COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS ASSURES UMUAKA COMMUNITY OF SWIFT GOVERNMENT ACTION.

The Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, today received a delegation from Umuaka Community in Njaba LGA led by Hon. Chief Ozioma Worship, Member representing Njaba Constituency.

The delegation also included the APC Chairman of Njaba LGA, Chief Chukwudi Egeuka, and other stakeholders.

Presenting their requests, Hon. Worship commended Governor Hope Uzodimma’s developmental strides and appealed for urgent intervention on two issues: the stormwater threatening Umuaka Primary School and the construction of the Afor Umuaka–Ukwuorji Road.

Responding, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to quality infrastructure across Imo State.

He assured the delegation of immediate action to re-channel the floodwater to protect pupils and residents. He also described the Afor Umuaka–Ukwuorji Road as strategic and said it will receive government attention soon.

In his closing remarks, Chief Chukwudi Egeuka commended the Governor for the ongoing infrastructural transformation and thanked the Commissioner for the prompt response.

UNSCHEDULED INSPECTION: RALPH NWOSU CALLS FOR ACCELERATED WORK ON OWERRI–ELELE ROAD PROJECT.

Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, yesterday embarked on an unscheduled inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the Owerri–Elele Road, Cherubim Junction –Ikenegbu–Owerri Club junction road, and Douglas Road to assess the pace and quality of work.

The inspection formed part of the State Government's commitment to ensuring that critical infrastructure projects are executed in line with approved specifications and delivered within schedule. These strategic roads are vital to improving traffic flow, enhancing connectivity, boosting commercial activities, and promoting socio-economic development in the state.

During the inspection, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of work on some sections but urged the contractor handling the Owerri–Elele Road project to increase the speed of construction to ensure timely completion.

He emphasized that Governor Hope Uzodimma led administration is unwavering in its resolve to provide world-class road infrastructure that will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, improve safety, stimulate commerce and investment, and further consolidate Imo State's position as a hub for economic growth and development.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Dozie, earlier today paid a courtesy visit to Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and the University, particularly in the area of road infrastructure within and around the institution.

The visit was aimed at fostering a stronger partnership to address the University's critical infrastructure needs, especially road development, while exploring areas of mutual cooperation that will enhance accessibility, improve the teaching and learning environment, and support the institution's continued growth. It further reinforced the longstanding relationship between the Imo State Government and FUTO, reflecting their shared commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and educational excellence.

Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, CON, to providing durable and sustainable infrastructure across the State. He assured the Vice-Chancellor that the Ministry would continue to partner with the University in addressing its infrastructure concerns, particularly road projects, and would provide the necessary technical and institutional support to ensure the successful ex*****on of projects that will benefit the University community and the general public.

Responding, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Dozie commended the Imo State Government for prioritising infrastructural development, noting that the ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state have significantly improved connectivity, stimulated economic activities, and created a more conducive environment for education and development. He expressed appreciation for the Commissioner's assurances and conveyed the University's readiness to work closely with the Ministry in advancing infrastructure that will support academic excellence, research, and innovation.

FROM DILAPIDATION TO MODERNITY: OWERRI–ELELE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION HITS 80% COMPLETION.

The ongoing reconstruction and upgrading of the 35.1-kilometre Owerri–Elele Road has reached an appreciable milestone, with the project currently at approximately 80% completion.

Prior to the intervention of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, the road had become severely deplorable due to years of pavement failure, potholes, and poor drainage, making movement difficult for motorists and posing significant safety concerns.

Recognizing the strategic importance of the corridor, His Excellency, the Governor approved its reconstruction to modern engineering standards. As one of the major gateways into Imo State, the Owerri–Elele Road plays a vital role in facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services, while promoting trade and economic activities within and beyond the State.

Inspection of the project shows substantial progress, with major construction works already completed and the remaining sections advancing steadily. Upon completion, the road will provide safer, faster, and more efficient transportation, while further enhancing connectivity and supporting socio-economic development.

The impressive progress recorded on the project reflects the unwavering commitment of the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led administration to delivering durable infrastructure that improves the lives of the people and drives sustainable development across Imo State.

FROM EROSION TO EXCELLENCE:
ORLU–AKOKWA–UGA ROAD NEARS FULL COMPLETION.

The ongoing construction and rehabilitation of the Orlu–Akokwa–Uga with Bridge and reclamation of erosion created ravine have been duly completed awaiting its opening for use of the public.

Presently, the only outstanding section is the bridge corridor, where critical engineering solutions are being deployed. These include channeling of water flow, embankment protection, recovery of the bridge environment and other ancillary structural works necessary to guarantee the long-term durability, safety, and sustainability of the infrastructure.

The project has been successfully completed up to the Imo–Anambra boundary, thereby restoring seamless connectivity between both states and significantly improving ease of movement for commuters, residents, and businesses along the corridor.

It is noteworthy that the 19.6-kilometre road had, over the years, become totally impassable, occasioned by unimaginable gully erosion that not only hampered transportation and economic activities within the affected communities but also destroyed properties and rendered many residents homeless.

However, the timely and strategic intervention of His Excellency, Sen.Hope Uzodimma, CON, has transformed the road from a major challenge into a shining example of responsive governance and infrastructural transformation. Today, the road stands as a clear testament to the administration’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and improved road infrastructure across the state.

Furthermore, the Imo State Ministry of Works, under the leadership of its Commissioner, Ralph Nwosu, has left no stone unturned in ensuring strict monitoring, quality control, and effective supervision of the project from inception to its current advanced stage.

Upon opening of the link bridge, the Orlu–Akokwa–Uga Road will serve as a critical economic corridor, fostering commerce, enhancing inter-state connectivity, and improving the socio-economic well-being of the people.

COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS INSPECTS STRATEGIC ROAD AND EROSION CONTROL PROJECTS IN ORLU ZONE.

In line with the Imo State Government's commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and enhancing connectivity across the State, the Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, embarked on an inspection tour of ongoing road, bridge, and erosion control projects within Orlu Zone.

The Commissioner commenced the tour with an inspection of the Orlu–Ihiala Road Project, including the storm water control channel at the Amaifeke axis. During the visit, members of the host community, led by Dr. Vin Odogwu, appealed for the extension of the drainage system beyond the current scope of work.

While acknowledging the community's concerns, the Commissioner explained that, considering the crest nature and topography of the road, a more sustainable solution would require the provision of land by the community for the construction of a catchment basin, adding that this would facilitate proper storm water discharge, mitigate erosion risks, and ensure the long-term protection of the road infrastructure and adjoining properties.

The Commissioner also inspected the ongoing Orlu–Urualla–Akokwa–Uga Road Project, including the erosion-ravaged sections at Umuchima and the bridge construction across the Urashi River, linking Umuchima and Mgbe communities.

He commended the contractor for the impressive pace and quality of work and directed that the remaining gully-affected sections be reclaimed and adequately stabilized to guarantee the durability and safety of the road corridor.

As part of the inspection tour, the Commissioner visited several ongoing road projects within Orlu Township, including:

The Commissioner emphasized that these projects are critical to the economic and social transformation of the area, as they will improve transportation, facilitate trade and agricultural activities, enhance security, reduce travel time, and boost socio-economic development across the benefiting communities.

PROJECT REPORT ON IMO INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE BUILDING AND ONGOING CONSTRUCTION OF DOUGLAS ROAD.

Construction and rehabilitation works on Douglas Road are progressing steadily as part of the infrastructural renewal drive of the State Government.

The project has witnessed the installation of New Jersey median kerbs and side barrier walls which demarcate the walkway from the carriageway from Chainage 0+000 to the end of the road. The Douglas road corridor is currently undergoing rehabilitation works in preparation for asphalt overlay.

At the 11-storey Imo Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) Building, construction has advanced to the 6th floor level, with piping, plumbing, electrical installations, and other fittings already in place.

Upon completion, the world-class Revenue Service House will enhance revenue administration, improve operational efficiency, and provide a modern working environment for staff.

The Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, has continued to supervise these projects to ensure compliance with specifications and quality construction standards.

These projects further reflect the visionary leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma, CON, in revolutionizing critical infrastructure and driving sustainable development across State.

“WEEP NO MORE, UMUGUMA ROAD WILL RECEIVE MASSIVE RECONSTRUCTION SOON” COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS, RALPH NWOSU ASSURES COMMUNITY DELEGATION.

Earlier today, the people of Umuguma Autonomous Community, led by His Royal Highness, Eze Dr. G.N. Ugorji, paid a courtesy visit to Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, to interface with the Ministry over the prolonged delay in the reconstruction of the Umuguma Road.

The delegation expressed deep concern over the deplorable and impassable condition of the road, which they noted has adversely affected businesses, transportation, and economic activities within the community for several years.

They lamented that despite the commencement of the rainy season, there were still no visible signs of earth-moving equipment or construction activities on the road.

Speaking during the visit, the community leaders appealed to the State Government to urgently intervene and commence full reconstruction works on the road to alleviate the suffering of residents and road users.

The Commissioner in his response reassured the delegation that the reconstruction of Umuguma Road remains a top priority of the State Government.

Adding that the people of Umuguma should “weep no more,” as the road would, in the coming weeks, witness massive construction activities aimed at restoring the road to a modern and motorable standard.

In his words, “If MCC Road and the Owerri/Orlu Road, and other roads could be reconstructed and given a facelift, Umuguma cannot be an exception.” he stated.

The Commissioner further reiterated the unwavering commitment of the State Government toward redefining and transforming the infrastructural landscape of Umuguma and other communities across the state.

Earlier in his remarks, His Royal Highness, Eze Dr. G.N. Ugorji, appreciated the Commissioner for granting the audience and for the assurances given to the community. He emphasized the need for urgent action considering the importance of the road to residents and businesses operating within the area.

President-General of the community, Engr Blessing Oparaeke, in his vote of thanks, applauded the State Government for its ongoing infrastructural development strides across the state and passionately appealed that such developmental projects be extended to Umuguma community in earnest.

The Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, earlier today embarked on an unscheduled inspection tour of three critical ongoing infrastructure projects within the Owerri metropolis. The projects inspected include:
1. Reconstruction and rehabilitation of Douglas Road
2. 11-story Imo Internal Revenue Service Building
3. Mbari/Ikenegbu/MCC Junction Road

At the 11-story Imo Internal Revenue Service Building, the Commissioner inspected structural works and internal fittings currently underway. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of ex*****on, stating that the project is progressing appreciably. He highlighted the building’s strategic role in expanding the state’s revenue base and providing a conducive, modern facility for staff and taxpayers alike.

While visiting the Mbari/Ikenegbu/MCC Junction Road, where asphalt laying is currently in progress, the Commissioner charged the contractor to sustain quality construction and ensure that all materials meet approved standards for durability. He added that the government will not accept substandard delivery on any project funded with public resources.

The unscheduled inspection visit by the Commissioner underscores the Ministry of Works’ commitment to proactive supervision, transparency, and accountability in project delivery. It reflects the Ministry’s resolve to guarantee value for money and ensure that projects are completed within agreed timelines.

Addressing journalists at the end of the inspection tour, the Commissioner seized the opportunity to appeal to road users and residents to bear with the temporary inconveniences caused by the ongoing works.
