OGUN SUBEB, OFFICE OF THE AUDITOR GENERAL FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP ON ACCOUNTABILITY

‎The Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has commended members of the Board and management team for their support and cooperation, which he said had contributed significantly to the achievements recorded since he assumed office.
‎
‎Ifede stated this when a team from the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments paid a courtesy visit to the Board at its conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
‎
The Chairman described teamwork as essential to effective leadership, stressing that a good leader must also prepare a capable successor. He commended the Auditor-General and his team for the visit and urged staff to remain dedicated and support the Auditor-General in the discharge of his responsibilities.
‎
He assured the visiting team that the Board remained committed to proper documentation and accountability in all its financial transactions, adding that SUBEB is always ready to provide the necessary records whenever the appropriate authorities conduct an audit.
‎Ifede also advised staff to be contented with what they have, avoid unnecessary accumulation of material possessions and remain focused on their genuine needs and responsibilities.
‎
‎Speaking at the event, the Auditor-General, Mr. Abdul Nojeem Olayinka, commended the management of SUBEB for the transformation and improved appearance of the Board’s offices. He called for continued support for the Board Chairman and Internal Auditor to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively.
‎
‎Olayinka emphasised the importance of proper documentation of financial records, noting that accurate documentation would make the work of the Internal Auditor easier. He also acknowledged the positive impact of the SUBEB Chairman’s leadership on the welfare and development of staff.
‎
He explained that the visit was aimed at familiarising his team with the Board members and management while strengthening cordial relations between the two offices. He stressed the need for continuous interaction, cooperation and an open-door relationship.

‎Speaking on behalf of others Permanent Members, the permanent member I, Barrister. Femi Odufowokan commended the positive changes and improved working environment within the Board, attributing them to the efforts of the current leadership. He welcomed the visiting team and appreciated them for the courtesy visit.

OGUN SUBEB INDUCTS 120 NEW HEADTECHERS.

‎The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has inducted 120 newly appointed headteachers into vacant headship positions across public primary schools in the state, with a charge to provide purposeful leadership and improve teaching and learning outcomes.
‎
‎The one-day induction and capacity-building programme, held at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Secretariat, Kuto, Abeokuta, was organised to equip the newly appointed headteachers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage their schools and drive improved learning outcomes.
‎
‎Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, described headteachers as more than administrators, stressing that they are leaders, mentors and role models whose influence must be felt in the classroom and across the school community.
‎
‎Ifede said the Board’s vision remained clear and non-negotiable: “Every learner in our schools must be able to read well, write and communicate effectively.” He urged the new headteachers to motivate teachers and learners, promote effective teaching and learning and ensure that their leadership brings measurable improvements to their schools.
‎
‎In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said the appointment represent a call to greater responsibility. He charged the headteachers to transform the schools they will be posted and ensure that their impact is clearly felt by teachers, learners and the wider school community.

‎Arigbabu urged them to be creative, lead by example and introduce positive, noticeable changes in their schools.
‎Also speaking, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, described headteachers as the foundation upon which the success of basic education is built. He urged them to provide strong academic and moral foundations for learners upon which secondary education can effectively build.
‎
‎In their goodwill messages, the Permanent Member IV, Ogun SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Akeem Balogun; Chairman, Conference of Education Secretaries of LGEAs, Mr. Muhammad Ali; Ogun State NUT Chairman, Comrade Noah Sewakanu; and representatives of relevant education associations congratulated the inductees and urged them to lead with fairness, humility, discipline and professionalism.

‎ They also charged the new headteachers to serve as role models, maintain proper documentation, promote punctuality, manage school resources responsibly, work closely with stakeholders and create conducive learning environments.

‎Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Femi Fatade, described the appointments as significant, noting that they followed a rigorous screening and interview process designed to identify competent and deserving officers for the vacant headship positions.
‎
‎Fatade said the exercise was a landmark achievement of the Board. He charged the new headteachers to provide purposeful leadership, promote discipline and professionalism, manage resources prudently and support effective teaching and learning.

‎Delivering a lecture titled “Raising the Standards: Improving the Quality of Basic Education Service Delivery,” a former and retired Board Secretary, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, urged the headteachers to continuously upgrade their knowledge, particularly in digital skills and ensure that learners acquire strong reading, writing and communication abilities.

‎Akinleye also stressed the importance of effective school management, proper appearance, conducive school environments and positive relationships with community stakeholders.
‎
‎In their appreciation, the inductees, Mr. Saheed Hassan of Ikenne and Mrs. Rebecca Ayeni of Yewa North, thanked the Ogun State Government and Board for organising the induction and capacity-building programme. OGUN SUBEB, EDUCATION STAKEHOLDERS: ENLIGHTENED ON NATIONAL HOUSING FUND

‎The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and stakeholders in the education sector have been sensitised on the procedures, requirements and benefits of the National Housing Fund (NHF), an initiative of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) aimed at promoting access to affordable housing.
‎
‎The sensitisation meeting was held at the Board’s Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
‎
‎Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of SUBEB, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, described housing as an essential asset for both teaching and non-teaching staff.
‎
‎Represented by the Permanent Member I of the Board, Barrister Femi Odufowokan, the Chairman urged relevant authorities to ensure that the housing loan remained affordable and accessible to members of staff willing to benefit from the scheme.
‎
‎He also advised beneficiaries to ensure prompt repayment of loans obtained under the initiative.
‎
‎In his welcome address, the Director, Administration and Supplies, Mr Femi Fatade, said the meeting was aimed at giving the Board a better understanding of the Federal Mortgage Bank’s housing initiative, noting that the engagement would also enable the Board to explore ways of improving access to affordable housing for its workforce while addressing concerns surrounding the scheme.

‎Also speaking, the Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr Yemi Bamgbose, described the engagement between FMBN and the Board as long overdue, saying the Board was guided by relevant laws and principles, stressing the importance of protecting its image and integrity. He assured that loans obtained by SUBEB workers would be repaid as agreed.

‎Contributing, the Ogun State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Samson Oyelere, urged the Federal Mortgage Bank to encourage teachers to take advantage of the scheme, adding that the Memorandum of Action being signed would help prevent possible litigation in the future.
‎
‎Speaking on the purpose of the engagement, the Head of Loans at FMBN, Dr Adedeji Badejo, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the partnership between the bank and the Board to facilitate seamless disbursement and repayment of housing loans through salary deductions, highlighting some of the requirements for accessing the loan, including the provision of three guarantors.

‎He further stated that eligible NHF contributors could access up to ₦50 million, subject to affordability and other conditions, at a stated interest rate of 6 per cent, with a maximum repayment period of 30 years.
‎
‎He advised staff who intend to resign from service or relocate abroad to notify the relevant authorities in advance to avoid complications in the repayment process.
‎

‎The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has charged contractors handling Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention projects across public primary schools in the state to regularly update their records.
‎
‎The Chairman of SUBEB, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, gave the charge during a strategic meeting with contractors at the Board’s Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
‎
‎Represented by Permanent Member I, Barr. Femi Odufowokan, Ifede said proper record-keeping and regular updating of relevant documents would help expedite the payment process and prevent unnecessary delays.
‎
‎He stressed the need for contractors to follow due process in submitting payment requests, while assuring them that the Board would continue to consider their requests within the applicable guidelines.
‎
‎Also speaking, Permanent Member IV, Rt. Hon. Akeem Balogun, appealed to the contractors to sustain their cordial relationship with the Board by adhering strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the ex*****on of contracts.

‎He described the contractors as key stakeholders in the education sector and urged them to maintain professionalism in the ex*****on of UBEC intervention projects across the state.

‎Also addressing the meeting, Head Procurement Unit, Mr. Segun Ojekunle explained the differences between corporate tax and personal income tax, noting that compliance with both is compulsory for contractors under State and Federal Government regulations.

SUBEB CHAIRMAN HONOURED AS APROCON GRAND AMBASSADOR

‎The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has been honoured with the title of Grand Ambassador of the Association of Professional Counsellors of Nigeria (APROCON), Ogun State Chapter, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and support for professional counselling and basic education.
‎
‎The conferment took place at the SUBEB Board Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where the association commended Ifede’s contributions to the development of education and his advocacy for effective counselling in public schools across the state.
‎
‎Receiving the honour, Ifede stressed the importance of knowledge in the counselling profession, noting that counsellors must be well-informed and continuously improve their knowledge in order to effectively guide and transfer knowledge to others. He also encouraged counsellors to cultivate the habit of reading, particularly storybooks, to broaden their knowledge and enhance their effectiveness.

‎The SUBEB Chairman emphasised the need for stronger moral guidance in public primary schools, particularly in the face of what he described as increasing moral decadence in society. He attributed part of the challenge to the negligence of some parents and guardians in providing adequate moral upbringing for their children.

‎Ifede also appreciated APROCON for its collaborative efforts with the Board, stressing the importance of mutual respect among teachers, parents and members of the community. He said the era of parents insulting or assaulting teachers in public schools should be regarded as a thing of the past.

‎OGUN SUBEB SHOWCASES SCHOOL FARM PRODUCE, EXPANDS AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME

‎The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (OGUN SUBEB) has showcased farm produces harvested by beneficiaries Schools of the 2018 and 2019 Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) while sensitising stakeholders of the 2020 and 2021 beneficiary schools across the state's senatorial districts. The event held at Methodist Primary School, Oke-Yeke, Abeokuta, highlighted agricultural produce from 80 participating public primary schools.

‎Speaking at the exhibition, the Executive Chairman of OGUN SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede said the programme was designed to demonstrate the practical outcomes of agricultural education and encourage learners to develop a lifelong interest in farming.
‎
He explained that the initiative jointly sponsored by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and OGUN SUBEB, bridges classroom learning with practical farming experience. He described AETP as a platform that enables learners to apply agricultural knowledge acquired in the classroom on school farms.

He commended participating schools for the impressive harvests and urged headteachers across the state to sustain farming activities within their school premises to nurture future agricultural entrepreneurs.

‎The SUBEB Boss emphasised that agriculture remains a vital driver of Nigeria's economy and should be embraced as a modern, profitable profession rather than being viewed as an occupation for the poor.

He announced the commencement of sensitisation for the 2020 and 2021 AETP beneficiaries, assuring stakeholders that funds would be released to support another round of school-based agricultural projects.

‎Ifede made the call while receiving the executive members of the Association of Remo Indigenes in Public Service of Ogun State in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a united front, noting that division could hinder progress and development. He also urged members to distinguish themselves through diligence, integrity and exemplary conduct wherever they find themselves.

‎The SUBEB Chairman commended the outgoing President of the association for laying a solid foundation for the incoming executive, describing the transition as a testament to purposeful leadership. ‎‎Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, at the 2026 Teach For Nigeria Graduation Ceremony held at Stella Hall, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mrs. Oke Oluseyi, congratulated the graduating Fellows and School Leaders for their resilience, dedication and positive impact on learners and communities. She noted that the partnership between OGUN SUBEB and TFN which began in 2017, has continued to strengthen basic education in Ogun State through improved teaching and quality innovation.

‎The Board Chairman also expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering support for education, particularly the annual deployment of Teach For Nigeria Fellows to public schools and the approval of monthly stipends, describing his leadership as instrumental to advancing quality education across the state.

She commended the graduating class for successfully completing the rigorous two-year fellowship.

BOARD UNVEILS FRESH MEASURES TO BOOST LITERACY AND STRENGTHEN SCHOOL GOVERNANCE
‎

‎The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every learner in public primary schools across the state can read, write and communicate effectively, describing literacy as the Board's core mission.
‎

‎The resolution was reached at the statutory monthly meeting of Board Members, Headteachers-General and the 20 Education Secretaries of the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), held at the Board's Conference Room, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
‎

‎As part of efforts to improve the safety of learners and teachers in riverine communities, the Board disclosed that it is awaiting approval for the procurement of life jackets for affected schools.
‎

‎The Board also announced that the results of the screening exercise for prospective headteachers will be released soon, while the induction and posting of successful candidates will take place in the coming weeks. Serving and prospective headteachers were encouraged to acquire computer skills to enhance effective school administration.
‎

‎To ensure effective distribution and utilization of learning materials, the Board directed that textbooks be properly tracked to guarantee they reach the learners who need them most.
‎

‎Emphasising the importance of accurate school enrolment data for planning and resource allocation, the Board outlined the school grading structure as follows: Grade A (400 learners and above), Grade B (300–399), Grade C (200–299) and Grade D (1–199). Education Secretaries were directed to submit accurate enrolment figures, while school managers and other stakeholders were urged to intensify enrolment campaigns ahead of the next academic session.
‎

‎The Board reiterated that only the Board has the authority to approve the transfer and posting of teachers and interns. It also directed contractors handling ongoing school projects to return to their sites immediately or risk termination of their contracts.
‎

‎Reviewing the recent statewide monitoring exercise, the Board noted improved learners' performance in 12 Local Government Areas and urged other councils to intensify efforts. It also announced plans to organise training on phonics and handwriting for teachers before the next school resumption.
‎

‎To strengthen school governance, all schools were directed to establish functional School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), maintain proper documentation and open SBMC accounts to enable them to benefit from Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention programmes.
‎
‎The Board further warned that Parents' Clubs must not interfere in school administration and directed that teachers should not be involved in the collection of Parents' Club fees.
‎
Schools were also encouraged to identify donors whose contributions have improved school infrastructure and the learning environment so that the Board can formally appreciate their support.
‎

‎Project officers were directed to submit accurate reports on the condition of school infrastructure, especially schools requiring urgent intervention, while teachers were reminded not to leave their duty posts for union meetings during school hours or before noon.
‎

‎The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the Board to improving learning outcomes, strengthening school governance and ensuring effective service delivery across public primary schools in Ogun State.

NPC KICKS OFF FULL DIGITAL BIRTH AND DEATH REGISTRATION IN OGUN STATE

‎The National Population Commission (NPC), Ogun State Office, has officially commenced the full implementation of the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system, marking the transition from manual to digital issuance of birth death and attestation certificates across the state.
‎
‎The announcement was made during a press briefing held today at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Hall, Leme, Abiola way, Abeokuta, to formally unveil the digital registration system, which became fully operational nationwide on July 1, 2026.

‎ Executive Chairman of Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, called on stakeholders and partner agencies to work closely with the National Population Commission to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative.

‎Addressing journalists and other participants, the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the (NPC) Otunba Dr. Fasuwa Abayomi, said the E-CRVS system replaces the manual registration process with a secure digital platform for registering births and deaths. He noted that the initiative will reduce paperwork and waiting time, improve service delivery, enhance the security and credibility of records, and provide a stronger foundation for Nigeria's national data management system.

‎He added that registration fees have been significantly subsidised to encourage participation, while residents can access the registration platform on their mobile devices or visit accredited registration centres across the state.

‎In his welcome address, the NPC Ogun State Director, Dr. Adenuga Olayinka, described the launch as a major milestone in strengthening civil registration and vital statistics in the state.

He said comprehensive birth and death records would support effective government planning, policy formulation and socio-economic development, while appealing to stakeholders and the media to intensify public sensitization efforts.

‎The event featured a demonstration of the electronic vital registration application by the NPC technical team and an interactive question-and-answer session.
