RELIEF DONATIONS WAS AN ACT OF SOLIDARITY, NOT RANSOM PAYMENT- PATIGI LG COUNCIL

The attention of the Patigi Local Government Council has been drawn to a report published by Nupeko TV, quoting a Facebook user, Ishiaku Alhaji Aliyu, criticising the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Adam Rufai, over the Council’s recent solidarity visit and relief donations to residents of Lata Nna Community.

While the Council respects the right of citizens to express their concerns, it is important to set the record straight and clarify that the administration of Hon. Ahmed Adam Rufai has never regarded the payment of ransom to non-state actors as a solution to insecurity, nor does the Council negotiate with kidnappers or other criminal elements.

As a government, our primary responsibility in the face of insecurity is to mobilise and support security agencies, strengthen security presence and work with relevant stakeholders to protect lives and property. This responsibility is one that the administration has continued to pursue steadfastly.

The recent approval of a Nigeria Army Battalion for Patigi Local Government Area is a significant development in this regard. The Chairman has consistently advocated for stronger security architecture across the LGA and has welcomed the approval as an important step towards restoring lasting peace and security in our communities.

During his visit to Lata Nna on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the Chairman assured residents that he would not relent in his efforts to mobilise security personnel to the affected areas pending the arrival of the newly approved Battalion.

Importantly, while the Chairman was engaging with residents and traditional leaders, the Village Head of Lata Nna testified to the active support being rendered by Army personnel stationed at the Gada checkpoint.

The Chairman also informed the residents that he had appealed to the Army personnel stationed at Ndanaku to periodically mobilise their men to Lata Nna, given the proximity of the two communities, in order to strengthen security coverage and provide additional protection to residents.

The Captain in charge of the Patigi Forward Operating Base (FOB), who was also present during the engagement, further assured the traditional leaders that the personnel operating at the Gada checkpoint and those stationed at Ndanaku operate under his directive. He stated that he had consistently engaged them to provide security support to the Lata Nna community whenever necessary.

These facts are important because they demonstrate that the Council's engagement with the community went far beyond the distribution of relief materials. It was a direct engagement with residents and security stakeholders on the need to strengthen the security architecture around Lata Nna and its neighbouring communities.

The Council therefore finds it misleading to portray the relief donations as an attempt to substitute governance for security or as a contribution towards ransom payment. The items were provided strictly as a gesture of solidarity, humanitarian support and encouragement to a community going through a difficult period.

We understand the pain and anxiety being experienced by families affected by the recent incidents, particularly the family of the abducted resident. Their plight remains a matter of serious concern to the government. However, in addressing such sensitive security situations, government must act responsibly and avoid actions that could further endanger victims or encourage criminal activities.

We therefore appeal to the people of Lata Nna to remain calm, hopeful and supportive of ongoing security efforts. The Patigi Local Government Council will continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Army, and other security agencies, traditional institutions and community stakeholders towards restoring normalcy and ensuring the safety of our people.

The Patigi Local Government Council, under the visionary leadership of Hon. Ahmed Adam Rufai, has completed and officially delivered the Gbanyin Bridge in Kpada Ward 1.
