This afternoon I announced that 142,000 New Zealanders have been helped by the Government’s Healthy Homes Initiative.

Poor, cold, damp houses can make people sick. Improving housing conditions means people are healthier and more likely to stay in school or in work, while also relieving pressure on our health system. Our Healthy Homes Initiative has seen:

🏘 Hospitalisations reduce by 19.8%
🏠 School attendance increase by 3%
🏡 Employment increase by 4%
🏘 100,000 interventions have been delivered, including insulation, heaters, curtains and repairs.

The nationwide rollout is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

According to the three-year evaluation report, more than 31,000 children, pregnant people and 111,000 of their family members are warmer and healthier thanks to the Healthy Homes Initiative.
