The NZPFU is calling for an independent inquiry into FENZ to examine why FENZ has failed to manage funding to ensure that it has the capacity and capability for reliable emergency response to the New Zealand public, now and in the future.

There needs to be independent scrutiny of FENZโ€™s management of its funding to ascertain whether it has been appropriately focused on the necessary critical areas of resourcing to provide emergency response, protect the public and meet its obligations under the Fire and Emergency Act 2017.

We believe there have been serious failures in the management and governance of FENZ with a lack of accountability for failed projects that have wasted tens of millions of dollars.

We believe that there is a serious lack of transparency in decisions and the actual state of affairs. This was reflected in FENZ providing a myriad of responses to questions of Members of Parliament in the House and through a select committee. FENZ has provided inaccurate or misleading information and in doing so has demonstrated the need for a full, independent inquiry.

The NZPFU has released a petition. We respectfully ask the public to support our call for a public independent inquiry.

The petition can be accessed here: www.direemergency.nz/help

THE ULTIMATE IRONY ๐Ÿšจ Auckland Central firefighters protesting today right outside the empty bay where the cityโ€™s only Rescue Tender should be.

Auckland Central lost its critical rescue appliance to a breakdown yesterday. It was towed away before todayโ€™s strike even began, was missing throughout the strike, and was still unavailable this afternoon.

A powerful symbol of exactly why our frontline is standing up for change. We need safe, reliable trucks to protect our communities. โœŠ๐Ÿš’

DAY 2: AUCKLAND CITY LEFT EXPOSED ๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿ“ธ

Auckland City entered its second day with no Rescue Tenderโ€”an appliance based at the country's busiest station that's meant to be carrying the Jaws of Life. New photos show the broken truck finally being towed out of the bay.

Because FENZ has no spare rescue trucks left, a standard, non-rescue truck is filling the gap. This means the Auckland Central, Parnell, Ponsonby, Herne Bay, Mt Eden, Newmarket, Epsom, and Onehunga communitiesโ€”including the Auckland Harbour Bridge, Spaghetti Junction, and Waterview Tunnelโ€”are all without immediate access to vital rescue equipment, chemical suits, and gas detection gear.

These communities must wait for backup from Avondale, Mt Wellington, or Takapuna. This leadership failure is unacceptable.
