How does the world outside shape the world inside your mind?

Join us for an evening exploring the intersection of global politics and mental health through the perspectives of three speakers.

A geopolitics expert breaks down current global tensions, a psychologist explores the impact of uncertainty and news fatigue, and a former student shares their personal experience.

Een geopolitiek expert bespreekt actuele wereldwijde spanningen, een psycholoog gaat in op de impact van onzekerheid en nieuwsmoeheid, en een oud-student deelt een persoonlijk verhaal.

🍊 #1 - Femke van den Berg 🍊

Hey, I’m Femke! I am currently finishing up my bachelors degree in medicine and I am the proud candidate faction chair of SOG!

I have loved medicine since I started, but with just lectures and exams, my student life was incomplete. So on top of my studies I started taking on new challenges: from doing committees to doing volunteer work. During these activities I realised that you learn the most important lessons outside of the lecture halls. The meetings you have, the events you organise, but also the problems and conflicts you run into.

This all makes me very passionate about fighting for a university where ALL active students can feel at home. A university where it’s possible to join an association, to take care of relatives, to have a job or even do sports competitively.

A vote for me is a vote for active student life in Groningen!

Hi! Ik ben Femke, ik ben op dit moment bezig met het afronden van mijn bachelor geneeskunde en daarnaast ben ik de trotse kandidaatsfractievoorzitter van SOG!

Mijn studie vind ik ontzettend leuk, maar mijn studentenleven hier in Groningen was niet compleet met alleen studeren. Al vrij snel begon ik dingen op te pakken naast mijn studie, van commissies tot vrijwilligerswerk. Dit liet mij realiseren dat je de belangrijkste lessen van je studententijd niet in de collegebanken leert, maar juist daarbuiten!

Dit alles maakt mij super gepassioneerd om te vechten voor een universiteit waar ALLE actieve studenten zich thuis voelen. Of je nou lid bent bij een vereniging, mantelzorger bent, een bijbaan hebt of competitief sport.

Een stem voor mij is een stem voor het actieve studentenleven in Groningen!

🍊 #2 - Daniël Hissink 🍊

Hi everyone, I’m Daniël, a second-year student of International Business and European Languages and Cultures, and the candidate Vice-Chair for SOG for the coming year.

For me, studying is about more than just academics; alongside my studies, I am actively involved in a student association and my study association MARUG. I believe every student deserves such enriching and formative experiences. That is why, in the coming year, I aim to advocate for active students and for a university that effectively facilitates and encourages this engagement.

I want to make a dedicated effort to support students with strong and creative ideas by promoting accessible entrepreneurial hubs and advisory and support services. I also consider it essential that the university remains robust and financially sustainable for future generations of students. Finally, I would like to increase awareness of the University Council among students.

A vote for me, and thereby for SOG, is a vote for the active and entrepreneurial student. Feel free to approach me if you see me around with any questions:)

Hai allemaal, ik ben Daniël, tweedejaars student International Business en Europese Talen en Cultuur, en kandidaat vicevoorzitter voor SOG aankomend jaar.

Voor mij is studeren meer dan alleen mijn studie. Naast mijn opleiding ben ik actief bij een studentenvereniging en mijn studievereniging MARUG. Ik gun iedere student zulke waardevolle en leerzame ervaringen. Komend jaar wil ik mij daarom inzetten voor actieve studenten en voor een universiteit die dit goed faciliteert en actief aanmoedigt.

Daarnaast wil ik mij specifiek inzetten om studenten met sterke en creatieve ideeën te ondersteunen, onder andere door toegankelijke ondernemershubs en duidelijke advies- en ondersteuningspunten. Ook vind ik het belangrijk dat de universiteit financieel gezond en toekomstbestendig blijft voor volgende generaties studenten. Tot slot wil ik ervoor zorgen dat de Universiteitsraad meer bekendheid krijgt onder studenten.

Een stem op mij, en daarmee op SOG, is een stem voor de actieve en ondernemende student. Spreek me vooral aan als je me tegenkomt met vragen:)

🍊 #3 - Elize Verkouter 🍊

Hi! I’m Elize, 23 years old, Master’s student IT Law and a member of the Faculty Council of Law. Throughout my time as a student I’ve always been active besides my studies. I joined a student association, participated in committees and was a board member. This showed me how valuable it is to be active besides your studies. What I love about Groningen is that there’s a place for everyone that fits them. In these uncertain times, I believe it’s important that this space continues to exist. That is why I chose to run for the University Council on behalf of SOG.

As well as having the freedom to develop yourself alongside your studies, I believe it is important that studying is made as enjoyable as possible for everyone. Everyone should be able to feel at home during their time at the RUG. Over the coming year, I will work hard to make as many positive changes as possible.

A vote for me is a vote the active student and for a university where everyone feels at home!

Hee! Ik ben Elize, 23 jaar, masterstudent IT-recht en zit in de faculteitsraad van rechten. In mijn studententijd ben ik altijd actief geweest naast mijn studie. Ik ben lid geworden bij een studentenvereniging, doe commissies en heb een bestuur gedaan. Zo heb ik ervaren hoe waardevol het is om actief te zijn naast je studie. Het mooie aan Groningen vind ik dat er voor iedereen een plek is die bij hun past. In de huidige tijden waar onzekerheid heerst vind ik het daarom belangrijk dat hier ruimte voor blijft bestaan. Daarom heb ik mijzelf verkiesbaar gesteld namens SOG voor de universiteitsraad.

Naast vrijheid om je te ontwikkelen naast je studie, vind ik het belangrijk dat studeren zo prettig mogelijk gemaakt wordt voor iedereen. Iedereen moet zich thuis kunnen voelen tijdens hun studie aan de RUG. Het komende jaar zal ik me hard maken om zo veel mogelijk positieve veranderingen door te voeren.

Een stem voor mij is een stem voor de actieve student en voor een universiteit waar iedereen zich thuis voelt!

🍊 #4 - Imre Schakelaar 🍊

Hey! My name is Imre Schakelaar and I’m a third-year law and sociology student.
I’m also chair of JS Groningen, a member of the Faculty Council of Law, and I ran as a candidate for GroenLinks-PvdA Groningen.

I advocate for a university where reorganisations and budget cuts do not come at the expense of an active student life. A university where an active student life is encouraged, from volunteering to committee work or association board membership. Because it is the experiences you gain outside the lecture halls that are so important.

There is a lot to be done next year, so it is all the more important that the voice of the active student is represented. That is why I am number 4 on the list for the Groningen Student Organisation (SOG).

A vote for me is a vote for a university where every student feels at home, both inside and outside the lecture halls.

Ha! Mijn naam is Imre Schakelaar en ik ben derdejaars student rechten en sociologie.
Daarnaast ben ik voorzitter bij de JS Groningen, zit ik in de faculteitsraad Rechten en stond ik op de lijst voor GroenLinks-PvdA Groningen.

Ik maak me hard voor een universiteit waar reorganisaties en bezuinigingen niet ten koste gaan van een actief studentenleven. Voor een universiteit waar een actief studentenleven wordt aangemoedigd, van vrijwilligerswerk tot commissie doen of verenigingsbestuur. Omdat juist ervaringen die je buiten de collegebanken opdoet zo belangrijk zijn. 

Er staat veel te gebeuren volgend jaar, en het is dus des te belangrijker dat de stem van de actieve student vertegenwoordigd wordt. Daarom ben ik nummer 4 op de lijst voor de Studenten Organisatie Groningen (SOG).

Een stem op mij is een stem voor een universiteit waar iedere student zich thuisvoelt, buiten de collegezalen en daarbinnen.
