No Nuclear reactors in Groningen
Volt is not fundamentally opposed to nuclear energy.
As part of a future-proof energy mix, we do not rule out any energy source in advance.
But on one point we are clear: no nuclear power plants in Groningen.
The Reason?
Decades of gas extraction and the way the people of Groningen have been treated by The Hague have left deep scars. In addition to the physical damage, a major societal and psychological trauma has emerged.
Groningen’s carrying capacity has been put to the test for years. Therefore, we believe that a nuclear power plant, no matter how safely it can be designed, is too great a mental burden for our residents.
If the Netherlands opts for nuclear energy, a location must be found in a region where this societal carrying capacity is indeed present.
For Volt, that is not Groningen.
