After a little bit of negotiation, we were very fortunate to get the use of a crash damaged van for some extra practice. With already having a severe impact on the left front, this was a fantastic opportunity to let some of our newer members have some training with the extrication gear, and try some new ideas that you don’t normally get the opportunity to try.

This type of training is extremely valuable for all involved, and we were certainly grateful for the opportunity.

Just one of the skills you train for being a volunteer fire fighter. Could you volunteer your time to be a fire fighter and be one of the super humans in your community? πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

Ashburton’s annual wheels week has kicked off, and it was great to go along and support the Jo’s Garage Carbs and Coffee classic car display on Sunday morning to fly the flag along with St John ambulance. β˜•οΈ πŸš‘

Over 100 beautiful cars of all descriptions were on display. Their owners all with a coffee in hand. πŸš—

But for us, it was about all about smoke detectors, home fire safety and escape plans. Are you ready for an emergency? 🚨

Unfortunately, sometimes our call outs go into the very early hours of the morning. And when it does, it’s being part of a great team that gets you through those longs nights. πŸ₯±

While the officers make plans to get everyone home, the crew get all the hose and gear packed up and ready for the next one.

If you want to be part of a great team doing great things in the community, get in touch with the Ashbuton Volunteer Fire Brigade. πŸ”₯ πŸš’ πŸ‘

Today members of the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade, family and friends took part in the Cancer Society Ashburton Relay for Life.
The generosity of our families and employers allow us to do our job and events like this are a great opportunity for us to give back to the community we serve and have some fun along the way.
Thanks to everyone that supported us today and also a huge thank you for the support to such a worthy cause.

The sun was shining today as we watched two of our newer members Sama and Kendall receive their new fire fighter helmets after completing their 7 day recruit course. πŸ…

They have spent a hot, hard and challenging week honing their skills and are now ready to jump in the trucks and serve their community when the siren sounds.

Congratulations to you both for the effort you have put into all your training over the last six months and graduating today. We hope you enjoy your time in the brigade and serving the Ashbuton community. πŸ‘πŸš’

This weekend a keen crew from our brigade headed down to Oamaru to compete in the Otago Southland Fire Associations Firefighter Challenge – and what a weekend it was!

The team put their strength, skills, and teamwork to the test across a range of tough events. Plenty of sweat, a few sore muscles and lots of laughs.

We’re proud of the effort and the times set at this event. Next stop Waimate for the Canterbury Provincial Challenge. πŸš’ πŸ§‘β€πŸš’
