GNI Mourns Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheik Orunsolu's Death

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka is saddened by the demise of the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheik Liadi Orunsolu and hereby condoles the family and the Muslim community over the loss.

GNI notes that the late Sheik was an expemplary Islamic scholar and leader who was committed to the growth of Egbaland and by extension Ogun state.

"I am saddened by the demise of Sheik Orunsolu. He was a very good promoter of the tenets of Islam. He always stood for truth and peace."

"Having interfaced with him on many occasions, I can say Baba was a very versatile Islamic scholar whose deeper understanding of Islamic teachings and principles easily stood him out among others."

"His demise would no doubt be felt by the Muslim community not only in Egbaland, but the entire state and Nigeria." he notes.

He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy on the soul of the departed Chief Imam whle urging all those he left behind to follow his footsteps.

"May Allah give his families, the Muslim community and all those related to the great Sheikh, the fortitude to bear this big loss." he concluded.

ONE YEAR ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT: My immediate personal reactions to the opposition's disclaimers.

I have not seen any reason anyone will feel disturbed over the one year achievements of this administration in Ogun state. Going by the popular Yoruba saying " arise ni arika" , it is obvious that what are being reeled out by the government media men are what we have seen on ground despite the obvious economic and social challenges that has hindered government activities in the last four months.

What seems not clear to me about those critics are the basis for their arguments, whether they are claiming that the achievements are not worthy of mentioning or they are disputing the facts of their existence.

1 Are they saying the government have not done much to address the unacceptable situations of school buildings inherited from the last regime: have we not seen how dilapidated structures of school buildings were being renovated across the state?

2. Are they saying the contracts for building of additional classrooms to further uplift the standard through SUBEB are just ordinary audio announcements?

3. Are they saying those road construction works and palliatives on many roads across the state that we are seeing in place are not real?

4. Are they saying the ongoing and near completion of 250 low cost middle income housing projects in Kemta and few other projects in the Housing ministry are mere flash of non existing structure photographs.

5. Are they telling us the new security trust fund and distribution of those patrol, operational vehicles and motor bikes distributed to the Police and other security outfits in the state to improve state security service logistics were merely been stage managed ?

6. Are they saying the ongoing rehabilitation and renovation of 20 health centres to improve Primary health service delivery at one per local government across the state are lies or jokes.

7. Are they saying the rehabilitation and renovation plus equipments purchase and delivery to OOUTH that has further improved tertiary health service delivery in the state did not happen afterall.

8. Are they saying the local government Administration in the state has not been re energised and made functional by this administration in the last one year to deliver dividends of governance at the grassroots

9. If we have not seen many things, I think we have seen a government that has been working to keep our environment clean and tidy which is a clear departure from the old order of a filthy state mostly embarrassing then

10. Definitely , we are not blind to have seen a well focused administration to democratic principles of governance and separation of power along the three tier of government in the state: a government that has improved the architecture of good governance with improved social and public relations.

11. As a living witness, I have also seen a lot been achieved in right placing the structural policies of government within the last one year to lay good and solid foundation for improved and equitable infrastructure development .

12. Our Institutions of higher learning in the state withing the last one year have seen a renewed commitment of their proprietor and visitor to their development through physical presence at their convocation ceremonies and budgetary allocations.

13. Are they saying they are not aware of the laudable government intervention projects in Agriculture in the state and the various empowerment programs that are giving hopes to thousands of our youth for sustainable income and job creation .

This is just the first year and despite the global Pandemic and economic challenges, the fact that we still have these sectoral projects on the list of the achievements of the Administration make one to believe that the government is on the right path to further our growth and development as first among equals in the comity of states in the Federation

A good Saturday evening begins with a pleasant Friday. Congratulations for these few ones I can mention while we expect more land breaking achievements in the next one year.

Gov Abiodun Mourns Chief Imam Orunsolu

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Tuesday mourned the death of the Chairman, League of Imams in Ogun State and Chief Imam of Egbaland, Alhaji Liadi Orunsolu.

Abiodun, in a statement he personally signed, sent his condolences to the Government and people of Egbaland in particular and the State and the Muslim ummah in general.

The Governor, who described Orunsolu’s death as a great loss to the State said the late Chief Imam spent his days praying and teaching values and precepts of the Quran.

“Baba Orunsolu lived a pious, worthy and highly recommendable life that will be remembered by posterity. I urge all Muslims in the State to immortalise him by living the virtues of love, peace, and neighbourliness he lived and propagated."

The Governor added that the death of the late cleric marked a great loss and the end of an era.

“I will personally miss his warmth and truthfulness. He always spoke truth to power and was a huge pillar and supporter of our Administration. We were like father and son, and he never dealt with me as a Governor. He was brutally frank on issues concerning the people and the wellbeing of our State,” the Governor said in the statement.

“The fact that Chief Imam died after the successful completion of the 2020 Ramadan Fasting at a grand old age of 99, and this indicates that he walked his talk. He was unpretentious about what he preached and practiced, and we owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his forthrightness.”

“I pray that Allah would grant the soul of the departed good rest, and comfort his family,” the statement read.

The Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun has almost completed the first phase of construction of the 250-Unit Prince Court Estate, Kemta Idi-Aba in Abeokuta, the State Capital.

The phase is set to deliver 150 units to State workers at affordable rates.

While the Project addresses the housing deficit that the Abiodun-led Administration met on ground, it equally contributes to workers' welfare, in line with the campaign promises of the Governor in May, 2019.
