It is great to see that the Charles Darwin Foundation using the to expand a small population of an extremely threatened shrub, growing in the middle of nowhere on volcanic rock soil. This is no easy task.

Planted in 2011 as part of Life+ The Green Deserts project, these trees in the Monegros Desert have never received any irrigation.

The have shown a very high survival rate of over 90% with an average annual rainfall of less than 300mm and summer temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius.
The trees are now up to 6m tall!

The world experienced record temperatures, intense-water temperatures, droughts in parts of Africa, Europe and Asia, severe flooding as well as cyclones and devastating wildfires in Greece, northeastern Canada, and Hawaii decimating lives and livelihoods to ash and barren landscapes. The first half of 2023 has been quite something!

Efforts to reduce global emissions aren’t having a great impact yet. Mankind needs to utilize the best available science and technology. Let’s restore 1/3rd of all the degraded land and make it green and product again – and make mankind completely carbon neutral! We address 11 UN SDGs AND stop climate change. Why wait?

De Sahara groeide in de afgelopen eeuw met 10%. Wereldwijd verdwijnt er elk jaar zo’n 24 miljard ton vruchtbare bodem.
Groasis ontwikkelde een planttechnologie om dit land weer groen te maken. Onze oplossingen zijn gemakkelijk schaalbaar, en worden wereldwijd ingezet om de infiltratie van regen in de grond te vergroten; plantgaten te maken die het capillaire systeem intact laten, meststoffen te vervangen, jonge bomen te beschermen tegen zandstormen, hitte, vorst of grazende dieren … en zo succesvol bomen te planten, overal!

De zorgt ervoor dat de plant kan overleven en groeien. Iedere Waterboxx kan worden hergebruikt om wel 20 bomen mee te planten – waardoor de kosten per boom minimaal zijn. 90% lagere kosten, 90% minder water en evengoed 90% overleving – het lijkt wel magie, maar het bewijs is zichtbaar!

Groundbreaking new report shows the fossil fuel and industrial agriculture industries in the Global South are receiving an annual average of 20 times more financing from banks than governments are receiving for climate solutions.

Arthur Larok, Secretary General at ActionAid International, said: “The world’s money is flowing in the wrong direction. This is absurd and must stop.” Instead – money should go towards agroecology: farming and managing crops, livestock, forests and fisheries in a way that works with nature, avoids emissions, is resilient to climate change and sustainable, and offers various other environmental, social and cultural benefits such as addressing food and water scarcity, and poverty.

Groasis is not surprised by this report. It explains why it is so difficult to get our innovative sustainable water-saving or financed in reforestation programs.

Re-greening Uzbekistan’s desertified Aral Sea region. In the 1960s the Aralkum desert didn’t exist and the area was covered by the giant Aral Sea. At the time it was the fourth largest lake in the world, but now it is just a tenth of its former size.
Uzbekistan has been working with international agencies to reverse the desertification that’s long blighted the region.

“Our task is to restore the ecosystem of this region so that such oases are created in other settlements,” Bakhidjan Khabibulaev, the deirector of the International Innovation center for the Aral Sea Basin said.

“The goal is to help counteract the spread of salty sand and prevent soil erosion.”
