SOIRS Recognises Umar Yusuf Ibrahim as Staff of the Month โ€“ July

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) has recognised Umar Yusuf Ibrahim as the Staff of the Month for July, in recognition of his outstanding performance, dedication and commitment to duty.

The award was presented by AA & T Consultants, alongside the Executive Chairman of SOIRS, as part of the Serviceโ€™s efforts to promote excellence and recognise exceptional performance among its staff.

The Service and AA & T Consultants commended Umar Yusuf Ibrahim for his impressive performance and encouraged him to sustain the same level of dedication, professionalism and commitment.

The recognition is also intended to motivate other staff members to remain diligent, productive and up to the task, giving everyone the opportunity to be recognised for outstanding performance in subsequent months.

SOIRS Engages Urban and Regional Planning Board on Revenue Digitalisation

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) held an engagement with the Urban and Regional Planning Board to discuss the digitalisation of revenue processes relating to the Board and explore ways of improving revenue administration through technology.

The engagement was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue and Taxation, Dr. Isah Mauzu, alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban and Regional Planning Board. Representatives of AA & T Consultants and some staff of SOIRS were also present.

The discussions focused on the digital transformation of revenue collection and administration within the Urban and Regional Planning Board, with emphasis on improving efficiency, transparency, accountability, revenue monitoring, and ease of payment for taxpayers and stakeholders.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to leverage technology, strengthen revenue systems, and improve Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for sustainable development in Sokoto State.

SOIRS Participates in UDUS Students' Tax Society Programme on Enhancing Internally Generated Revenue

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) proudly participated in the Students' Tax Society programme organized by the Tax Students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), with the theme: "Enhancing Internally Generated Revenue Through Effective Tax Administration."

The programme brought together academics, tax professionals, and students to discuss the importance of effective tax administration in promoting sustainable revenue generation and socio-economic development.

During the event, the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Nura Boko, and the Head of the Department of Accounting, Prof. Yahaya Yusuf, commended SOIRS for honouring the invitation and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the University and tax authorities. They noted that sustained partnerships in tax education and public awareness would help improve voluntary tax compliance and enhance public understanding of taxation.

The programme also provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement between students and tax professionals, encouraging knowledge sharing and inspiring the next generation of tax administrators and policymakers.

SOIRS Meets with the 23 Local Government Chairmen to Strengthen Revenue Generation

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) under the leadership of the Special Adviser to the governor, on Revenue and Taxation Dr Isah Muazu, held a strategic meeting with the Chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The meeting, which was attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, focused on identifying revenue sources collectible by both the Local Government Councils and the Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service, with the aim of improving revenue administration and enhancing internally generated revenue across the state.

Discussions centered on strengthening collaboration, improving compliance, harmonizing revenue collection processes, and adopting practical strategies that will boost revenue generation for sustainable development in Sokoto State.

SOIRS remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to build a transparent, efficient, and technology-driven revenue system that supports the growth and development of the state.

SOIRS Enlightens Participants on the Importance of Tax Identification Number (Tax ID) at Danish Refugee Council Workshop

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) participated in the 3rd Linkage Workshop with Financial Service Providers (FSP) organised by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in collaboration with its partners at Dankani Guest Inn, Sokoto.

The workshop was part of an initiative aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable residents from Sokoto North and Sokoto South Local Government Areas by improving their access to financial services, promoting financial inclusion, and strengthening their economic resilience.

During the awareness session, representatives of SOIRS educated participants on the significance of the Tax Identification Number (Tax ID) under the new tax administration framework. The presentation highlighted the benefits of obtaining a Tax ID, its role in accessing formal financial services, conducting legitimate business activities, and promoting tax compliance.

Participants were also guided on the simple process of obtaining a Tax ID and encouraged to register in order to take advantage of the opportunities available through the formal economy and government initiatives.

SOIRS appreciates the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) for providing a platform to educate citizens and remains committed to partnering with development organisations and stakeholders in promoting tax awareness, financial inclusion, and sustainable economic development across Sokoto State.

SOIRS Strengthens Partnership with the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration towards improving internally generated revenue across the State.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between both institutions, promoting tax compliance at the grassroots, improving revenue administration within the local government system, and exploring practical strategies for sustainable revenue growth.

The discussions also emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement, taxpayer sensitization, and institutional synergy in achieving the objectives of the ongoing tax reforms and building a more efficient, transparent, and accountable revenue system.

Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) is proud to participate in the Sokoto State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) stakeholders' engagement aimed at strengthening sustainable revenue administration for markets and other project facilities across the State.

During the engagement, SOIRS provided technical advice on revenue generation, tax compliance, and transparent revenue management mechanisms to ensure efficient, accountable, and sustainable operation of markets established under the project.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government initiatives through sound revenue administration, capacity building, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to promote economic growth and improve service delivery for the benefit of the people of Sokoto State.
