Kia ora e te whanau, Duality NZ and Authenticity Aotearoa are hosting an Eid get together as a chance for all of us to connect as a community through food and chats🥘🍴

Link in bio for tickets 🎟

We understand it's been a difficult few months as we witness what is happening in Sri Lanka. With the recent end of the auspicious month of Ramadan, we would love to have you join us for an Eid get together as a chance to come to connect and have a shared meal. ❤️

All are welcome and family-friendly so bring the kids !!

In terms of bringing food, just any finger food plates are welcomed

We'll be beginning the event at 6pm with Isha prayers included, all are welcome to join during the prayer as reflection time.🙏🏼

A workshop will also be included. Within groups of your choosing, you will be invited to share your thoughts and feelings on identity and hopes for current and future generations.

Dress Code: If possible we would love to see everyone in their own traditional garb, no pressure though 🥻

Kia ora e te whanau, Duality is launching a petition on behalf of Kiwi-Lankans and the wider NZ community who want to see the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nanaia Mahuta and the New Zealand government to publicly condemn the actions of the Sri Lankan government, provide humanitarian assistance to the island nation and actively support the 16,000 New Zealanders of Sri Lankan heritage who call Aotearoa home. ❤️ ✊🏾

Duality NZ states that it is paramount for the safety of the people of Sri Lanka that the New Zealand government stands in the global community for democracy, and speaks against repression and brutality upon people in Sri Lanka.

Currently, Sri Lanka is running short on food, medicines, fuel, gas, electricity, paper, and other essential commodities. There are also power cuts which go as long as 15-hours occurring everyday. The crisis has been caused and exacerbated by the corrupt, repressive and undemocratic actions of the ruling Rajapaksha regime which have deepened inequality in Sri Lankan society.

We hope to present the petition to Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Nanaia Mahuta on 14th April 2022 in line with our collective Lankan Tamil and Sinhalese New Year known respectively as Puthandu and Aluth Avurudda. These celebrations appropriately marking new beginnings for our communities.

Kia ora everyone, hope you had an amazing start to 2022! Here are some updates from Duality. 😊 We went on a planning retreat and had a great wananga and planning into our vision for Duality this year. We also volunteered for Kai for Sai, a charity organisation donating food to those in need all across Auckland, 7 days a week. The team can’t wait for you to see what's coming up, stay tuned!❤️

Last Friday's events were devastating, especially for our diverse youth. We have partnered with the awesome team Authenticity Aotearoa to bring you a virtual cuppa to support our youth from Sri Lankan, Muslim, refugee communities who are impacted. If you're finding it tough to process these events, join and share a safe space with us. This session will be jointly facilitated by qualified counsellors of colour and a certified coach.

Date: Saturday 11th September 2021
Time: 3.00pm - 4.30pm

Registration link - https://events.humanitix.com/virtual-cuppa-diverse-and-proud-edition4-duality (Zoom link will be provided on Saturday morning. Late registrations will receive a link at 2pm. If you have any issue, please text Suveen on 0272558717).

For our next virtual cuppa, we have teamed up with Duality NZ to provide a virtual safe space for our Sri Lankan, Muslim, and/or refugee youth who may have been impacted by the events in Auckland last Friday. The space will be facilitated by a qualified counsellor and supported by a certified coach....

Our hearts are with the victims affected by the recent events in New Lynn Mall, and their families. We ask our community to stand in solidarity during this time to make sure we quell any comments or prejudice towards the Sri Lankan Muslim community.

We condemn the actions of the individual and recognise that standing against racism is part of that. We have a responsibility to call out any Islamophobia within our community and protect vulnerable people, while we stand together.

Thank you to everyone who attended our trailblazer event last month in collaboration with ALSA! The wānanga space had 3 very special speakers who provided us with the gift of sharing their stories going through unconventional career pathways.

Anne Perera shared her journey of choosing agriculture and a beautiful poem of how we find our place in Aotearoa through the metaphor example of coming together through threads in a lace.
🌱
Ahi talked of his journey of arts and culture and experiencing racism and tokenism as well as discussions on coming out to his parents which were truly inspiring. 🎬🎭

Vanushi Walters displayed that a path can be paved by connecting and understanding your whakapapa and finding your personal ‘why’. 👨‍👩‍👦

Thank you for the fresh cutlets and tea courtesy of Aunty Chani and Dilmah New Zealand. ☕️

With our event on SLNZ Trailblazers coming up on the 26th of July - we thought it would be a great time to share an article about us that was published a while back by New Zealand's only Sri Lankan Community Newspaper

Hey everyone!

We all just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to come out last week for our Intro event. A massive thank you to everyone who helped organise the event and our two awesome guest speakers and audience who inspired great conversations last week!!

We hope you all gained a better understanding of the work we do and hope to do. Feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions or feedback - we would be happy to hear them all!

Duality is entirely a community led initiative so we welcome every one of you getting involved as possible!

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you’re interested in getting involved in upcoming events, be part of the network or want to provide any feedback/ideas on the future of Duality.

We have so many ideas lined up but we need more help to get the ball rolling 😊
