Today marks 24 years since a small adventure began.
On 19 July 2002, in Kalanki, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, a tiny night shelter opened its doors to 12 children who survived by collecting plastic, begging, and living on the streets.
None of us imagined where that first step would lead.
Twenty-four years later, CPCS is still standing. Today our work reaches children and young people in Nepal (Kathmandu Valley, Dolakha and Morang), Rwanda, and Burundi, while our sister initiative LiveLoveDream also supports vulnerable communities in Belgium and Ukraine.
Today, across these countries, hundreds of children and young people celebrated the anniversary of their organization—an organization created to stand beside them, protect them, and believe in them.
Over the past 24 years:
Thousands of children, young people and families have received protection, education, rehabilitation, vocational opportunities and hope.
Countless social workers, educators, volunteers and partners have dedicated their hearts to ensuring that every child is treated with dignity.
We have also lost far too many children and young people far too soon. They remain forever part of the CPCS family. They are remembered, they are loved, and they continue to inspire our commitment every single day.
As Janusz Korczak so profoundly reminded us:
"Children are not the people of tomorrow, but people of today."
The world of adults seems increasingly consumed by violence. Across too many regions of our planet, children continue to suffer from war, exploitation, abuse, neglect, trafficking, poverty, forced displacement and injustice.
Wherever these violations occur—regardless of borders, politics, religion or ideology—we condemn them without hesitation.
Every child deserves safety.
Every child deserves protection.
Every child deserves dignity.
Every child deserves a future.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by almost every nation on Earth, reminds us that childhood is not a privilege reserved for the fortunate. It is a fundamental right.
Protecting children is not charity.
It is not optional.
It is a moral duty and a legal obligation.
Today, the CPCS family expresses its deepest gratitude to:
❤️ our staff members,
❤️ the Boards of Directors of our different organisations,
❤️ our volunteers,
❤️ our partners/donors,
❤️ our institutional and local partners,
❤️ and every friend who has walked alongside us during these 24 years.
Without you, none of this would have been possible.
The road ahead remains long. The challenges remain immense. But after 24 years, one conviction has never changed:
As long as children are abandoned, abused or forgotten, we will continue to stand beside them.
We will keep protecting.
We will keep advocating.
We will keep believing.
We will keep fighting.
Because every child matters.
Happy 24th Anniversary, CPCS.
The journey continues.
