For Waiheke local Amelia Lawley, mountain biking is about more than getting out on the trails. It’s helped her stay active, support her mental wellbeing and connect with people through a shared love of the outdoors.

The Waiheke Local Board has supported the development and maintenance of the mountain bike tracks at Onetangi Sports Park, helping provide a place for the community to ride and get involved.

Waiheke Radio candidates debate

A community gathering is being held at the Waiheke Sustainability Centre ahead of the Waiheke Radio candidates debate for the Auckland Central electorate.

The gathering runs from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, with the debate starting at 7pm at Artworks Theatre.

Date: Monday 19 October
Gathering: 5.30pm to 6.30pm
Location: Sustainability Centre, 1A Mako Street, Oneroa

The debate will also be broadcast on Waiheke Radio, 88.3 and 107.4 FM, and streamed at https://www.waihekeradio.org.nz/.

Bookings are now open for Waiheke's inorganic collection service.

The service gives residents another option for responsibly disposing of unwanted household items, while helping to keep reusable and recyclable materials out of landfill.

Before booking a collection, consider whether items could be repaired, donated, reused or passed on to someone else. Every item given a second life helps reduce waste and supports a more sustainable Waiheke.

Auckland Council is proposing to replace the existing Rakino Community Hall, which was significantly damaged by recent storms and is currently closed.

We’re seeking feedback on three possible locations for the new hall, as well as the proposed design and the facilities the community needs.

From 1 October, Auckland Council is taking responsibility for more of Auckland’s transport network, including local roads, parking, footpaths, bus lanes, street lighting and speed limits.

For most Aucklanders, day-to-day services will continue as usual. Buses, trains and ferries will still be operated by Auckland Transport, and state highways and motorways remain the responsibility of NZTA.

The changes also mean transport decisions are being brought closer to communities, with local boards playing a bigger role in neighbourhood-level transport decisions.
