AKWA IBOM @ 39: A JOURNEY OF FAITH, GROWTH AND HOPE

Thirty-nine years ago, Akwa Ibom State was created, giving our people a home and a platform to build a future we could proudly call our own.

Today, as we celebrate Akwa Ibom @ 39, we celebrate the people, the farmers, teachers, traders, professionals, entrepreneurs, workers, young people and families whose everyday efforts continue to make our state what it is.

We also remember and appreciate the leaders who have contributed to the growth of Akwa Ibom over the years. Each administration has added its own chapter to our collective story.

Today, under the leadership of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the state continues to witness investments in infrastructure, healthcare, human capital development, empowerment and opportunities for our people. His administration has also marked the 39th anniversary with the planned commissioning of 39 projects across the state.

For me, the most beautiful part of the Akwa Ibom story is our people. We are peaceful, resilient, hardworking and deeply connected to our communities and culture.

At 39, there is still much more to do. We must continue to create opportunities for our young people, support businesses, improve our communities and build a state where every Akwa Ibomite can dream, work and prosper.

As we look towards 40 and beyond, may we continue to build together, appreciate our journey and believe in the possibilities ahead.

GOVERNOR ENO’S AIDE LAUDS NEW COMPASSIONATE HOME FOR OBOT AKARA WIDOW

……Commends Sir Monday Uko, Hon. Simon Dominic Akpan for Grassroots Impact; Mobilises Support for APC Ahead of 2027

The Personal Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Youth Affairs, Comrade Amama Aloysius, has lauded Governor Umo Eno for providing a new lease of life for a widow in Obot Akara Local Government Area through the ARISE Compassionate Home initiative.

Comrade Amama, who hails from Nto Edino in Obot Akara, spoke during the commissioning and formal handover of a newly constructed and fully furnished two-bedroom ARISE Compassionate Home to Mrs. Comfort Linus of Nto Omum.

The home, fitted with solar-powered electricity and a borehole, according to the Governor’s aide, represents more than the provision of shelter, describing it as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to restoring dignity, security and hope to vulnerable citizens.

He said the intervention was a clear expression of Governor Eno’s compassionate leadership, stressing that the impact of governance becomes most meaningful when it reaches ordinary citizens and addresses their most pressing needs.

“This is a clear reflection of what compassionate leadership should be. His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, has shown that governance is not only about infrastructure but also about touching lives, restoring dignity and giving hope to people who need it most,” Comrade Amama said.

The Governor’s aide commended the administration for extending the initiative to Obot Akara, noting that the new home would provide Mrs. Linus and her family with a safer and more comfortable environment.

Comrade Amama also acknowledged the political leader of Obot Akara, Rt. Hon. Sir Monday Ebong Uko, for his contributions to political stability, grassroots engagement and the development of the Local Government Area.

He described Sir Monday Uko as an experienced and stabilising political leader whose commitment to peace, unity and mentorship had continued to benefit the people of Obot Akara.

“Sir Monday Uko remains a respected leader in Obot Akara whose experience, wisdom and commitment to the growth of our people continue to inspire many of us. His contribution to political stability, mentorship and grassroots development in our Local Government cannot be overlooked,” he stated.

The Governor’s aide equally commended the Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Simon Dominic Akpan, for his grassroots-oriented leadership and efforts towards advancing development across the Local Government.

He noted that the progress of Obot Akara would require sustained cooperation among political leaders, government officials, traditional institutions, youths and other stakeholders, urging the people to support initiatives that directly improve their lives.

Comrade Amama expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for the opportunity to serve and for bringing the ARISE Compassionate Home intervention to his home Local Government, describing the gesture as a memorable example of responsive governance.

He further called on the people, particularly youths, to remain united and peaceful while supporting the administration’s development agenda, stressing that sustainable progress could only be achieved through collective commitment to the common good.

As part of his support for grassroots empowerment, the Governor’s aide also presented a brand-new sewing machine to Rose Michael, providing her with an opportunity to strengthen her tailoring business and improve her livelihood.

AMAMA ALOYSIUS PARTICIPATES IN SSDC STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT WITH AKWA IBOM YOUTHS

The Personal Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Comrade Amama Aloysius on the September 15, 2026 participated in a stakeholders’ engagement convened by the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, alongside youth leaders and representatives from across the State.

The engagement, led by the Akwa Ibom State Representative on the SSDC Governing Board, Hon. Chief Nkereuwem Christopher Ebong, KSJI, provided an important platform for young people and youth stakeholders to gain deeper insight into the mandate and development agenda of the Commission, exchange perspectives, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

During the engagement, discussions focused on critical areas of youth development, including skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, employment, human capital development, innovation and the creation of sustainable economic opportunities for young people across the South-South region.

Comrade Amama Aloysius noted that meaningful youth development must go beyond government interventions to include deliberate efforts to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, networks and opportunities required to become productive contributors to society and the economy.

He further stressed the importance of ensuring that the aspirations, ideas and concerns of young people remain central to development planning, noting that young people should be positioned not merely as beneficiaries of development programmes, but as active partners in shaping the future of their communities and the region.

Comrade Amama commended the SSDC for deliberately engaging the youth constituency and creating a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing and strategic collaboration.

He also acknowledged the youth-focused leadership of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, particularly his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for young people through programmes and initiatives aligned with the ARISE Agenda.

According to him, the efforts of the Governor, through the Ministry of Youth Development and other relevant institutions, continue to provide avenues for youth empowerment, capacity building, innovation and participation in the State’s development process.

He encouraged Akwa Ibom youths to take advantage of emerging opportunities, acquire relevant skills, build strategic partnerships and actively participate in development initiatives at the State, regional and national levels.

He emphasized that the future of Akwa Ibom and the South-South region requires the active participation of young people, stressing that sustainable development must be built with young people and not merely for them.

The engagement concluded with a renewed emphasis on collaboration, youth inclusion, capacity development and strategic partnerships towards advancing opportunities for young people across Akwa Ibom State and the wider South-South region.

FROM A CASH GIFT TO A SCHOLARSHIP — GLAP MAKING A DIFFERENCE

During my visit a couple of days ago to the ongoing GLAP Free Holiday Classes, I was deeply impressed by the presentation of one of our students, Miss Uduak OFONMBUK Monday.

Her confidence, intelligence, and impressive delivery stood out, and I immediately promised her a cash gift in appreciation of her effort. However, after reflecting on it, my spirit prompted me to do something more meaningful and lasting.

I have therefore decided, God willing, that the cash gift will become a full scholarship opportunity. Together with my team, we will take responsibility for her tuition fees throughout this phase of her academic pursuit, so she can continue to learn, grow, and reach her full potential.

This is what GLAP - Grassroots Literacy Advancement Programme is all about: identifying potential, encouraging excellence, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive.

A special appreciation to the teachers in our public schools who continue to give their best every day, often under challenging circumstances. Your dedication to shaping the next generation does not go unnoticed.
