Introducing Recognise, Respond, Support: Practical workplace responses to stalking!

Stalking became a crime in New Zealand two months ago, and today we’re launching a guide in partnership with Shine and Human Resources New Zealand to equip workplaces with practical guidance and tools to support employees experiencing stalking 📖

Work can be a place of safety, but it can also be used by perpetrators to contact, monitor, follow and approach victim-survivors.

Respond, Recognise, Support helps employers prepare for and respond when staff experience stalking, inside or outside work. The guide takes an employee-led approach.

💥 Talk about feeling the burn for a good cause!

A huge thank you to the team at Westpac NZ who took part in a Les Mills SHAPES class to support Shine. Combining Pilates, barre and power yoga, SHAPES is a serious workout, and our Westpac supporters gave it their all.

Beyond the shaking legs and strengthening cores, this event helped 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 for Shine’s frontline services, supporting women, children and families experiencing domestic violence.

As part of Shine’s annual Light It Orange Appeal, this powerful display represents hope for those experiencing family violence and signals the start of a month dedicated to fundraising and awareness.

In Aotearoa, 55% of women experience family violence in their lifetime, a reminder of just how important this work is.

This July, you can help us make a difference. 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱; every action matters.

⚖️ 𝐀 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐚.

Today, New Zealand's new standalone stalking law officially comes into force. This marks a massive shift in how repeated, coercive patterns of behaviour, like tracking, unwanted contact, and online harassment are recognised and treated under the law.

Shine, alongside the Auckland Coalition for the Safety of Women and Children, fought hard alongside more than 22,500 of you who signed the petition to make this a reality. This law means earlier intervention becomes possible before behaviour escalates into more serious violence.

Long-term Shine Round the Bays supporters, Cordis Auckland out-performed their target and raised more than $1,500 to help families impacted by domestic violence.

Special shout out to 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬 – our top fundraiser again – for raising an amazing $814, and to 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚 who raised $439! We are so grateful for your drive and generosity.

On 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we are shining a light on coercive control a common and devastating form of family violence that violates the human rights of women all over the world.

Coercive control isn't always physical; it is a pattern of behaviour used to take away a person's freedom and voice. By educating ourselves and our communities, we can eliminate family violence and create a safer world .
