Dear residents of Otara,
I am Nevaeh Tawhi-Marsters, an 18-year-old candidate born and raised in Otara where I still reside, 2022 Dept Head Girl from TC running for the Otara-Papatoetoe local board. I am writing to share with you why it is important to elect a youth representative to the local board and why I believe I am the right choice.
Our community is rich with youthful energy, talent, and innovative ideas. By electing a youth representative to the local board, we can ensure that the voices and perspectives of young people are heard, valued, and incorporated into the decision-making processes that shape our community's future.
As a young candidate, I understand the unique challenges that our generation faces. I am passionate about addressing these issues head-on and working towards practical solutions that benefit all residents, regardless of age. I am committed to creating opportunities for youth in areas such as education, employment, and recreation.
Having grown up in Otara where I spent all my school years and where I service in the community daily, I have experienced firsthand the potential and resilience of our community. I am dedicated to empowering young people who are my peers and fostering an environment that allows them us all to thrive. I will advocate for initiatives that provide equal access to quality education, mentorship programs, and skills training, ensuring that our youth are well-prepared for a successful future.
Furthermore, I recognize the importance of safe and inclusive community spaces where young people can express themselves, engage in positive activities, and build strong social connections. I will work tirelessly to enhance the availability and quality of these spaces, collaborating with local organizations and authorities to create environments that foster growth, well-being, and a sense of belonging for all.
By voting for a youth representative like me, you are sending a powerful message: our community believes in the potential of young people and is committed to their inclusion and empowerment. Together, we can shape an Otara that thrives, embraces diversity, and provides opportunities for every individual to succeed.
I humbly ask for your vote in the current local board by-elections. Voting is open now and closes at the end of this month where the new board member elected straight after. Together, let us build a brighter future for all residents, with the energy, vision, and perspective that only a youth representative can bring.
