Mālō le soifua. Happy Samoan Language Week!

Inspired by Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa, tamariki at Art Club created siapo-inspired patterns using chalk for outlines, then coloured them in with crayons before brushing dye over the top. As the chalk dissolved, the designs revealed beautiful layered effects.

We can’t wait to see everyone next week!

Redhill Primary School Students | Artbox Exhibition
13 May - 20 June 2026

Our Artbox window is currently filled with artwork created by students from Redhill Primary School.

This exhibition celebrates the creativity and imagination of local young artists, while giving them the opportunity to experience exhibiting their work in a public space. We were thrilled to welcome some of the students to the gallery to help install the exhibition and learn more about presenting artwork for display.

Pop by and take a look at the wonderful work these young creatives have shared with our community.

We had an amazing turnout at our bookmaking workshop last Saturday.

Participants explored simple, creative ways to make their own handmade books using accessible tools and techniques. The artists brought in a range of handmade books as examples, helping demonstrate different ways books can be made and bound. It was a hands-on session full of learning, experimentation, and great conversation around books in all their forms.

By the end of the session, everyone had created and taken home their own handmade book.

Ngā mihi to everyone who joined us and brought such curiosity and creativity into the space.

Yesterday at Art Club, tamariki experimented with the crayon resist technique, drawing with crayons and oil pastels before painting watercolours over top.

It was so fun seeing the colourful drawings appear through the paint as the water-resistant materials created different patterns and effects. We can’t wait to see everyone next week!

The Papakura Art Gallery would like to extend an invitation to our upcoming book-making workshop with our current exhibiting artists, Joanna Cook and Steve Lovett.

Join us for a hands-on bookmaking workshop exploring simple, creative ways to make your own artist books and handmade publications. Participants will be introduced to a range of accessible book structures, including hidden/origami books, glued books, and saddle-stitched or stapled books.

This workshop is ideal for artists, teachers, students, writers, makers, and anyone interested in creative publishing, zines, storytelling, or paper-based practice. You will learn practical techniques that can be adapted for classrooms, community projects, personal art practice, or small-scale publications.

Bring your curiosity and a willingness to fold, cut, glue, stitch, staple, and experiment.

This workshop is suitable for those 12 and over. Spaces are limited, so please RSVP by DM or emailing the gallery ([email protected])
