Big conversations are happening across the disability sector in Aotearoa and this kaupapa is helping ensure disabled voices stay at the centre of them.

Led by , Finding Common Ground is creating space for disabled people, Deaf communities, tāngata whaikaha Māori, whānau, carers, and allies to come together and help shape a Declaration of Disabled People’s Rights for Aotearoa New Zealand.

This is about collective voices, lived experience, and building something that truly reflects our communities.

Spectrum Foundation is honoured to support this kaupapa and the important mahi behind it.

💗 Pink Shirt Day is more than wearing pink.
It’s standing beside disabled children who are too often misunderstood, excluded, or bullied simply for existing differently.

At SPECTROOM, we will always advocate for a world where neurodivergent and disabled tamariki feel safe to stim, communicate differently, move differently, and be fully themselves without shame.

Kindness changes lives. Inclusion saves lives. 💗

Dyspraxia isn’t just one experience.

It can affect speech, movement, and even everyday tasks like eating or getting dressed. For many autistic individuals, these challenges overlap in ways that aren’t always obvious at first glance.

That’s why understanding the different types matters.
Because when we see the full picture, we respond with more patience, support, and care.

Dyspraxia is more common in autism than most people realise.

What might look like clumsiness, messiness, or lack of effort is often a difficulty with how the brain plans and coordinates movement.

From tying shoelaces to writing to simply keeping balance, these everyday tasks can take much more effort than we assume.

When we understand the why, we stop labeling and start supporting.

💙 Awareness isn’t just knowing, it’s choosing to see differently.

A movie experience made to feel safe, not overwhelming.

We’re teaming up with and to host a Sensory Screening of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, designed with our community in mind.

Lower volume. Lights on. Freedom to move, play, and enjoy the film in a way that works for your child, not against them.

There’ll also be a sensory play area and a few giveaways, so families can settle in however they need.

No pressure. No judgement. Just a space where everyone belongs💙

Elopement is a real and often misunderstood behaviour in the autistic community ♾️

It isn’t about disobedience, it’s often a response to sensory sensitivity, curiosity, or a need to escape or seek something specific.

Because it can happen suddenly and without warning, awareness from the wider community is important.

Knowing what to look for, and how to respond, can help prevent dangerous situations and support safer environments for everyone💙

Mental overload isn’t always obvious.

It can look like silence.
It can look like withdrawal.
It can look like “not listening.”

But often, it’s the brain trying to manage
more than it can comfortably process.

For many autistic individuals, especially in busy or noisy environments, this isn’t occasional, it’s constant.
