Happy Chokor Düchen to all
(Dukha)
(Samudaya)
(Nirodha)
(Magga)
What is Chokor Duechen?
It marks the day Buddha gave his first teaching ,the Four Noble Truths, to his first five disciples at Sarnath, India.
This "turned the Wheel of Dharma"
for the first time. The main celebration is 1 day on the 4th day of 6th lunar month but the sacred lasts for 4 days .
The Four Noble Truths (Buddha's first teaching):
1. The Truth of Suffering (Dukkha)
- Life involves suffering, dissatisfaction, and impermanence. Birth, aging, sickness, death, and even pleasant things changing all bring pain.
2. The Truth of the Cause of Suffering (Samudaya)
- Suffering comes from craving, attachment, and ignorance. We suffer because we cling to things that are temporary
3. The Truth of the End of Suffering (Nirodha) — It is possible to end suffering. By letting go of craving and attachment, we can attain peace and liberation (Nirvana).
4. The Truth of the Path (Magga)
- There is a path to end suffering: the Noble Eightfold Path
right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration.
What to do during these 4 days (the holy period):
· Meditate more than usual - even 5–10 minutes extra
· Practice kindness - speak gently, avoid anger
· Offer light - butter lamps or candles symbolize wisdom
· Give generously - donate food, money, or time to those in need
· Read or recite Buddhist teachings or prayers
· Reflect on the Four Noble Truths and your own actions
· Avoid harming any living being
Any good deed done during this period is considered greatly multiplied in merit, so it's a powerful time for spiritual practice.
May these sacred day bring peace , compassion and wisdom to everyone.
