The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan joined the number two citizen of the State, Mr Moses Ekpo MFR to receive a delegation of the International Community of Red Cross during their visit to the office of the Deputy Governor.

Speaking, Mr Moses Ekpo, lauded the group for the visit, saying that, this was the first time Red Cross is visiting the Government to discuss matters.

His words: "this is the beginning of a new relationship which will be nurtured. We will always call on the Red Cross to come to our help in the areas of relief materials and the aids of women and children matters''

The Deputy Governor also appreciated the Governor of the state, His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for his tremendous support and management of emergencies in the State.

Head of Sub-delegation, International Community of Red Cross, Madam Joelle Ellachkar stated they have covered 11 States in the country.

She said their work is to monitor the situation of violence in the area and offer support to civilians.

According to her, currently in Akwa Ibom, they have been to Ini local government Area Mbo and Oruk Anam where they monitored the situation and provided assistance to the communities affected in the clashes.

Also present at the meeting were: Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Dr. Augustine Umoh, Commissioner, Ministry Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno James Ibanga, Jack Iyenemi, Standfast Humanitarian Affairs ICRC, Joachin Uche Generalist Field ICRC, Port Harcourt.
