Proclamation of the 8th Okrika Legislative Assembly

The Executive Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro A. Tobin, DSSRS, JP, today, 4th September 2025, officially inaugurated and proclaimed the 8th Okrika Legislative Assembly.

In his address, the Chairman tasked the Councilors to discharge their duties with diligence, responsibility, and commitment to service to humanity. He was accompanied by the Vice Chairman of Council, principal officers, political leaders from both the PDP and APC, traditional chiefs, and a large crowd of supporters.

The Clerk of the House conducted the Inauguration of the Councilors and presided over the election for the position of Leader of the House. Hon. Hebron Nyanabo, Councillor Representing Ward 4 nominated Hon. Paul G. Abam of Ward 5 as Leader, seconded by Hon. Igbikikuno Friday, Councillor Representing Ward 7. The Clerk put the nomination to vote, and the entire House unanimously elected Hon. Paul Abam as Leader of the House, after which he was inaugurated and administered the oath of office.

The newly sworn-in Leader thereafter conducted the elections for Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the House. At the end of the process, Hon. Hebron Nyanabo, Councillor Representing Ward 4 emerged as Deputy Leader, while Hon. Royal Ateke, Councillor Representing Ward 12 was elected Chief Whip. Both were sworn in immediately by the Leader of the House.

During proceedings, Hon. Royal Ateke, Chief Whip of the House, moved a motion to authorize the Executive Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area to access Council funds pending the presentation of the Supplementary Budget. The motion, seconded by Hon. Otonye Titus, Councilor representing Ward 3, was put to vote and unanimously adopted by the House.

The sitting was thereafter adjourned sine die.
