 2023 after Dr. Ikpeazu.

[See Appendix A : List of Ukwa Ngwa Elders and Abia North Leaders that entered into this agreement]

7. That It on record that apart from the agreement reached with the powerful delegation sent by Ukwa la Ngwa Elders, that the Crème de la Crème of the traditional Rulers from Ukwa Ngwa extraction also sent a delegation to Abia North Traditiobal Rulers where the same agreement was reached that they will support Abia North in 2023 once Governor Ikpeazu is Supported to complete his tenure.

8. That as Peace loving people and Honourable men, we as well as the Traditional Rulers from Abia North upheld our part of that Agreement and expects our brothers and Elders from Ukwa La Ngwa to be Honourable enough to stand by their word so that the bond will not be broken.

9. That the Politics of grandstanding, confrontation, blackmail, threat and intimidation as vividly expressed in that said “Ukwa La Ngwa leaders” recent press release, is mundane and that the dangers and implication of attempting to violate the natural flow of equity against conscience and peace will not do anyone any good.

10. That we expect the true elders of Ukwa la Ngwa to rise to the occasion because and Igbo adage says that he who is absent when a Co**se is buried usually exhumes it from the leg.

11. That the major Political Parties should queue into this perfect and constitutional zoning pattern by making sure that they cede their Governorship ticket to Candidates from Abia North Extraction only, in order to maintain the smooth rotational pattern.
12. That Sons and Daughters of Abia North extraction should be wary of the political Alignments they enter into going forward, so as not to fall into the bobby traps of those who want to short change the zone.

13. That we shall continue to pursue without respite the agenda of ensuring that the right thing is done and will utilize every peaceful and constitutional avenue to ensure the goal is achieved.
