The 2025 Igede Agba Festival in Oju once again captivated hearts and honored its heritage. Celebrated annually on the first Ihigile market day in September, this New Yam Festival marks both gratitude for a fruitful harvest and a renewed invocation for the planting season ahead. Central to its observance are thanksgiving rituals to spiritual forces, vibrant dance troupes, communal feasts featuring yam as the "king of crops," and unwavering displays of unity across the Igede homeland Oju and Obi.

on the 5th of September 2025, the air in Oju was electricfied by Sons and daughters of the Igede nation who adorned themselves in their cultural patrimony—traditional wrappers in blue, black, and white stripes, crafted into striking old and modern designs.

Attendees included esteemed dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community leaders who participated in cultural dances, the blessed rituals, and shared in the communal feasting that defines the festival’s soul.
The festival’s highlight was the prestigious conferment of the title UGEBE I of Igede Nation—"The Lion of Igede Nation" upon Chief Nelson Alapa, whose roots trace to Igwu Onmachi in Uwoku through his mother.

The festival’s highlight was the prestigious conferment of the title UGEBE I of Igede Nation—"The Lion of Igede Nation"—upon Chief Nelson Alapa, whose roots trace to Igwu Onmachi in Uwoku through his mother.

Bestowed by Ad’Utu 1 of Igede Nation, Chief Daniel Ulegede (aka Kosoko), this title recognized Chief Alapa's relentless support for the Igede people. The chief extolled Hon. Alapa’s generosity and contributions, describing him as “a worthy son of the land who has given back to his community using his resources”—fulfilling the Igede tradition of honoring such benevolent leadership.

This recognition resonates deeply within Igede culture, where individual contributions towards communal welfare are both celebrated and memorialised during Igede Agba.

Beyond festivity, Igede Agba is a living tradition of unity, thanksgiving, reconciliation, and forward planning. The act of communal yam tasting families washing their hands together before feasting is a physical and spiritual symbol of unity, resolving conflict, and forging bonds across generations and households.

The agrarian roots of the festival, where yam is both sustenance and cultural currency, remind us of the discipline, integrity, and industrious spirit revered amongst the Igede. Igede Agba transcends celebration to become a moment of cultural renewal.

THE CROWN HAS SPOKEN: Igede Royal Fathers Declare their Son Chief Dr. Nelson Alapa the Chosen One for 2027
An Epic Convergence of Culture, Ancestry, and Politics as Zone C’s Next Senator Emerges with Royal Mandate

OJU, BENUE STATE – July 17th, 2025

History was made. Not with the sound of ballots, but with the beating of ancestral drums and the gathering of crowns. In a majestic two-day event filled with symbolism, spirituality, and solidarity, the great sons and daughters of Igede Nation witnessed a phenomenon many describe as divinely orchestrated: the Royal Endorsement of Chief Dr. Nelson Alapa to contest the 2027 Senate seat representing Benue South (Zone C).

This was not a conventional campaign kickoff. It was a sacred convocation, where tradition met prophecy, and royalty answered destiny’s call.

A DREAM FORETOLD, A MANDATE SEALED
Among the Igede people, it is said that the highest form of approval is not public applause — but ancestral alignment. Long before the event, whispers rippled through the clans: several revered elders and royal emissaries had seen visions — dreams confirming that one among them, born of a daughter of the land, was destined to lead the charge into a new era.

And so the kingdoms collapsed their boundaries.
United under one cause, the Igede Royal Institution — made up of all the classes of Igede chiefs, custodians of heritage, and spiritual gatekeepers — invoked their sacred rites to bless Chief Dr. Nelson Alapa, whose mother hails from Uwoku, the most politically influential bloc in Igedeland.

“In Igede tradition, a child of our daughters is not just our child — he is our inheritance. We give him to the land as our pride, our promise, and our power,” declared one of the elders at the gathering.

ROYALTY IN MOTION: WHO WAS THERE?
The climax of the event held in Oju —heart of Igede territory — where His Royal Majesty Chief Ogah Ero CP Rtd, the Adurahu Oligede, was ably represented by Ambassador Chief Ulegede Kosoko, who pronounced the royal blessing before an overflowing crowd of dignitaries.

In an emotional but powerful declaration, His Majesty’s message reverberated:
“It would be a worthy thing to have our son, born of Uwoku the heartbeat of our political structure, represent us at the Senate. We have tested him in public service. We have seen the fruits. Now, we send him forth. Go and bring the Senate seat home. We will support you from every part of our land.”

The gathering was a vibrant tapestry of influence in Igedeland with first class, second class and third class chiefs in attendance.

As the countdown to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections begins, political currents in Benue State are shifting, with the Igede community in Karu, Nasarawa State, throwing their full weight behind one of their own — Hon. Dr. Nelson Alapa — for the Senate seat representing Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C).

What was initially planned as a quiet courtesy visit by Hon. Alapa to the Omi Ny’Igede leadership in Karu Nasarawa state — Chief Sunday Ogah and group president Mr. Sunday Onyike — quickly transformed into a passionate show of solidarity and political endorsement. In what observers have now described as a defining moment, the Igede leaders declared their unequivocal support for Alapa’s senatorial ambition, describing him as “the voice Igede has been waiting for.”

“Zone C has waited long enough,” said Chief Ogah. “It is time we took our place on the red carpet of the National Assembly — not by request, but by right. Nelson Alapa is not just a candidate; he is the embodiment of that right.”

The endorsement resonates deeply with the people of Zone C, particularly the Igede, whose historical quest for equal representation has often been overshadowed. Alapa’s lineage — a first son of Lydia Egbe Ode from the esteemed Egbe Ode family of Igwe Omachi village in Uwokwu, Oju LGA — strengthens both his cultural and political connection to the Igede cause.
In the Company of Chief Inalegwu Entonu, Former Chairperson of Oju Local Government Madam Ire Arubi, Youth Activist Engr. Dan Atayi, Mr Austine Akogwu, Kelly Ekoyi Ekele and etc.
A seasoned politician and public servant, Hon. Nelson Alapa previously served in the House of Representatives, where he empowered an Igede son as his Senior Legislative Aide — a rare gesture hailed as both symbolic and strategic. He also facilitated key infrastructural projects across Igede land, leaving visible marks of development and advocacy.

Beyond legislative achievements, Alapa has remained a central figure in the Aligede movement, a political crusade for justice, inclusion, and recognition of the Igede people within the broader Zone C bloc. Supporters say his commitment is not driven by ambition but by a heartfelt dedication to the liberation of his people.

“Alapa has always stood where others fell silent,” said a community elder in Oju. “He has never turned his back on Igede, and now, it’s our turn to stand by him.”
The momentum behind his candidacy is gaining traction online and offline, with grassroots mobilization surging and social media flooded with hashtags such as , , and — signaling a groundswell of unity across political and generational lines.

Church leaders, traditional institutions, youth bodies, and women’s groups have also begun aligning in what is being described as a political awakening for Igede nation.

As the 2027 elections approach, it is becoming increasingly clear that the people of Igede are no longer content with the sidelines of political relevance. With Nelson Alapa at the forefront, they see a candidate who represents not just hope — but history in the making.

A lady once told her boyfriend that she was "managing" him, that there were hundreds of men who wanted her because in her words "I have the curves and I'm a hotcake. Men want me".

That was over 20 years ago. She is now in her 40s, looking much unlike she was then, unmarried and without a child. The then boyfriend now has teenage kids and has been married for almost 20 years.

She regrets badly.

She soon after found out that most of the men who wanted her, just wanted a taste of her body and nothing more.

Why do women often confuse h***y men with genuine ones who want commitment?

This same thing happens even with some married women.

A lady left her 14 year marriage with kids and eloped with a guy she had been chatting with on Facebook. The guy dumped her barely one month after she left her husband.
