Clerk AKHA Celebrates Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki @ Birthday
.. hails her commitment to humanity

The Clerk of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mrs. Nsikak Orok, has felicitated Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of the Patience Umo Eno Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), on the occasion of her birthday.

In a goodwill message, the Clerk described Noble Lady Obareki as a compassionate and purposeful personality whose dedication to humanitarian service and commitment to improving the lives of others continue to make a meaningful difference in society.

Mrs. Orok commended her for the passion, diligence and sense of responsibility she has consistently brought to her service, particularly through initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare, empowerment and wellbeing of vulnerable and underserved members of society.

She noted that her contributions reflect the values of compassion, selflessness and service to humanity, describing her birthday as an opportunity to celebrate not only another year of life, but also the positive impact of her work and the lives touched through her humanitarian engagements.

The Clerk prayed God Almighty to continue to grant Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki wisdom, sound health, renewed strength and divine grace to sustain her service to humanity and contribute even more to the development of Akwa Ibom State.

Mrs. Orok further wished the celebrant greater accomplishments, lasting joy, peace, fulfilment and abundant divine favour as she begins another chapter of her life.

She expressed confidence that Noble Lady Obareki's continued commitment to service would inspire greater acts of compassion and strengthen collective efforts toward building a more inclusive and caring society.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has mourned the passing of a former Majority Leader and member representing Abak State Constituency in the 2nd Assembly, late Hon. (Prince) Imo Akpan Ibokette, who served from 1999 to 2003.

The Assembly expressed its condolences during a valedictory sitting held in honour of the deceased lawmaker on Thursday at the Assembly Chambers in Uyo.

Speaking at the sitting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeme J Otong, described Ibokette as a distinguished statesman and public servant whose contributions to legislative and public service left a lasting impression on Akwa Ibom State.

Otong said the late legislator was known for his integrity, dependability, courage, resourcefulness, experience, humility, wisdom, and a strong sense of responsibility. He added that although his physical presence was gone, the values he represented would continue to endure.

According to the Speaker, Ibokette's principles, relationships, and conduct earned him respect among colleagues and members of the public. At the same time, his record of service remained an important part of his legacy.

The Speaker said the death of the former lawmaker was an occasion not only for mourning but also for reflecting on the quality of life and public service he represented.

He noted that the late Ibokette's reputation for trustworthiness and keeping his word provided a lesson for present and future leaders, stressing that public office was temporary, while the character demonstrated in office could remain permanently in the memories of the people.

Also speaking on behalf of the 2nd Assembly and the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Senator Aloysius Etuk expressed grief over the death, saying he submitted to the will of God despite the painful loss.

Etuk described Ibokette as a man of integrity, a hero, an icon and a dependable legislator who distinguished himself in different circumstances.

He further described the deceased as a team player and legislative colossus, recalling his role in moving what he described as the first motion that affirmed the relocation of the 2nd Assembly to its present chambers, thereby contributing to the transformation of the legislature from its former Barracks Road location.

A former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uwem Udoma, described Ibokette as a foremost legislator who represented Abak during the Fourth Republic and contributed significantly to the political development of the constituency and the state.

Udoma noted that Ibokette also served for two terms as Senatorial Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and remained active in public service until his death while serving as Special Adviser to Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

In his remarks, the Leader of the Conference of Former Legislators, Hon. Saturday Akpan, described the deceased as a competent and committed lawmaker and a founding member of the Congress of Former Legislators.

Akpan said Ibokette contributed to the growth of the association and prayed God to grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

The valedictory sitting featured the reception and procession of the remains of the late lawmaker by serving members of the House and former legislators.

Late Hon. Imo Akpan Ibokette is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Meanwhile, the House adjourned plenary to reconvene on a later date.

AKHA Appears Before Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for 2027 Budget Appraisal
.. Presents ₦48.683bn Proposal to Ministry of Economic Development

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has presented a proposed budget of ₦48.683 billion for the 2027 fiscal year during an appraisal exercise organised by the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

The exercise, which took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the State Secretariat Complex, Idongesit Nkanga Avenue, Uyo, formed part of the State Government’s budget preparation process for the 2027 fiscal year.

The delegation of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was led by the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Nsikak Orok, who represented the institution at the budget defence and appraisal session.

Presenting the Assembly’s proposed financial plan, the delegation outlined the House’s budgetary requirements for the 2027 fiscal year, with a total proposed budget size of ₦48.683 billion.

The appraisal provided an opportunity for officials of the Ministry to scrutinise the Assembly’s proposals, examine the justification for its projected expenditure and assess the extent to which the proposed allocations reflect the operational needs and priorities of the legislature.

The exercise is part of the wider process through which Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Akwa Ibom State Government present and defend their proposed budget estimates before the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

The Ministry is expected to assess the submissions of the various MDAs, review their programmes and proposed expenditures, and ensure that the budget proposals are consistent with the development priorities, policy objectives and overall economic direction of the State.

The appraisal also provides a platform for identifying areas requiring clarification or adjustment before the final budget estimates are consolidated for consideration within the State’s broader budget framework.

For the State House of Assembly, the proposed budget is expected to support the effective discharge of its constitutional, legislative, representational and oversight responsibilities, as well as the administration and other activities necessary for the smooth functioning of the legislature.

The 2027 budget preparation process is expected to culminate in the consolidation of the various MDA submissions into the State’s overall budget proposal, in line with the development agenda and fiscal objectives of the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The exercise underscores the importance of systematic budget appraisal in promoting fiscal discipline, ensuring appropriate allocation of public resources and aligning government spending with the developmental needs and priorities of Akwa Ibom State.

Central Ibiono Ibom Youth Movement Endorses Tinubu, Eno, Other APC Candidates for Second Term

The Central Ibiono Ibom Youth Movement (CIYM) has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Senator Aniekan Bassey, Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, and Member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Moses Essien, for a second term in office.

The endorsement was made on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Pavilion in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area during a gathering of the youth movement attended by members from various wards in Central Ibiono Ibom.

The youths said their decision was based on what they described as the performance, commitment to service and developmental initiatives of the political leaders.

The motion for the endorsement was moved by Barr. Anietie Bassey of Ward 10 and seconded by Barr. Aniebiet Archibong of Ward 9.

Declaring the gathering open, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Inyang George, said the meeting was convened to endorse the candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

George said the decision followed an assessment of the candidates’ performances and contributions to the development of the people and the state.

Responding to the endorsement, Hon. Moses Essien, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Nutrition and Food Security, expressed appreciation to the organisers and participants for their support.

Essien, who spoke on behalf of the other endorsed candidates, commended the youths, elders and women of the area for coming together to demonstrate their confidence in the candidates.

He thanked the organisers for the endorsement, saying the confidence reposed in them would further encourage the political leaders to do more for the people.

On the administration of President Tinubu, Essien described his performance as commendable, while also praising Governor Umo Eno for what he described as significant achievements across Akwa Ibom State.

He cited projects and interventions including Grace Estate, Ibom Medical City, Ikpanaya Road, Use-Ikot-Amama Road, the Model Primary School at Ikot Ekop and support for the Mother and Child Specialist Hospital, among other initiatives in Ibiono Ibom.

Earlier, in his welcome address and keynote remarks, the President of the Central Ibiono Ibom Youth Movement, Comrade Ekemini-abasi Udoh, said the youths had carefully assessed the leadership and developmental efforts of the endorsed candidates before arriving at their decision.

Udoh said the youth were determined to make a deliberate choice concerning their future, stressing that continuity was necessary where leaders had demonstrated commitment to development.

In their goodwill messages, Sir John Udoh commended Hon. Moses Essien and declared support for the second-term bid of all the endorsed APC candidates.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Agness Udoh assured that women in the area would support Essien’s return to the State House of Assembly alongside the other endorsed candidates.

The APC Chapter Chairman in Ibiono Ibom, Comrade Ime Imeh Ikpong, assured members that the party would work towards ensuring the success of its candidates across the local government area.

Representing political stakeholders from Northern Ibiono Ibom, Mr. Ndueso Akpan described Essien’s advocacy as “superb” and his leadership as visionary.

Similarly, the President of Ibiono Ibom Village Youth, Akparawa Edem Christ, pledged the support of the youth for all the endorsed APC candidates, particularly Hon. Essien, whom he commended for what he described as exceptional leadership.

Also speaking, the former Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Ekomabasi Akpan, declared his support for the APC candidates and called on others to support their re-election.

The Leader of the Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Idorenyin Umoren, also said the Eastern mandate had declared its support for the endorsed APC candidates.

The gathering was attended by political leaders, stakeholders, youth and women, including the President of IBIYODED, Prince Godwin Asanga; former IBIYODED President, Akparawa Imo Ekong (Pa Imo Udoekong); Mr. Gregory Okon, Councillor representing Ibiono Ibom Central II; Hon. Uwem Usuah; Hon. Edet Nse, Director-General of EnwongoAbasi Campaign Organisation; Hon. Bassey Eyibio; Rt. Hon. Godwin Ekpenyong, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Mobilisation; Akparawa Emmanuel Edem; Hon. Peter Donald; Mr. Umana Idorenyin; Hon. Blessing Daniel; Prince Diamond Usoro; Mr. Asuquo; Dr. David Umoh, JP; Pharm. Abasiama Uwatt; among others.

The endorsement comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the youth movement pledging to mobilise support for the endorsed candidates.
