Redemption FM Partners Ministry of Justice to Amplify GBV Awareness

Redemption 101.5 FM has agreed to partner with the Ministry of Justice in programming media messages to help curb the occurrence of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the State.

The partnership was entered into on Thursday, May 28, 2025, during a courtesy visit by Members of the Ministry of Justice and the Coalition Against Gender-Based Violence.

Leading the team, the Director of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Department, Barr. Emem Ette, said the essence of the visit was to intimate the management of the Station on activities for the GBV Awareness Month and to celebrate the Five Years of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in the State.

Barr Emem Ette who highlighted the evolving nature of GBV, cited disturbing cases of organ harvesting and barbaric actions, emphasising the need for collaboration.

"GBV has gone past r**e, spousal battery, forceful ejection from home; it is now the killing of people for organs harvesting and other barbaric reasons. More worrisome is the latest case of a minor killing two other minors.

"This is the reason we are going round to forge this partnership with Organisations like yours; to see areas we can work together to amplify the messages against GBV and reach more persons through your radio station", said Barr Emem Ette.

Assuring the team of the Station's collaboration, the Managing Director and Acting CEO of Redemption 101.5 FM, Comfort Umanah decried the lack of cultural values in families; a great influence, paving and enabling GBV.

She assured that Redemption FM would continue to support the cause through jingles and other programming, whilst urging the Ministry to remain vigilant in advocating against GBV.

Present at the meeting, the General Manager of Redemption FM, Mrs. Elsie Udofia commended the Ministry for partnering with media organisations, acknowledging the crucial role of media in shaping discourse and promoting a safe society. She also assured of Redemption FM's continuous partnership in the fight against GBV.
