Henny Jurriëns Studio

Henny Jurriëns Studio Europe's leading training center for dance professionals HJS is not a school or an academy, nor is it associated with a specific company.

The Henny Jurriëns Studio (HJS) was established in 1995 in order to provide open training for professional-level dancers. The namesake of the foundation, the late Henny Jurriëns, was one of The Netherlands best known and loved dancers. HJS offers both classical ballet and contemporary dance classes throughout the year, as well as periodic workshops concentrating on specific styles of dance or danc

e-related bodywork. HJS plays a central role in the freelance professional dance community in Amsterdam and strives to serve it by providing a regular program of classes which stimulate, challenge and maintain the technical level of the dancers. The studio serves also as a networking and information center where audition, performance, workshop and housing notices are posted regularly. HJS is a partner of the JULIdans Festival, and collaborates with all of the major dance companies and Academies in the Netherlands. The Henny Jurriëns Studio is grateful for the financial support it receives from both the national government and the city of Amsterdam.

“I open up my classes for people to try out other lenses of approaching the familiar vocabulary of ballet, to find their excellence and freedom. Instead of aiming to be good at the exercises, why not use them to paint the space and speak poignantly through the alphabet of tendus, pliés, enveloppés, pirouettes, etc…? Let’s exercise our playground of possibilities as artists and be poets and musicians of movement.”✨

Trained at the National Ballet School of Canada and Rotterdamse Dansacademie, Pui has danced with IT Dansa and Göteborgs Operans Baletten. He has toured to the Kennedy Center and The Barbican Centre, worked as a rehearsal director, and recently choreographed for Irina Jane Brook at Teatro alla Scala. Parallel to dance, Pui is a Feldenkrais and JKA teacher.

The workshop focuses on grounding the body to build elasticity, strength, and release, allowing energy to flow freely between internal and external expansion. Through guided improvisation and learning repertory from Marcat Dance, dancers explore shifting qualities of movement, dynamic texture, and musicality. Physical and vocal play encourage participants to follow inner impulses while listening to themselves and the group. The workshop encourages awareness, confidence, and individuality, inviting dancers to discover both their vulnerabilities and the light they carry within🌩️

Catherine Coury is Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Marcat Dance, one of Spain’s leading contemporary dance companies, and Festival Vildanza, an international dance festival bringing world-class work to rural southern Spain. Her work with Marcat Dance has earned multiple “Best Female Dancer” awards and three consecutive Spanish Academy Award nominations (2023–2025).

Rachelle Anaïs Scott is a French-American dancer and choreographer from New York City, currently performing with Theater Basel under the direction of Marco Goecke. In 2026 Rachelle has upcoming commission work for Bern Ballet as well as NDT2’s Up & Coming Choreographers.

The ‘Creative Lab’ offers an immersive experience into Rachelle’s choreographic language of organic, visceral movement. Combining repertoire excerpts with new material, dancers engage physically and creatively. Emphasis is on physicality, grounded flow, and shifting between raw intensity and subtle nuance. Dancers push limits while staying connected to clarity, rhythm, and presence, opening space for exploration, embodiment, and a deeper understanding of performance🤩

Next up: 3 days, 3 masterclasses, 3 incredible women⚡

Merel Lammers: The masterclass will consist of guided improvisation and exercises using imagery following specific tasks to explore the possibilities of one’s own physicality, the joy of moving, connection to music and embodiment of a broad range of movement qualities. You will learn short phrases to try to embody everything we practise during the improvisation.
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟯𝟬 | 𝟭𝟰:𝟬𝟬 - 𝟭𝟲:𝟬𝟬

: The masterclass begins with a guided improvisation, and then explores choreographic works, energetic practices and meditation. “Embodying inner worlds, holding space for authentic expression, creating movement poetry. Seeking power in our fluidity”.
𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭 | 𝟭𝟰:𝟬𝟬 - 𝟭𝟲:𝟬𝟬

: The workshop begins with guided improvisation to introduce the movement language. From there, I share set phrases that we refine together. Once the material is established, we expand on it through creating solos, duets, and group sections, ending with a more playful exploration of each participant’s creativity and artistry.

In this workshop you will discover the repertory work of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui through the lens of Jonas Vandekerckhove. You will dive into the complexity, technique, and performativity of the movement vocabulary, as much as how we compose and create within the specific artistic environment. From individual theatricality to collective dancing, we aim to find a common language which is expressed in multitude of different ways

As a long-standing member of Eastman, he performed in productions including Nomad, Vlaemsch (chez-moi). Alongside performing, he develops his own collaborative work, spanning stage and film🌟
