What if the sun could reduce food waste and create new income opportunities?☀

In Algeria, Solutech Énergie is doing just that! In collaboration with PUM experts Theo van der Meer, Erik Säuer, Herman Gels and Marc Vorage, the company is developing solar drying solutions to preserve fruits and vegetables using renewable energy.

What started as an online training programme is now growing into a wider network of farmers, entrepreneurs and local organisations putting this knowledge into practice.

♻️ What if stone waste could become part of the next generation of buildings?

That is exactly what entrepreneur Bassem Okasha is working on in Egypt.

His company B-stone developed ProTile: façade panels made from recycled granite and marble waste, combining a natural look with thermal, moisture and sound insulation.
In collaboration with PUM expert Henri van Muijden, B-stone worked on the next phase of growth. Together, they strengthened the business plan, market approach and organisational structure needed to bring ProTile successfully to market.
The progress is already visible. ProTile is fully tested and ready for market entry, B-stone is building its first commercial pipeline, and in June 2026 the product won first place in the MVP Track of the 7th Tatweer Misr Innovation Competition.

By combining practical expertise with entrepreneurship, B-stone is creating new business opportunities from an environmental challenge.

What does it take to turn good milk into stronger livelihoods?
Dairy farmers in northern Peru are working with PUM to strengthen their businesses and livelihoods.

Together with PUM expert Marc Martens, three farmers’ associations representing around 150 small farms are improving animal nutrition, herd health and milk quality, while developing products such as yoghurt and cheese to reach higher-value markets.
The impact goes beyond producing more milk: better quality, more value per litre and new market opportunities for smallholder farmers. And with plans for a pilot dairy facility, the associations aim to share these practices with farmers across the region.

From 5 to 43 employees in just four years!

That’s the remarkable growth of FarmBase Feeds in Kenya, and one of the reasons they were named one of the six winners of the PUM Impact Award 2025.

On 11 August, we had the pleasure of presenting the award to FarmBase Feeds at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nairobi. Since starting its journey with PUM in 2022, FarmBase Feeds has grown from 5 to 43 employees, a powerful example of what knowledge, partnership and entrepreneurship can achieve. In Ghana, Ropah Fashion is combining fashion production with vocational training to create new opportunities for young people.

In collaboration with PUM expert Lise Bossink, the training centre is moving from learning mainly through customer orders towards a structured, competency-based curriculum. Together, they developed new learning modules and trained teachers in practical skills and teaching methods. The collaboration also draws on expertise from ROC van Twente in the Netherlands.

👩‍🏫 20 teachers trained
📈 65% more students in 2026
🎓 52 expected graduates benefitting this year

Through continued remote advice, Lise is now working with Ropah Fashion on the further development of its three-year curriculum.

By investing in better vocational education, Ropah Fashion is preparing young people for careers in fashion while contributing to a stronger textile sector in Ghana.

In Western Kenya, Moo & More Dairy Farm combines dairy farming with training and local impact.

The female-owned farm, led by Susan Njuguna, works with around 25 smallholder farmers, creates local jobs and regularly welcomes students for practical training.

In collaboration with PUM expert Wytze Heidema, the team worked on better feeding, cow comfort and herd management. The project also brought together neighbouring farmers, students and local organisations to share knowledge and improve dairy farming in the region.

Moo & More now wants to grow further as a practical training centre where farmers and students can learn by doing.

For garment manufacturer SH CONFECTION in Monastir, strong financial insight is just as important as quality production. In collaboration with PUM expert Willem de Mol, the woman-led company transformed scattered financial data into practical management tools that support better decision-making and long-term resilience.

The project strengthened financial planning, improved cost awareness and created a clear roadmap for future growth. As a result, SH Confection is better positioned to safeguard more than 70 jobs, most of them held by women, while reinforcing its role in Tunisia's textile sector.

At Phú Nông Buôn Đôn Cooperative in Vietnam, PUM expert Harry Jonker MA worked alongside Director Trần Văn Toàn and the cooperative's management team to turn a strong vision into a practical strategic business plan for sustainable growth.

Together, they discovered that the cooperative's greatest asset isn't just its agricultural products, it's the authentic experiences that connect visitors with local people, culture and nature. As Harry Jonker puts it: "The biggest opportunity wasn't to create something new, but to unlock the value that was already there."

By building on its unique strengths, the cooperative now has a clear roadmap to create greater value for its members, visitors and the wider community.
