It was a pleasure to host Minister Costello at our Napier headquarters today. We were proud to showcase the work our crews carry out every day. From our aircraft and clinical capabilities to the dedicated people behind each mission, it was a great opportunity to highlight how air ambulance services support patients and communities when every moment counts.

This week we hosted the BETA Technologies ALIA electric aircraft at our headquarters for a showcase event, where we were pleased to welcome James Meager MP, Katie Nimon and Catherine MacGowan to see the aircraft in action during a series of demonstration flights from our base ✈️⚡

NZAAS placed a deposit-backed order for the ALIA in 2024, recognising the potential these aircraft bring to future aeromedical missions - from regional patient transfers to direct hospital-to-hospital transport.

Completing 4,500+ aeromedical missions every year, we’re always exploring new technology that can improve access to specialist care for patients across Aotearoa.

Great to be on the ground in Honiara, supporting patients who need urgent, specialised care.
At NZAAS, our role is simple but critical: get people the care they need, when and where they need it - regardless of borders. Operations like this reinforce the importance of strong Pacific partnerships, trusted local relationships, and dependable logistics in challenging environments.

Merry Christmas from NZAAS.
At this time of year, we want to take a moment to thank our amazing team that make it all possible.

We operate 24/7/365 supporting patients across New Zealand, the Pacific, and beyond, ensuring access to critical aeromedical care wherever it is needed. That commitment continues through the Christmas period.
Over Christmas and New Year, many of our people will continue to be on duty, working to ensure patients continue to receive timely, high-quality care, including in remote regions and the Pacific Islands where access can be particularly challenging.

To our pilots, clinicians, engineers, coordinators, and partners - thank you for the professionalism, care, and teamwork you bring to the service every day, often behind the scenes. We also want to acknowledge and thank your families for the support and sacrifices they make, especially at this time of year, to enable this work to continue.

From everyone at NZAAS, we wish you and your families a safe and restful Christmas and a healthy New Year.

Meet Gayle
✈ Flight Nurse
📍New Plymouth

Originally from South Africa, Gayle made the move to New Zealand in 2000 and now calls New Plymouth home. She’s a proud mum to two daughters.

Beginning her nursing journey began in 2004 on a medical ward, before moving into ICU. After some time in Auckland working in Cardiology/CCU with Waitematā, she returned to New Plymouth where she now works in ICU.

Since joining the team earlier this year, she’s loved every moment of it! Outside of work, you’ll find her soaking up the outdoors - whether it’s ocean dips, bush walks, or the occasional jog. She’s also a fan of good music, catching up with friends over a drink, and loves a bit of overseas travel - most recently returning from Bali!
