5TH LAKE CHAD BASIN GOVERNORS' FORUM
The Executive Governor of Adamawa State His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri alongside Dr. Maurice Vunobolki the lead Consultant of the FGN/World Bank North East Multisectoral Crisis Recovery Project, Adamawa State Project Coordination Unit as well as diverse group of stakeholders, including Governors, representatives from State and National Governments across the four Lake Chad Basin member states, regional economic communities, local and national civil society organizations, UN agencies, national and international NGOs, financial and technical partners, gathered at the 5th Edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum . Under the theme "Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community," the forum aimed to develop strategies for addressing regional instability and promoting greater collaboration.
The event was hosted by the Yobe State Government in Maiduguri, Borno State, to explore pathways for sustainable peace and development and address critical challenges facing the region.
The President, Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ably represented by the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria His Ecellency Senator Kashim Shettima GCON, representative of the Senate President, Members of the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council, Governors of the region, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State (host), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri CON of Adamawa State, Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, Lidjima Abdraman of Hadjer-Lamis, Brig. Gen. Mohamadou Ibrahim of Diffa, Midjiyawa Bakari of the Far North Region, Abate Edi’i Jean of the North Region, and Gen. Saleh Haggar Tidjani of the Province of Lac are in attendance.
Also present are some Members of the Adamawa State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries, traditional rulers such as Amma Shelleng, HRH Alh. Abdullahi Isa Dasong, Mbege Ka Michika, Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga, and Ardo Zumo Alh. Mahmud Suleiman Zumo, along with other notable figures from the region.
The forum which serves as a platform for humanitarian, development, and peace actors, as well as donors and security personnel, to engage in direct dialogue and create concrete, actionable plans for stabilizing the region, will guide efforts to support the region’s recovery and long-term development.
Dr. Maurice is optimistic that the forum will open new avenues for deeper cooperation and sustainable development throughout the region.
