The Security of Today Determines the Peace of Tomorrow

•••••If dangerous weapons are allowed to remain in the hands of political thugs during an election, the consequences could linger long after the polls have closed.

As the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election draws nearer, political tension across the state continues to rise. This growing atmosphere of anxiety calls for heightened vigilance and professionalism from all security agencies. Every citizen deserves the freedom to move about peacefully, conduct legitimate business, and participate in the democratic process without fear or intimidation.

The increasing political tension witnessed in recent months should be treated as a matter of urgent public concern. Preventing violence is far more effective than responding to its consequences. It is therefore imperative that proactive security measures are strengthened well before election day.

One of the greatest threats to peaceful elections is the proliferation of dangerous weapons in the hands of political thugs and other criminal elements. If such weapons are not recovered before the election, they may continue to pose a serious threat to public safety long after the electoral process has ended. This is not merely an election issue; it is a broader concern for the security and stability of our communities.

Security is a collective responsibility, but the primary responsibility for enforcing the law rests with the relevant security agencies. Individuals found to be in unlawful possession of dangerous weapons should be investigated in accordance with the law, and where appropriate, such weapons should be recovered. Likewise, anyone who sponsors, finances, or encourages political violence should be thoroughly investigated and, where evidence exists, prosecuted without fear or favour.

An election is a temporary event, but the consequences of insecurity can endure for years. No political ambition should outweigh the peace, safety, and unity of our society. Security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, must continue to discharge their constitutional duties with professionalism, impartiality, and fairness. Public confidence in the electoral process depends on the neutrality and effectiveness of those entrusted with maintaining law and order.

The possession of illegal weapons is contrary to the law and should never be tolerated. Law enforcement agencies must remain vigilant in identifying criminal elements, preventing acts of violence, and ensuring that every individual, regardless of status or political affiliation, is held accountable under the law. No one should be above the law.

Elections should be free, fair, peaceful, and credible. Democracy thrives when citizens are able to vote without fear, coercion, or intimidation. Political thuggery, violence, and other forms of criminality have no place in a democratic society and must be firmly rejected by all stakeholders.

We therefore call on all security agencies in Osun State to intensify their efforts in safeguarding lives and property before, during, and after the 2026 governorship election. A secure electoral environment will not only guarantee credible elections but will also preserve the peace and stability that the people of Osun State deserve.

Finally,we also urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue discharging its constitutional responsibilities with transparency, fairness, and integrity to ensure that the will of the people prevails.

The decisions we make today will shape the peace and security of tomorrow. Let us all work together to protect democracy, uphold the rule of law, and preserve the future of Osun State.

Governor Ademola Adeleke: A Reflection of Chief Obafemi Awolowo's Development Legacy

One of the defining characteristics of purposeful leadership is its ability to positively impact every part of society without discrimination. Across Osun State, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has consistently demonstrated this principle through the equitable distribution of developmental projects across all local government areas.

A remarkable feature of the Governor's campaign tours is that they are not merely political engagements; they are opportunities to commission completed projects that directly improve the lives of the people. From road construction and rehabilitation to the establishment and renovation of schools, the upgrading of healthcare facilities, and other critical infrastructure, every visit reflects a government committed to fulfilling its promises.

It is often said that true leadership is measured not by rhetoric but by results. Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration has continued to demonstrate that governance is about delivering tangible dividends of democracy rather than making empty promises. His accomplishments speak louder than political slogans.

Many political observers have likened Governor Adeleke's development philosophy to the enduring legacy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, one of Nigeria's most celebrated statesmen. Although generations have passed since Awolowo's era, his commitment to people-centred governance remains a benchmark for visionary leadership. His achievements; including free education, free healthcare, the establishment of Africa's first television station (WNTV), massive infrastructure development, industrial growth, civil service reforms, and sound financial management; continue to inspire progressive governance across Nigeria.

Today, Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration reflects many of these ideals by prioritising investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and human capital development. Across local governments such as Odo-Otin, Ifelodun, Boripe, Egbedore, Ayedire, Ola-Oluwa, Iwo, Atakunmosa East, Ife South, and other parts of the state, numerous projects have been commissioned for the benefit of the people. Educational institutions, including the University of Ilesa and Osun State University, have also benefited from significant government interventions. These are visible projects that residents can verify firsthand.

The administration's investment in the education sector, in particular, has attracted widespread attention. Through the construction of new schools, renovation of existing classrooms, and provision of improved learning facilities, the government continues to strengthen the foundation for future generations.

These achievements demonstrate Governor Adeleke's commitment to inclusive governance and his determination to ensure that every community enjoys the dividends of democracy, irrespective of political affiliation or geographical location.

Despite persistent criticism and opposition, the administration has remained focused on governance. Rather than being distracted by political attacks, Governor Adeleke has continued to prioritise service delivery, earning the reputation of a leader who listens to the people and responds to their needs with practical action.

Today, many residents acknowledge the transformation taking place across Osun State. Improved infrastructure, enhanced public services, and strategic investments in key sectors have contributed to a renewed sense of progress and optimism.

AMBO THUGS ON RAMPAGE IN OSOGBO, SHOT ACCORD MEMBERS IN THEIR HOMES

There was pandemonium in Owode-Igbona and Idiseke area of Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday, as political thugs with links to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, invaded the home of known members of Accord and shot at them.

A barely one year old boy and his mother escaped death by whisker as shots fired into their home hit them and were rushed to the Osogbo Central Hospital to save their lives.

Crisis began in the early hour of Wednesday when two rival cult groups clashed, resulting in the death of one Mr. Adelodun Lateef Olalekan, who is reported to belong to the Ayee cult group and considered second-in-command to one YK.

Amidst the confusion that followed, political thugs with links to AMBO led by Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba and Olaitan Danger, used the crisis as a cover to attack Accord members in their homes.

Several Accord members around the area of the incident were targeted by the gun-wielding political thugs, firing shots at the homes and vehicles belonging to the members and supporters of the ruling party in the state.

As at the time of filling this report, no fewer than eight Accord members have sustained life-threatening injuries from bullet wounds and receiving treatment in different hospitals. Several others also sustained injuries are also getting medical attention.

On Thursday, the assailants continued the attacks and even went as far as damaging vehicles of innocent people within the vicinity of the incident.

Both the DSS and the Police are already on the trail of the attackers but report indicated that the backers of the political thugs are pressuring the security agents to look the other way.

As the countdown to the 2026 governorship election in Osun State gathers momentum, the political atmosphere is tilting to favor Governor Ademola Adeleke. On one side stands the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party many people describe as increasingly defined by noise, attacks, and recycled narratives of peddling falsehoods. On the other side is the administration of Ademola Adeleke; an administration widely regarded by good people of Osun as people-focused, transparent, and development-driven.

Over the past three years, the APC’s political strategy has largely revolved around criticism, misinformation and personal attacks rather than presenting a clear, actionable agenda for the future of Osun State. Public engagements by its leaders often echo the same pattern; condemnation without constructive alternatives. For a party seeking to regain public trust, this absence of a compelling vision raises serious concerns about its readiness to lead.

This skepticism is not without foundation. The memories of the administration led by Adegboyega Oyetola remain fresh in the minds of many citizens. For workers, retirees, and everyday residents, that period is often associated with hardship, stagnation, and limited developmental impact. The experience has left a lasting impression, shaping public perception and reinforcing doubts about the APC’s capacity to deliver meaningful progress.

The emergence of Munirudeen Oyebanji within the APC fold has further intensified calls for accountability. Having played roles in the previous APC administrations, many citizens are asking a simple but critical question: what exactly will be different this time? So far, clear answers have remained elusive, further strengthening the belief that the opposition lacks both direction and substance.

In contrast, Governor Adeleke’s administration continues to earn recognition for prioritizing the welfare of the people and pursuing visible development across key sectors. From infrastructure improvements to a more responsive style of governance, citizens boat that the current government has restored confidence in leadership and demonstrated a genuine commitment to service.

Beyond performance, the political awareness of the Osun electorate has significantly evolved. Today’s voters are informed, engaged, and unwilling to be swayed by propaganda or unverified claims. With access to multiple sources of information, they can independently assess the realities on ground and many are already doing so. This growing awareness has made it increasingly difficult for opposition narratives built on exaggeration or misinformation to gain credibility.

SALLY TIBBOT CONSULT MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALLEGED VIOLATIONS OF ACCOUNTING AND AUDITING STANDARDS

The audit report on Osun State covering the period 2018–2022, prepared by Sally Tibbot Consult, has generated significant public concern and professional debate. This matter transcends political considerations; it raises weighty regulatory and ethical questions that demand thorough and impartial scrutiny by the appropriate financial and auditing authorities. As the issue is whether the report complied with established accounting standards and whether it truly reflected a fair and accurate representation of the payroll and financial records it purported to examine.

An audit, by definition, is an independent examination of financial statements conducted to enable the auditor express an opinion on whether those statements present a true and fair view in accordance with an applicable financial reporting framework, such as the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The strength and credibility of any audit depend on strict compliance with professional principles; independence, objectivity, materiality, integrity, professional competence, and due care. Once any of these pillars is weakened, the reliability of the entire report becomes questionable.

The Osun State Government has maintained that the report presented by Sally Tibbot Consult did not align with the required accounting and reporting standards and failed to meet the threshold of a true and fair view. The particular concern is the issue of auditor independence. Independence is the bedrock of auditing; it requires that an auditor perform duties without bias, undue influence, or personal financial interest in the outcome of the engagement. Where remuneration arrangements create a direct financial incentive tied to specific findings; such as a reported commission of 15 percent of the total value of identified “ghost workers”; a significant self-interest threat arises. Under globally accepted ethical standards and professional codes, such threats must either be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level through safeguards. Failure to do so undermines public confidence in the audit process.

It was further reported that Sally’s Tibbot Consult had been engaged in similar circumstances as far back as May 2016 in Kogi State, where comparable controversies allegedly arose. If such patterns are established, it raises serious concerns about systemic professional deficiencies rather than isolated oversight. A firm entrusted with auditing public institutions must demonstrate consistency, competence, and strict adherence to regulatory frameworks. Any repeated controversy suggests a need for comprehensive review of the firm’s practices and professional standing.

The auditing profession in Nigeria operates within a structured regulatory environment guided by the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), the ethical and professional oversight of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). These frameworks are not symbolic references; they are binding standards designed to protect the public interest, ensure transparency, and maintain professional credibility. Where an audit engagement appears inconsistent with these standards, it is not merely a contractual disagreement but a potential breach of professional obligations.

Auditors are bound by fundamental ethical principles: integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality, and professional behavior. These principles exist to ensure that the auditor’s primary duty is to the public interest, not to personal or financial gain. If it is established that self-interest influenced the outcome of the Osun payroll audit, then the report cannot be regarded as dependable for public use. In such circumstances, regulatory and disciplinary mechanisms must be activated to protect both the profession and the public.

Appropriate actions may include legal review under principles of contract or tort where professional negligence or breach of duty is proven, as well as disciplinary proceedings by ICAN and other relevant regulatory bodies. Where violations are confirmed, sanctions; including suspension or withdrawal of professional license may be necessary to safeguard the integrity of the auditing profession. If repeated professional shortcomings are established, it would call into question the firm’s qualification to continue operating as a certified auditing entity.

This call for accountability is not rooted in sentiment but in the necessity to preserve the dignity and credibility of the auditing profession. Public sector audits carry enormous responsibility because they directly affect governance, fiscal transparency, and citizens’ trust in public institutions. To prevent further embarrassment to the profession and to uphold established standards under CAMA, ICAN regulations, and IFRS, any firm found wanting must be appropriately sanctioned.

Transparency, independence, and ethical compliance must remain non-negotiable in matters of public finance. Where these standards are compromised, decisive regulatory action becomes not just appropriate, but imperative.

AMBO’s Visit to Iwo: Promising Rebuilding of Mosque is A Reflection of Misplaced Priorities

The recent visit of the APC governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji (popularly called AMUBO), to Iwo has generated intense political conversation across Osun State. For many residents, the outing did not project the depth, clarity, or policy direction expected from someone seeking to govern a state as strategic and politically conscious as Osun.

At a time when Nigerians are battling inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and infrastructural decay, the people of Osun expect bold, measurable, and people-focused policy plans as we are witnessing under Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Governance is not about symbolism; it is about solving real problems.

It is therefore unsurprising that many citizens condemned the emphasis placed on reconstructing or renovating a mosque as part of a projected agenda of APC Governorship candidate. While religious institutions are important within communities, voters are increasingly asking: Is this the priority of a state yearning for more economic growth, youth employment, road dualization, healthcare access, and industrial expansion?

The reactions from Iwo residents on Facebook were not only direct but politically instructive. One commenter described the proposal to rebuild mosque as:

“A dangerous lack of ideas. In this modern era, when our people are crying for infrastructure, jobs, and economic growth, presenting the rebuilding of a mosque as a development plan is unacceptable. Governance requires vision, not religious tokenism.”

Another resident asked a fundamental governance question:

“How is this going to benefit the average Iwo citizen that has no affiliation with the religion? How is construction of a worship centre a developmental project that government should be concerned about?”

These comments reflect a politically awakened electorate. Iwo is not a town defined by a single religious identity, it is home to Muslims, Christians, and traditional worshippers. The development needs of the town cut across faith lines: roads, jobs, water works, healthcare facilities, education, and industrial investment as it is being witness under the current IMOLE administration.

One reaction from Facebook stated:

“Any gubernatorial candidate campaigning in Iwo should be reminded of the backwardness in terms of infrastructure, health and education, and be reminded of abandoned projects by Oyetola's led administration such as Water Works, OSADEP, Reality Radio-Vision… In conclusion, Iwo–Osogbo expressway should be prioritized.”

The message is clear: the people want economic and infrastructural transformation; not religious gestures packaged as governance.

In contrast, some commentators argue that the current administration by Governor Ademola Adeleke has focused on tangible development across Osun State. Several commenters referenced what they described as visible progress under the present government, with one stating:

“A failed attempt to distract the massive development Iwo is witnessing under the present Government.”

Another declared confidently:

“No Iwo son or daughter will believe this, as the little time HE Sen Ademola Adeleke has spent as Governor proves to us that the APC are mere liars and propagandists over Iwo development.”

These sentiments point out a broader political reality: the electorate is comparing records. Between 2018 and 2022, many believe that key projects were either stalled or abandoned. Now, voters are scrutinizing whether the APC’s new promises align with past performance.

One striking comment captured the mood:

“If you are serious about redeveloping religious building, start now. You don’t need to wait till you become Governor. Religion is a personal thing.”

This statement highlights a critical distinction; governance is about public goods and inclusive development. Religious buildings, while important socially, do not replace industrial parks, youth empowerment schemes, agricultural support, digital innovation hubs, or quality healthcare systems.

Politically, the 2026 election is shaping into a contest between continuity and reversal. For many in Iwo and across Osun, the question is simple: Who offers structured economic plans, transparent governance, and people-oriented infrastructure delivery?

The majority of the masses who are in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke maintain that the state is already on a development trajectory and that sustaining momentum is preferable to returning to what they describe as “tested and failed” APC leadership.

The Facebook reactions demonstrate one undeniable fact; Osun voters are no longer passive. They are asking hard questions. They are demanding results. And they are increasingly unwilling to exchange long-term development for short-term political symbolism.

As 2026 approaches, the people of Osun will ultimately decide whether their future lies in continuity under Governor Ademola Adeleke or in returning to an opposition that must convincingly explain not just what it promises but what it failed to deliver when previously entrusted with power.

Osun Must Reject the APC in the 2026 Governorship Election

Osun State must deliberately and decisively deny the All Progressives Congress (APC) any return to power in the 2026 governorship election.

As far as Osun politics is concerned, nothing good has ever come from supporting or sympathizing with the APC. The people of Osun are fully aware of what they endured during APC governance; an era marked by hardship, pain, and poor leadership.

Under APC administration, lives were lost as a result of ill-conceived and insensitive policies. Citizens were denied their constitutional and social rights, while governance was carried out with arrogance, as though power belonged permanently to a few individuals. They forgot that power belongs to the people and that leaders are merely custodians of the people’s mandate.

The policies of the APC crippled Osun’s economy. The state became financially distressed, workers became demoralized, and many regretted ever serving as public servants. Jobs were lost, livelihoods destroyed, and families were pushed into economic uncertainty. Osun people were left stranded and helpless.

We must not suffer from short memory. The past must guide our present decisions. APC’s records in Osun are clear and troubling, and our people must not quickly forget the damage done to the state.

As electioneering approaches, we must consistently remind ourselves and others of this history. The people have the power to choose their leaders and equally, the power to reject leaders who govern with cruelty, selfishness, and anti-people policies.

During the APC era, critical sectors suffered immensely:

* Education was neglected
* Healthcare was weakened
* Projects were abandoned
* Students and retirees were ignored
* Civil servants and ordinary citizens bore the brunt of failed governance

These realities must weigh heavily in deciding the 2026 governorship election. Osun must not make a regrettable mistake again.

This is not merely about politics; it is about the development and future of Osun State. Development must remain the highest priority of every true son and daughter of the state.

The current administration, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has demonstrated commendable commitment across all sectors. Developmental projects are spread across the thirty local governments of Osun State, including the Modakeke Area Council.

In the history of Osun State, never has development been this visible and widespread. No previous administration delivered on this scale. Governor Ademola Adeleke deserves commendation for his genuine passion for development, especially in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other critical sectors.

Osun must prove that it is politically wiser. We must not allow ourselves to be traded or deceived by politicians driven by personal interests. The 2026 governorship election is an opportunity to show the world that Osun is enlightened, liberated, politically conscious, and deliberate in choosing its leaders.

Politics goes beyond elections. What happens after the election matters even more. Our past experiences must remain fresh in our minds. That is why we must continue to educate and alert our people to choose carefully and elect a credible, capable leader who will steer the affairs of Osun State with integrity, accountability, and humility.

Governor of Osun State, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, has decried the illegal extension of self awarded tenure by chairmen and councillors of the All Progressive Congress (APC), declaring that tenure elongation is not allowed under the Nigerian constitution and within the context of established Supreme Court precedents

In a state broadcast today at Osogbo, the Governor spoke further: “It is a settled matter of law, that the tenure of elected officials in Nigeria cannot be extended for a single day after the expiration of their tenure. The Supreme Court in the case of former Governor Ladoja of Oyo State ruled that the governor’s tenure cannot be extended after finding in his favor, that he was removed from office illegally for about eleven months and reinstated him to office.

“In several fillings that have become public documents in our courts, including the Supreme Court, their lawyers and the Attorney-General of the Federation admitted that these APC chairmen and councillors have no claim to office beyond October 22, 2025.

“To further confirm that their so-called tenure has expired, the APC chairmen and councillors, approached the Federal High Court, seeking for an extension of their expired tenure.

“That case has not been heard. But the very act of seeking extension amounts to a clear admission, both in law and in fact, that whatever so-called tenure they claimed they had, had expired. Assuming, without conceding, that the APC chairmen and councillors had any tenure, the tenure expired on October 22, 2025.

“Despite these incontrovertible legal facts, they have continued to occupy the local government secretariat by brute force with police protection, allegedly acting on the instructions of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the governor clarified.

Pointing accusing fingers at former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Governor Adeleke expressed sadness that “in a democracy, these APC chairmen and councillors threatened in their various social media platforms, that they will continue to occupy the local government secretariats for as long as they want because they claim to have the backing of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Charging Mr Oyetola to allow Osun to breathe, the state governor narrated several attempts by the APC court sacked chairmen to create mayhem in Osun as a basis for declaration of a state of emergency, explaining how his administration frustrated several evil plots hatched against Osun people.

While condemning illegal occupation of the local governments, the governor wondered why in a democracy unlawful people are allowed by the police acting under the instruction of Mr Oyetola to illegally hijack and occupy the councils, asking if we are still practicing democracy.

According to the governor, “sometimes, I wonder if we are really under a democratic system of government, where nobody is above the law. In Osun State, it seems that the APC chairmen and councillors, whose so-called tenure have expired are above the law, by the grace of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

“I have formally written to heads of relevant federal security agencies regarding actions that threaten peace, and order in Osun State. It is deeply unfortunate that former Governor Gboyega Oyetola has chosen to weaponize federal institutions, particularly the Nigerian Police force, also he has equally applied same to the United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) to impose hardship and suffering, on the good people of Osun State through alleged illegal instructions”, the governor submitted.

The governor also accused the United Bank for Africa (UBA) of allegedly allowing unauthorized persons to operate local government accounts, adding that senior bank officials involved are already facing criminal prosecution. He questioned whether such actions would be tolerated in jurisdictions like New York or London, where the bank operates.

He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by stopping former Governor Oyetola from.issuing illegal directives to the police, warning that “Mr. President’s name is being used without his knowledge by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, to get the Nigerian police and the UBA to obey his alleged illegal directives.

Repeating the fact that there is no place in our constitution and laws that allows for tenure elongation for any elected official, Governor Adeleke noted that “what confronts us here is, law versus lawlessness, constitutional order versus naked impunity.

“I therefore call on Nigerians and all those who sacrificed so much for our democracy, to join us in demanding an immediate end to the siege on our local governments”, the governor noted in the broadcast.
