Understanding the people arriving in a new community begins with understanding where they come from. Last week, IOM Norway’s Country Information Seminar (CIS) brought together participants from municipalities across Øvre Romerike in Ullensaker, offering them an opportunity to explore South Sudan beyond the headlines, with insights into its culture, traditions, religious landscape and social context.

In collaboration with Integrerings- og mangfoldsdirektoratet - IMDi, IOM offers free country information seminars, both online and in person, for municipalities hosting resettled refugees. The seminars offer relevant information on the countries of origin and cultural backgrounds of newly arrived refugees, helping municipal staff better understand their experiences and support their integration into local communities.

Municipalities interested in hosting an in-person seminar are welcome to contact IOM Norway. The next virtual seminars will take place in September.

Migrants, displaced people and communities affected by crisis rely on humanitarian workers for safety and life-saving support.

In 2025, IOM assisted 17.8 million people affected by crises and displacement across 170 countries and territories.

Protecting humanitarian workers means protecting the people they serve.

What does preparation for a new life in look like for refugee families? Last week in Ankara, IOM Norway delivered a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) for refugees preparing for resettlement in Norway in 2026.

A key highlight of this year's PDO was the continued use of our new activity-based curriculum for children aged 5–10, building on the success of last year’s pilot. Through age-appropriate learning, practical information, and interactive activities, children and their families gained valuable knowledge about life in Norway and the opportunities and challenges ahead. The curriculum for children was delivered alongside the regular PDO sessions for adults and youth, further expanding age-appropriate preparation activities within the Norwegian Cultural Orientation Programme (NORCO).

This orientation was delivered in collaboration with IOM Türkiye, with support from Integrerings- og mangfoldsdirektoratet - IMDi, and contributions from dedicated consultants. We wish all participants every success as they begin their resettlement journey in 🇳🇴 Norway.
