Henderson Volunteer Fire Brigade has been selected as a recipient of the Z - "Good in the Hood" promotion.

It's simple to support the brigade!

When you fill up at Z Henderson Valley, pop inside to pay, you receive a token, then simply drop into our slot.

If you are in the area, drop in and say ‘hi 👋’ to some of our members. We’ll be there Wednesday evening!🚒

Proceeds will go to purchasing new equipment, needed to help our community in their time of need.

❄️🧊Brrrrr! 🧊❄️

Many parts of the country are feeling the cold, which means there are fires and heaters cranking in lots of households today! 🔥

So, this is a reminder to keep a one metre clearance around your heater or fireplace. Soft furnishings such as blankets, clothes, beds and couches don’t need to be touching a heat source to catch fire, if they are too close, they will burn! ⚠️

Hot tip: If you’re unsure, measure it. This can be done by making sure no soft furnishings are getting warm when near a heat source. Remind yourself how big a metre is because ‘she’ll be right’ won’t cut it 🚒

Recently, we have had a number of incidents where the actions of other road users have put both emergency responders and members of the public at risk while we are responding to incidents or working at an incident. We’ve seen vehicles stop in the middle of the road, drivers go through red lights, and some not pull to the left at all to allow emergency vehicles through 🚨 🚦

If you see emergency vehicles approaching from behind with their lights, sirens and/or horn activated, remain calm, indicate if needed, and pull to the left as soon as it is safe to do so. If you are at a intersection or traffic lights stay where you are, we have already come up with how we are going to get through without creating a hazard ⚠️
Avoid stopping on blind corners, intersections or anywhere that could create another hazard. Come to a stop and allow the emergency vehicles to pass. Remember check it is safe before rejoining the traffic.
Keep a look out as there may be more than one emergency vehicle responding and sometimes we are right behind each other 🚒🚑🚔

At emergency scenes, our firefighters, police officers, ambulance crews and road workers are often working just metres from moving traffic.

Please remember:�🚒 Slow down well before reaching the scene.�🚑 Stay alert and follow any directions from emergency personnel.�🚓 Give responders as much room as possible when passing.�❤️ Be patient, emergency crews are working as fast as possible.

We want to acknowledge our firefighters who respond to these incidents and help safely extract you and your loved ones when the worst happens on our roads. Crews from Henderson and Te Atatu responded to this multi vehicle collision 🚒

Recently across New Zealand there has been a number of fatal or serious injury crashes. We all need to do our bit to help make sure our roads are safe 🧑‍🚒

Some road safety reminders:

Don’t drive under the influence 🚫🍺

Always wear your seatbelt 🚗✅

No distractions while driving, Put the phone away and keep your eyes on the road 👀 📱

Speed matters. The faster you go, the bigger the mess. Better to arrive late than not arrive at all!Slow down and get home safely. ⚠️💥
