The final report has been received from the Workforce and Education Select Committee regarding Katherine Lamont's petition to get equal ACC coverage for volunteer firefighters.

While the response acknowledges the significant contribution of volunteer firefighters and emphasised the importance of ensuring volunteers can access adequate health support, the Committee did not recommend legislative change at this time. We have published the report on our websitge - https://www.ufba.org.nz/news/ACC-Peition-Final-Report-Dec25

This is disappointing, however the Labour Party members’ bill to address this issue remains in the ballot and we will continue to work with government officials to explore further options.

In the new year, and in the lead up to the elections, we will also be engaging with the UFBA Brigade Reps and Brigade Leaders to support them to speak with their local MP.

A massive thanks to Katherine Lamont for all the effort that she has put into leading this petition and thank you to all our members for getting in behind it – the 36,000+ signatures is a testament to the importance of this issue. We will not let the momentum drop!
