Nepal Dynamic Eco Tours officially recognized as Good Travel Experiences
We are especially proud to share that Nepal Dynamic Eco Tours' activities have officially been validated as Good Travel Experiences (GTEs).
After completing the Activity & Tour Scans, our activities were validated by Good Travel, and we've now received confirmation that the official Good Travel Experience badges can be issued. For us, this is an important recognition, because Good Travel doesn't look at nice words about sustainability, but at how activities are actually organized and carried out.
Two different assessments
1. Our activities – 89/100
The Activity & Tour Scan looked at responsible purchasing, respect for participants and local communities, safety, fair working conditions, equal opportunities for local people, climate impact, waste, water, air and noise pollution, protection of nature and wildlife, respect for local culture, and how we explain responsible tourism to our guests. We scored 5/5 on several components, including responsible purchasing, respect for participants and communities, fair working conditions, equal opportunities, limiting food waste, and informing guests about responsible tourism.
2. Nepal Dynamic Eco Tours as a company – 70%
This Good Travel Scan looked at NDET as a business: our relationships with local suppliers, Fair Trade purchasing, support for local communities, energy, climate adaptation, waste and plastic, water use, biodiversity, labor rights, and our own sustainability guidelines.
With this, we comfortably exceed the 50% benchmark that Good Travel uses as a foundation for further sustainability efforts and certification. It's not surprising that we score lower at the company level than for our activities: our premises are in a rented building, meaning we don't have full control over every aspect of it. structural changes and certain investments aren't always solely our decision.
But that's exactly what makes the assessment valuable. Sustainability isn't about achieving a perfect score, it's about being willing to critically examine yourself and constantly look for ways to improve.
Sustainability from day one
Since our founding in 2012, we've tried to approach tourism differently, paying attention to our own ecological footprint as well as the consequences of the activities we offer.
Animal welfare is a key part of that. We consciously moved away from activities we believe are incompatible with responsible wildlife tourism, including elephant rides.
But sustainability is broader than animal welfare. It's about people, nature, and the future of our destination: fair working conditions, local communities, water and energy, less waste and plastic, climate and biodiversity, respect for culture, and how much pressure a destination and its ecosystems can bear.
Two concrete examples of what we're already doing:
We provide all our guests with free drinking water, so they no longer need to rely on plastic bottles.
We continue to lobby for the introduction of electric jeeps in the park, to further increase the sustainability of our safaris.
A beginning, not an endpoint
A score of 70% means we've laid an important foundation. A score of 89/100 for our activities shows that many of the choices we've made over the years are genuinely reflected in the way we work. This score is also fully in line with our ratings on Tripadvisor and Google Reviews.
But neither score means we're done, quite the opposite. We want to continue on this path, not just for NDET, but for Nepal. Nepal has an incredible wealth of nature, biodiversity, and culture, but is at the same time particularly vulnerable to climate change, floods, landslides, and drought. A tourism sector that uses natural resources more sparingly, supports local communities, and protects nature can contribute to a stronger, more resilient Nepal.
We believe that tourism can be part of the solution, but only if we're willing to look critically at how we travel, do business, and engage with the places we visit.
We hope that more and more Nepalese tourism businesses will be willing to have their own activities and operations critically assessed, and take the same path. Not because everyone needs a badge, but because we believe the future of tourism lies in responsibility, transparency, and continuous improvement.
70% as a company. 89/100 for our activities. Officially validated as Good Travel Experiences.
And now, above all: let's keep going.
For Nature. For People. For Planet.
