European Christian Political Party The European Christian Political Party (ECPP) is the only explicitly Christian party in the EP.

We are a European party, a coalition of Christian-democratic parties and organisations, active at all different political levels in Europe. The ECPP is not affiliated to one of the groups in the European Parliament. In short, we stand for:

Ukraine's resistance is crucial for the security of Europe. We are safe as long as Ukraine holds out. For ECPP, peace and security in Europe are vital. But peace must be just, says ECPP President Valeriu Ghilețchi.

We need to achieve a just peace in Ukraine and make sure that Ukraine's territorial integrity is preserved.

A 13-year-old Christian girl abducted, forced to convert to Islam, and forced to marry her captor. The case of Maria Shahbaz shocked the European Parliament into action — but what can Europe actually do? ✝️

ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen, initiator of the European Parliament's urgency resolution on Pakistan, sits down with Márton Gyöngyösi to explain what the resolution means in practice and what concrete tools the EU has to hold Pakistan accountable.

Because Maria's case is not an isolated one. Every year, hundreds of girls are abducted and forced into marriage in Pakistan.

Is there a real difference between altruistic and commercial surrogacy?

In this exchange, MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen asks Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls, who spoke at a European Parliament hearing on surrogacy, this very question. Her answer is clear: the distinction is just for show.

🗣'Even where it's called "altruistic surrogacy", the payment is hidden and embedded in the amount given as a maintenance allowance,' she says.

Where altruistic surrogacy is permitted but commercial surrogacy is prohibited, structural problems persist, and very few women come forward voluntarily. The reason is simple: payment is what drives vulnerable and impoverished women into surrogacy.

ECPP is firmly opposed to all forms of surrogacy, as it reduces people to commodities and violates their human dignity.

European fishermen deserve rules that actually work. The landing obligation must be reversed, and the ban on pulse fishing lifted. Pulse fishing reduces fuel consumption and promotes more selective fishing.

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on Pakistan, initiated by ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen. He explains what the resolution is about and why it is important!

Maria Shahbaz, a 13-year-old Christian girl, was abducted, forced to convert to Islam, and forced to marry a much older Muslim man. Her family, part of the Christian minority, is powerless. Her case is not an isolated one. Beyond that, blasphemy laws continue to put Christians at risk, with some wrongly accused and sentenced to death.

The EU does business with Pakistan — and Pakistan has promised to respect human rights in return. The resolution calls on the EU to exert maximum pressure on Pakistani authorities to end the abduction, forced conversion, and forced marriage of girls.

Pakistan made a promise. The EU must hold it to that promise.

ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen spoke in the European Parliament on the case of Maria Shahbaz, a Pakistani Christian girl who was abducted, forced to convert to Islam, and forced into marrying a Muslim man. This degrading practice violates freedom of religion, children's rights, parents' rights, and the right to liberty and security.

A European Parliament resolution makes an urgent appeal to Pakistani authorities to put an end to forced marriages and to grant Maria Shahbaz the freedom to return to her family.

MEP Ruissen also sends a clear message on trade: Pakistan must fully respect the rights of minorities.

🗣 "The attacks and abductions continue unabated and are only growing in intensity. We must not stand idly by."

ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen took the floor in the European Parliament to condemn the latest atrocities in Nigeria. ✝️🕊️

Dozens of Christians were killed in an attack by extremists in the village of Kawel. Dozens of schoolchildren were recently abducted in Borno State. And the violence shows no sign of stopping.

Nigeria must face up to the problem, protect its people more effectively, and punish the perpetrators. But MEP Ruissen also urges EU action, such as support for the training of Nigerian police officers.

Given the escalating violence, Europe cannot look away.
