Quite interesting to realize that things like this happened and no such reports or content got online.
Like ₦160M was awarded to some Akwa Ibomites, and no one talked about it all through yesterday except Bovi.
It was announced that Hilda Baci would be partnering with the State Government to run a kitchen at Unity Park this Christmas, yet no one reported it.
Plans for the Christmas Unplugged were allegedly unveiled, but not a single piece of such information got here.
These are just the few things I could gather from the Governor’s speech at the Gala Night. Who knows how many more important pieces of information were shared there but were never reported or shared by the available media with us?
How many of you knew that Nathaniel Bassey was in Uyo on Sunday for the State Anniversary Thanksgiving?
I think it’s time the Government and its agencies of communication started taking the new digital media seriously.
There is no way professional event content creators would have been there and these essential aspects of the celebration wouldn’t have circulated online.
Everything Government does is ultimately meant to communicate something to the people.
Yes, livestreaming is great.
But how many people can sit down and watch a livestream of an event for 3–4 hours straight?
Even at that, how many people can a livestream reach?
Can a livestream go viral and reach millions of people who were not even looking for the event in the first place?
Not in the same way short-form content can.
Content is the FUTURE of communication, publicity and PR.
The earlier this is adopted into the corporate media and event communication strategy of the State, the better.
Still, it’s not a must sha!

Something that could have gone viral across platforms if professional event content creators had been there intentionally documenting these moments.
Where are the short Reels showing arrivals of the special guests who attended the Gala Night?
Where are the airport arrival and reception clips?
Where are the highlights showing how Akwa Ibomites celebrated the 39th Anniversary of the creation of the State?
Where are the Reels or highlights showing the moments the Governor rewarded and honoured some Akwa Ibomites?
Media has gone beyond a news report in Monday’s newspaper and TV highlights meant primarily for television viewers.
One of the biggest platforms for communication and publicity today is social media.
That is where people spend a significant amount of their time today.
If your media coverage plans don’t prioritise social media content, then frankly, it’s a faulty media strategy.
Your livestreaming teams are not enough.
Get content creators.
Train them.
Deploy them to create beautiful, engaging content from your events and activities.
I didn’t say reels o!
I mean detailed contents from your events.
(I know to whom it may concern understands the differences)
And I didn’t also say hire me.
I said build a team and deploy them.
Social media is the future.
That is one of the most effective ways to intentionally project the activities, people, culture, achievements and opportunities of this State to a wider audience.
The Governor can do so much.
But if those things aren’t properly documented and intentionally projected, people will continue to question what the Government is doing simply because they are not seeing it.
The media team of his Government should help him.

Livestreams are useful, but their reach is limited. They are also not designed to travel in the same way short-form content does.
Pictures can travel, but their distribution and discoverability can still be limited.
News reports can inform. But government-related content can sometimes face additional challenges in reaching audiences organically, depending on the platform, format and how the content is presented.
Television and radio can reach people, but how many people can they reach at a particular moment?
Especially if your TV or radio is not switched on when the report is being aired? 🙄
But short-form social media content has the ability to package a moment in a way that can be shared far beyond the people who were physically present.
One short video can reach millions of people, thereby expanding the reach of Government communications, activities and programmes.
Event coverage and live publicity have come to stay.
And they are already helping brands, corporate organisations, governments and institutions generate visibility for their programmes and events.
I dare say that social media should be one of the most important parts of any organisation’s or government’s PR, communication and publicity strategy today.
We live in Akwa Ibom and would love to share those beautiful activities of our Government and help them reach more people.
Since we can’t always get there to create the content ourselves, why not get content creators into your team to create and share these moments with the public?
We would get the content, and we would push it!
We want this Akwa Ibom to be great o!
We want this city to also get seen for its beauty, activities and events!
And we have almost everything needed for this State to drive beautiful social media conversations.
Abeg, adopt social media!
To place Akwa Ibom on the map no be by mouth!
It’s by intentionality.
It’s by adapting to new realities and changing how things used to be.
I know a lot of the people in charge may not fully understand how social media communication works.
But if you dedicate yourself to studying it, I bet you, you will understand it better, and it would help you communicate what is happening in the State more effectively to the world.
People need to see Akwa Ibom in all its beauty and glory before they can aspire to come to Akwa Ibom.
