WHAT THE HEART WANTS đź’“đź’•đź’•
[Charity Case]
Hazel POV
Sunlight seeping through the glass of the window of my room waking me. Narrowing my eye, I watched the time on my mobile screen.
Groaning, I bolted out of my bed and with the slowest speed possible, made my way towards the bathroom.
Finishing my morning routine, a gasps escaped my lips as I watched my reflection in the mirror. My thick blonde hair looked like a bird nest flying in every direction. There was a big dark circles around my eye due to the lack of sleep. There was also a huge pimple on my nose making me more "attractive" than I already was.
Changing into a blue cardigan and an old worn out jeans, I lifted my bag from my study table and put my notebooks in it.
As I walked to the kitchen, the aroma of pancakes filled my nostrils. Slouching down the dining table, I looked at my brother as he set two pancake on the plate and poured a chocolate mix on it.
"Here sis, straight out of Chef Alex kitchen" he bow as he place the plate before me.
"You don't have school today Cinderella", Narrowing my eyes, I teased him as he whined as a result.
"How many times have I told you not to call me that again?"
"Well not my fault, you used to dress up like her in your childhood". I laughed as I earn a glare from my little brother.
"Well in reply to your earlier question, summer vacation are starting this week.
Your memory is getting weaker day by day. I guess I should start stocking almonds." I heard him complain as I devoured the piece of heaven placed before me.
"By the way, you looked like mess. Have you been sleeping properly?” he inquired in a worried tone.
"Yeah, I have a test before summer vacation. And due to summer, the café is getting a great deal of customers." I said in an exhausted tone.
I worked as a waitress in a local Café in our area. The income was not much, but it helped paying Alex's school fee.
"Why don't you let me get a job too? You know Gregg's dad could use a little help in his garage." He insisted cleaning the table while I wash my hands.
“No Alex, just focus on your studies. You don’t have to worry about our financial issues. I’m your big sister. I can deal with these problems.” I replied as I slung the bag over my shoulder.
*********
Bam.
I cursed loudly as the ball hit me while I was running towards the auditorium.
Turning around, I found Derek Archer, the most popular and rich guy in our college, standing I front of me, a huge smirk set on his lips.
“Pass the ball, Charity case.” He taunted as his golden hair-locks fell on his forehead, his blue eyes filled with mischief.
Using my full force, I shoved the ball towards him which landed right on his stomach.
Moaning in pain, he clenched his eyes shut as I walked towards him slowly.
“Good morning to you too, Daddy’s little spoilt brat.” I said, spouting my lips as his nostrils flared with anger.
“You will pay for it, Hazel Martin.” Glaring at me, he said through gritted teeth.
“Really, as you said, I am really a charity case. How do you expect me to pay it?” Turning my lips downwards, I mumbled innocently.
“Bitch.” He called, walking away.
“Man-whore.” I shouted behind him as people surrounding us started laughing.
………….
Entering the classroom, I looked for a seat as most the seats were occupied by students. I heard someone call my name and I looked towards the owner of the voice, only to find my best friends Sarah and Lily waving at me.
“Thanks for saving me a seat.” I thanked while sitting between them.
“Hey, we heard you had another fight with Derek. What did he do this time?” Sarah asked repacking her hair to a loose bun over her head.
“Yep. Same reason. He called me a charity case again and you know I am not the one to back down easily.” I mumbled slowly, taking out of my notebook from my bag as the professor entered.
I was used to people calling me names because I was a scholarship student but guess what losers, I am proud of myself. I don’t need my parent money to pay for my education.
After high school, I wanted to go to Harvard for management studies. I even got admission there on the basis of grade. But, I couldn’t afford ’their tuition fee. So when a college in my city offered me scholarship, I couldn’t turn down their offer. Besides, I couldn’t leave fifteen years old Alex alone at that time.
“You did the right thing. Derek is a jerk. If were in your place, he would have landed in the hospital.” Lily said angrily, the veins in her neck popped out.
“He isn’t that bad. He is just… well he is in bad company.” Sarah whispered and Lily and I gave her a threatening glare.
Sarah and Lily were my best friends since the first day of college. Sarah was shy and soft-spoken. With long, wavy brown hair and blue eyes, she was easily one of the most beautiful girls in our class wanted her but she rejected everyone, as she just wanted to focus on her studies for now.
Whereas Lily was her complete opposite, she had jet black hair and brown eyes. There is a tiger tattoo on the side of her dominating personality. She had punched was longer than the list of flavors of my favorite foods.
After the class finished, I walked towards the canteen with Sarah to buy some coffee. My head was pounding because of the little sleep I was getting now-a-days. Just few more days, then summer vacations would start and I could have a break from this exhausting routine.
A gasp erupted from beside me as our eyes landed on Derek Archer, shoving his tongue down college’s slt Elena Parke's throat. I mentally gagged as we watched him tightening his hands around her ass. They both suited each other though as they both had been a pain in my ass since high school. They were the exact definition of a bully but Hazel Martin is never the one to succumb to such sh*theads.
“Wow, college’s slt and man-whore, both sucking each other faces. That’s a sight I’ll always remember.” I exclaimed in a loud voice. They both pulled apart after hearing my voice.
“Well, who is it? Our blonde charity case and her ugly duckling.” He said, casting an annoying glance towards Sarah.
Turning towards her, I watched her eyes fill with tears.
“She is far prettier than your plastic bimbo. By the way, how did your nose job go Elena? I guess you should ask for your money back. I can’t see any difference.” I asked making an innocent face and Elena’s face contorted in an ugly manner.
Leaving them sulking in a corner, I gripped Sarah’s arm and led her towards the café.
“It was so rude of you.” Sarah aid.
“Whatever.” I rolled my eyes.
“You didn’t have to do that?” she said softly.
“Why? Just because you have a major crush on that jerk doesn’t mean I’ll not shut his mouth.” I said, frowning s her eyes widened like a saucer.
“I don’t have crush on him.” She whined loudly as I mimicked her chirpy voice.
“Yeah whatever.” I said, rolling my eyes.

Am very sorry for the late post. My laptop was faulty and I have to start over again. Hope you all understand sha…..
So guys, how’s the first chapter?
One thing is not a college romance. There will be a very little mention of her friends and other college characters in the later chapter. I just wanted to let everyone know about her lifestyle and her attitude towards others.
