The U.S. brings unique capabilities that no one else can provide. In collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, degrading ISIS’s ability to plan and carry out activities is a testament of our lethality, patience, and skill.

Over the last 250 years, the United States has continuously adapted to meet the challenges of a changing world, a legacy woven into the 27 different versions of our flag.

Just as each new star represented the expansion and resilience of our union, our commitment to global security demands constant evolution. Today, U.S. Africa Command honors that living history by actively adapting to the complex security landscape on the continent— dismantling the terrorist networks that threaten our shared future and relentlessly pursuing stability to enable U.S. and African prosperity.

Did you know that over the last 250 years, the United States has had 27 different versions of its
flag? Since the first design in 1777, each time a new state joined the union a new star was
added to the flag, making it a living symbol of our history and growth.

A major highlight of this year's U.S. Africa Command joint exercise was the historic aerial integration over Morocco. Two U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress bombers joined forces with Royal Moroccan Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons for a series of powerful flyovers.

These strategic flights directly supported Morocco’s first nationally accredited Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) qualification course at Cap Draa. The bomber and fighter integration continued with an impressive, combined flyover during the exercise’s Distinguished Visitor Day.

This integration is more than just a spectacular sight. It signals our shared ability to project combat-credible airpower forward, showcasing flexible deterrence and seamless interoperability alongside our Allies and partners.

Vermont National Guard leaders recently completed a pre-deployment site survey in Thiès, Senegal, coordinating plans for the upcoming Medical Readiness Exercise 2027. By meeting face-to-face with Senegalese healthcare workers, municipal officials, and medical providers, the team assessed regional medical needs to ensure impactful, collaborative training in the future.

“If you’re looking to build trust with a partner, one of the first places you go is in the medical field,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Gene Enriquez, State Partnership Program director with the Vermont National Guard.

This vital effort highlights the enduring strength of the National Guard’s State Partnership Program. The Vermont National Guard and Senegal have been proud partners since 2008, building long-term military, civil, and community relationships—even establishing a sister-city bond between Burlington, VT, and Thiès!

The is about more than training—it’s about enduring bonds that save lives.

During African Lion 26 in El Faid, Morocco, the Utah National Guard and their Moroccan partners reached a historic milestone: the first-ever emergency C-section performed in an expeditionary medical tent.

When a 35-year-old expectant mother arrived in severe distress, the joint team—bolstered by years of trust built through the SPP—acted instantly. Surgeons, nurses, and pediatricians from Utah and Morocco worked shoulder-to-shoulder to successfully deliver and stabilize the newborn. In a moving tribute to this lifelong partnership, the mother named her baby after the surgeon who saved them.

Treating 1,000+ patients daily, this team proves that the SPP isn't just about security; it’s about a shared commitment to communities and a friendship that spans decades.
