Alright everyone, today officially marks the first day of our Summer Reading Program. Long story short, sign up at brunssumlibrary.beanstack.org, log your minutes, and earn fun prizes! Please note that prize pickup will not start until after our Kickoff Party on June 20th.

This year's theme is all about plants, and we have a wide range of fun activities for you beginning with a week of famous plants starting June 22nd, and then a week on farming starting June 29th! We have plenty more beyond that though with activities every week through the beginning of August, all of which you can find attached here to this post.

Now, for those of you who want to dig into the details:

Registration!
1. First, you sign up for a profile with beanstack. Make sure you register for the JFC Brunssum Library challenge (brunssumlibrary.beanstack.org)! There are multiple challenges out there, and the minutes you log for one challenge do not automatically carry over to other challenges.
2. Adults and teens are heavily encouraged to log their minutes read--you guys earn prizes too, including a chance to win one of our Grand Prizes!
3. For kids, parents will create their profile and then register their kids as readers under that profile. This allows the parents to log minutes and help keep track of everything.
4. If you run into any trouble, don't hesitate to come in, give us a call, or send an email. We'll be glad to assist!

Minutes!
1. What counts and doesn't count? Whatever way you choose to engage your mind in the art of reading, that's what counts. Do you enjoy the traditional chapter book? Perfect! Do you prefer graphic novels? Those absolutely count! Audiobooks? That's a great way to get minutes on the morning commute! We trust you to be reasonable about what counts.
2. Forgot to log your minutes or didn't register on day one? Not a problem! Beanstack will allow you to backlog your minutes up until the end of the challenge. Absolutely be sure to go back and log whatever minutes you know you read from June 1st onward, even if you started later.
3. Does it have to be English? No! Feel free to read whatever language you prefer--in fact, we encourage it!

Prizes!
1. You'll earn a milestone badge and be notified each time you earn a new prize in Beanstack. Once you've hit that milestone, come to the library (after the Kickoff Party) to pick up your prizes.
2. Prizes are while supplies last! Don't worry, we've tried to carefully order enough that our prizes should last, but even if we run out we'll make sure you won't leave empty handed. If there is a prize you really, really want though, don't delay!
3. Once you earn all of your milestone prizes, you'll start earning entries into the Grand Prize raffle. Each age group has their own grand prize. The more you read, the more tickets you'll earn, and the better your chances of winning.
4. This year, we will also have a separate raffle for those who attend each week's in-person activities and events. Each week you come in, you'll earn an entry into this extra raffle. This is a bonus on top of the other prizes!
5. Lastly, the reader in each age group with the most minutes at the end of the program will earn a special achievement prize recognizing their hard work and passion for reading. If you want to win this special recognition, make sure to read often! Last year's winners easily exceeded 10,000 minutes, so you'll need to do a lot of reading it you want the top spot!

June is here! And summer is right around the corner. Our Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party will be Saturday June 20th, but you can already start logging your minutes as of TODAY at brunssumlibrary.beanstack.org. Every week after our kickoff, we'll have a whole new set of fun programs, events, and activities for you, so stay tuned!

Some notes on the schedule:
- We'll be closing at 1800 on June 3rd
- June 19th will be our last Lego day before the summer. As we shift our resources over to Summer Reading, we'll pause our lego sets until the end of summer.
- Regular programs--storytime, sewing, and Dutch Conversations--will all be paused during Summer Reading for the same reasons.

We have two more days of Fairies and Lightsabers! We will be closed Thursday, but we'll be here Wednesday until 2000 and on Friday until 1800.

We've really enjoyed all the wonderful fairies and knights here at the library this past week, and we hope to see more! Also, for those passionate about scavenger hunts, we have an all new hunt this week with fun fairy prizes. So be sure to swing by, earn a prize, and grab some magical books!

Alright everyone, Monday is the kickoff for two weeks of Fairies and Star Wars, a crossover for the whole family. We'll have two separate scavenger hunts, one for each week, as well as fairy crown and lightsaber crafting, fairy wing decorating, and of course a selfie station. Mix and match themes however you please!

As for the month ahead, May is a busy one for holidays here. We've already had Labor Day, which is then followed by Liberation Day on the 5th, Ascension Day on the 14th, and Whit Monday on the 25th. That said, there won't be another official holiday until August, and after that nothing until Christmas.

Since the holidays head off our usual Saturday schedule, we will be open on the 2nd Saturday, May 9th. We hope to see you then!

In the mean time, hopefully everyone is enjoying the warm weather and sunshine as we move through the height of Spring and press onward toward Summer!

We appreciate everyone who came out to our Lego Master Builder's Challenge back on March 15th. We had some excellent and creative builds this year, including a dragon powered house, a neighborhood powered by play, and even an experiment in pterodactyl power! For those of you who missed out this year, keep your eyes out as we'll be doing it all over again next year with new themes and new ideas!

Easter has arrived at the library! With Spring officially here, and the flowers and trees starting to bloom, the time has come for Bunnies, Easter Eggs, and More!

This week and next week, be sure to stop by the library to craft your own Easter pom-pom companions. You can make a simple chickadee or little bunny, or if you're more ambitious you can attempt to craft your own themed bunny like our Fairy and Star Wars bunnies.

We also have egg decorating, and of course a scavenger hunt with some Easter treasure awaiting those who take on the challenge.

We hope to see you all at the library!

A quick note for Monday! Unfortunately our story time will be cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience!
