ASARI-TORU LGA MARKS 2026 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY WITH COLOURFUL CELEBRATION
Women in Asari-Toru Local Government Area joined the global community on Sunday to commemorate the International Women’s Day with a colourful and impactful event highlighting the invaluable role of women in community and societal development.
The celebration, observed in collaboration with the council, began with a commendation service at New Realm Baptist Church, where women from across the local government area gathered in vibrant and elegant outfits, creating an atmosphere of unity, gratitude, and celebration.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Supervisor for Women Affairs, Hon. Leddy Douglas, acknowledged the tireless efforts and resilience of women who continue to inspire, lead, and transform their communities. She encouraged women in Asari-toru to remain supportive of one another while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of society.
The 2026 celebration was observed under the theme “Give to Gain,” which emphasizes investing in women through access to resources, education, and mentorship as a pathway to building a more equitable and prosperous society. The theme underscores the principle that when women are supported and empowered, particularly in leadership, business, and community development, the entire society benefits from the gains.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Hon. Barr. Vivian Asawo, Hon. Barr. Mrs. Ntiego Awoala Johnson, and the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Mrs. Deborah Bob Manuel, who all commended the strength, dedication, and achievements of women in the local government area while encouraging greater collaboration in advancing women’s empowerment.
Speakers at the event also used the occasion to commend the Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, PhD, DSSRS, for the numerous initiatives and support systems he has put in place to empower women across the local government area. They noted that his commitment to women’s development through inclusive policies and empowerment opportunities clearly reflects the essence of this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” as investing in women continues to yield positive outcomes for families, communities, and the overall development of the LGA.
The celebration had a significant impact on participants, reinforcing the importance of supporting women as key drivers of social and economic progress in Asari-Toru Local Government Area. The colourful gathering not only celebrated the achievements of women but also inspired renewed commitment toward promoting equality, opportunity, and empowerment for women in the local government area.
