[New Acquisitions for the Leiden University Asian Library]
Orang Jawa memiliki pandangan hidup kejawen.

This Golden Letter, written in Malay in 1856, from the ruler of Johor, Temenggung Ibrahim, to Emperor Napoleon III of France, is a triumph of style over substance, full of friendly words without promising anything else.

Indonesian collections in the Asian Library

Leiden University Library’s Asian Library holds the world’s largest and most diverse collection on Indonesia. The heritage collections of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies, Royal Tropical Institute, together with the University Library’s own material on Southeast Asia stretch over 12 kilometres of shelves. We continue to acquire both modern and older resources on Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries: print and e- studies and journals, databases, ‘grey’ literature, archives, photographs and maps.

The Asian Library reading room is situated on the top floor of the Leiden University Library at the Witte Singel. Next to the Southeast Asia collection, Leiden University includes some of the foremost collections on South and Southeast Asia, China, Japan and Korea.

Leiden University is a major international knowledge hub on Asia. Scholars and students from all over the world come to Leiden to participate in top research and teaching programs on Asia. The Asian Library is a central focal point for study, research and encounters between those with a profound interest in Asia and its position in the world.
