Sallah: Cole Enjoins Lagos Residents on Proper Waste Disposal, Environmental Cleanliness in the Metropolis.

As Muslims around the globe are set to mark the Eid-el-Adha holidays to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to the dictates of Allah, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI has urged Lagos residents to adopt environmentalally-responsible acts via proper waste disposal, engaging in all-inclusive environmental sanitation during and after the Sallah holidays.

This was disclosed by the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatubosun Cole (Rtd) in a statement made available to newsmen at the Command Headquarters situated at Bolade-Oshodi. According to him, "the Sallah holidays are very significant to the Muslim world, being that the sacrificial act of slaughtering rams commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to Allah thousands of years ago. While Lagos residents and particularly Muslim faithfuls celebrate in Lagos, we keep advocating for the promotion of proper waste disposal, patronage of PSP operators and adoption of environmentally-appealing choices".

Cole also revealed how operatives of the Agency will remain at their operational beats to continually monitor for environmental infractions, effect arrests of environmental defaulters and sensitize relevant stakeholders on the need for increased voluntary compliance to the State's environmental laws.

The retired Major also read the riot act to Lagos residents to desist from displaying wares for sale on setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, road verges, medians, gutter slabs, citing how street trading impedes vehicular and pedestrian movement on our roads.

He finally highlighted the need for transiting Lagos commuters to remain safety-compliant by accessing strategically-erected pedestrian bridges in the stead of crossing highways which results to 'hit and run' cases by speeding motorists, thereby causing grievous bodily harm or death in some cases.

EASTER CELEBRATION: LAGESC ENJOINS RESIDENTS ON ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has enjoined Lagos residents to maintain environmentally-positive practices during and after the Easter celebration.

The advice was contained in a press statement issued by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) on Friday.

According to him, "The resurrection of Jesus Christ is quite significant to the global Christian faith at Easter. Also important that during the celebration, Lagosians maintain best practices for the environment, such as proper waste disposal whilst eschewing acts such as street trading, open defecation and urination, possession of valid waste collection contracts and observing monthly environmental sanitation exercises by the State".

Cole also enjoined traders to desist from displaying wares for sale on the road setbacks, lay-bys, medians, verges, and kerbs, citing how street trading culminates in vehicular and pedestrian gridlock on roads in the metropolis.

The retired Major also read the riot act to owners of buildings to obtain a valid waste collection contract, as defaulters will be made to face the wrath of the law when apprehended for improper waste disposal and failure to subscribe to an approved PSP operator to cart away refuse periodically.

He admonished Lagosians to voluntarily observe the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise by the State, refrain from engaging in acts of open defecation and urination, just as he enjoined transiting Lagos residents to prioritise safety by using strategically-erected pedestrian bridges when crossing major highways in the State.
