Day light is slowly disappearing which means the deer will be roaring around the manawatu. Just a reminder to all the hunters bring deer in, to ring ahead before you bring them in, as fridge space is a push with the roar. If you are wanting small good or mince could you break it down before you bring it in otherwise if you need to bring it in as a carcass and we have room please bring it in skinned

📣 We’re Hiring! – Assistant Butcher at Pohangina Valley Meats

We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Assistant Butcher to join our team in the beautiful Pohangina Valley. This is a casual position (around 3 days a week) with typical hours 9:30am between 5:00pm around 10 to 20 hours a week. Pay is minimum wage.

🔧 What the role involves:
• Assisting with preparation & packing of fresh and frozen meats
• Helping with daily butchery operations
• Customer service support when needed
• Keeping the workspace clean, tidy, and hygienic
• Daily cleaning and sanitation tasks

👍 We’re looking for someone who:
• Has a good work ethic and willingness to learn
• Physically fit and able to handle medium lifting (meat trays, sausages, boxes, etc.)
• Comfortable working with meat and in a butchery environment
• Punctual, honest, and able to work independently
• No experience needed – full training provided!

👤 Who this might suit:
This role suits someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and being part of a friendly team. It may be ideal for someone semi-retired who still likes to stay active. Ideally, you’ll live in or near Ashhurst for convenience.

As we come to the end of the year, it’s time for us to hang our aprons up for 2025. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us your support means everything, and we’re already looking ahead to 2026.

Over the break, I’m looking forward to experimenting with some new sausage flavours and smoked sausages to add to the menu, so watch this space ,there are some exciting new flavours on the way.

We’ll be opening our doors again on the 12th of January, and we can’t wait to see you then.

It’s that time of year again! If you’re wanting your Christmas roast on the table, make sure to get your bookings in early — spaces are filling fast!

🐄 Cows: Last kill date – 8th December

🐑🐖 Sheep & Pigs:Last kill date – 10th December

🦌 Deer: last processing dates -17th of December

We’ll be finishing processing on the 19th of December, and final meat pick-up for the year will be on the 22nd of December.
